2013 TSUN Football News

@Jaxbuck Which way are you laying money this time?

As always I will engage in some emotional arbitrage and put a sprinkle on the money line for scUM (so I get cash to console me in the event of the unthinkable).

If I were looking at this game unemotionally I would have to give serious consideration to a larger than normal bet on OSU -12. I honestly don't see scUM having more than a 40-45% chance of keeping it inside of 2 TD's.

EDIT

P.S. Line is already OSU -14 at most off shore places.

mgoblog has arrived at the acceptance stage. Again.

3-9 was awful but had an element of fun in it in the same way Naked and Afraid does: holding my frozen hands to the pretzel machine and feeling guilty when I returned to the stands to find that I'd tried to heat myself so long I'd missed Michigan's first three-and-out of the second half. This is worse, six years on. It's lost its novelty, and now staring at the Armageddon that is the last week of the season is just Promethean fate. I can't imagine accidentally missing any part of this football season and thinking anything other than "stroke of luck, that." I don't see a way in which Michigan gets on Ohio State's level in the near future, and even plotting out Michigan State's level is pretty murky.

I also don't see a FIRE THIS TURDFACE solution. This is the culmination of a dozen different things, all richly deserved by everyone except the fanbase, and my belief is that the best course of action is to persist with this low-attrition, good-dude, quality-talent recruiting and hope that the blithering recedes as things go along. I hate this, because I know that any realignment towards an offense that I actually like will be met with a reaction equivalent to George Wallace hearing that they're integrating the schools, and that the burden of Michigan's past hangs over them in a way that Ohio State was perfectly happy to throw over before Urban Meyer even showed up. I also feel that Michigan will insist that it's anyone's fault but their own, and that the best we can hope for is 1997: an outlier.

This is massively enervating. We're staring down a 20-year period in which Michigan beats Ohio State like 4 or 5 times. Memories of when Michigan could claim equality are as fresh as Jim Delany's letter about how the SEC was a bunch of stupid poopy pants, and as relevant. This feels like a new order, right now. Inescapable.

Urban Meyer is on his way with a bus full of plungers and no lube.

Honestly, the only prayer (that also has some grounding in reality) they have is for Braxton to have two or three unforced fumbles and throw a couple of picks. Unless that happens, I don't know anyone that sees any way Michigan can possibly win this game.

Wouldn't you be too if you had to watch that train wreck?

This got me thinking, when was OSU ever on the seat of it's ass bad like this?

In my lifetime;

1987-1992 were 6 years of OSU having below top 25 talent and was by far the worst shape I've ever seen the program in talent-wise during my 40+ years. Transition from Earl to Coop. 1993-1998 Cooper years were disappointing on The Game and Bowl game front but OSU had elite talent and was a legit national power.

1999-2001 had talent but Coop on the way out and JT on the way in had some very mixed results.

2011 transition again, JT to Urban.

TSUN fans: Why sit out in the cold for a game that you won't enjoy? Sell your tickets to folks wearing scarlet. Do it for the children.
There are actually UM posters on their board encouraging the sale of tix to OSU fans to send a message to Brandon. I have never seen a fan base so disillusioned. It is borderline not-fun.

Nah - it's fun.

Damn straight it's fun. I want the O-H-I-O cheer to be so loud that the TSUN faithful will hear it in their nightmares for the next 365 nights.

I can't remember anything in my lifetime as bleak as it is for them, OSU-wise, anyway. I'd imagine it's similar to being a browns fan...you just get beaten to the point of submission. Sometime during 2009, I stopped really giving a shit anymore as a browns fan. I just cannot bring myself to give one solitary fuck until I see concrete signs of sustained improvement. OSU-wise, I remember the Liberty Bowl against Air Force probably being the all-time low. But I as only 13 at the time, so my fandom wasn't as intense.

Look back on really the last 13 years for them...very few "high points" and some incredible lows. Really, that Appalachian State game was the start of an incredible plummet. Take away 2011 (against a popcorn-fart schedule and the worst OSU team in a quarter century), and they've had very little to be happy about. Hell, even their moment of "great triumph" beating tOSU in 2011 was short lived when OSU announced the hiring of Urban Meyer immediately following it. tOSU's transition lasted exactly one year, then ripped of 23 wins straight and counting. scUM has been rebuilding since 2007, and they're looking at potentially another reboot after next year...and there ain't no Jim Harbaugh or Urban Meyer out there to offer a quick turnaround. In fact, given the absolute debacle their last two coaching searches have been, they should be trembling at the thought...

The only times it was ever in the zip code of this bleak for OSU in my mind was Air Force 1990. It was clear then that OSU had the wrong guy for a coach but couldn't get rid of him because of the way they butchered the Earl Bruce firing.

But back to the spirit of this week, they are so pumpkined it's not even funny.

2 bad hires in a row while OSU is fine tuning the machine for greater and greater performance under Urban Meyer. Add in a stable, competent staff at MSU for fun while you, as the scUM AD, can't fire Hoke yet.

If OSU delivers the kill shot on Saturday things will get worse up north before they get better.

I should've said "has gone so emo."

I used to love reading that blog. I think now that the reality of their mediocrity, and the fact that nothing points to it changing any time soon, has made it into a festering ground for a masochistic circle jerk of feelings and despair and random Fielding Yost quotes.
