2013 Sugar Bowl: Louisville +13.5 vs Florida (ov/un 45.5)

Just read that Florida lost this game because they didn't want to be there after getting fucked over by the lack of a playoff. This is, also, the same reason Alabama lost to Utah and presumably why SEC teams lose bowl games in general. They would've beaten the shit out of Louisville if the Sugar Bowl was "more in line with their goals."

This is the kind of thing that happens when your region's major export is fried butter.

Best laugh I've had in a while..

Interviewer: "What was responsible for this win?"

Charlie Strong: "We heard Herbstreit say earlier today it would be a 15 point margin of win but will feel like a 30 point beatdown. So this win is for you Kirk. Thanks."

Awesome.

Unfortunately, it wasn't Herbie that is credited with the quote, it's David Pollack:

Straight Pimp Shit from Chizzzarlie Strong

What they said:
  • Louisville coach Charlie Strong, to ESPN following the game: "[ESPN analyst David] Pollack got us fired up earlier today, when he said it was going to be a 15-point game in their favor and it was gonna feel like a 30-point game. And then he said our defense hasn't played well all year. So this is for him."

Charlie Strong is my new second favorite head coach. Nothing like calling out cliche-dropping dullards on national TV.

RE: Louisvillle seems to think we will roll over in the Sugar

Of course the head coach cares. However, without a playoff system, except for the BCS NC, all these bowl games are exhibitions.

The bottom line is that Louisville in no way shape or form got the Gators A game.

I am a football-first Card fan and don't think we beat you guys without a minor miracle. I can't really conjure a situation in which we do win given the nature of the lines in football. If you see optimism on our behalf, it is because this is our second BCS Bowl (beat Wake in OB lol). We did pop Alabama in the Fiesta, but that was decades ago. Not to be perverse, but it is an honor just to talk football with you guys for a few weeks until the game. I would argue that Louisville Football is no anomaly and on the upswing, so it wouldn't be totally unreasonable to catch us again with a more talented and experienced roster. But what do you expect from our fans? We don't play SEC or Pac-10 football, so of course we think we can knock you off because or level of football knowledge is inherently low. Hopefully we can see some class on both sides, and while you may yawn a few times, I would hope that you can at least ascertain why we are so excited at this point. It is a credit to your program, and any stupid threads on our board bashing your attendance or the like should be ignored since I probably wouldn't be excited to play us either as a Gator fan. Just a little insight, and keep the UK streak alive that is now at a quarter of a decade.

You have one of the best coaches in all of college football...your program IS on the rise. Most of us have the utmost respect for Charlie Strong. I hope that one day in the far future(Muschamp here for 10-15 yrs I HOPE!) that he returns here. And your team DOES have a good chance tonite to win the game. Not if we play our best..but if we come in flat...or dont take this game serious...who knows. That why they play the game.

They had the excuse generator already warmed up, just in case.

Let's make one thing clear. Though Louisville's 33-23 win was the biggest upset -- from a point-spread perspective -- in the history of the BCS, it had nothing to do with luck.

 I'm pretty sure Boise or Utah had bigger point spreads... but biggest upset to use that with the qualifier ( which isn't there on the front page) is about what I'd expect from a member of the media.

Actually, you're not right. Last night's spread was 12.5. Boise was a 7.5 underdog against Oklahoma, and Utah was a 10 point underdog against Alabama.

I gotta say...I met Charlie Strong in '97 at a Notre Dame football camp when he was the D-Line coach. I only made it to 3 or 4 football camps in high school, but this guy was my favorite. He was tough, but you respected him and wanted to practice hard. He stressed fundamentals and came off intense, more so than other coaches I met. Coincidentally Urban was on the staff at the time too, but I never got to meet him as he was WR coach I think. I can't see Charlie sticking around Louisville forever, I think he's destined for a bigger position after next season.
