Any defense with speed and a degree of discipline will shut down Oregon. Oregon was supposed to run roughshod all over us in the 2010 Rose Bowl, and we held them to 17 points and 260 yards of total offense.

There was an article over in the Heacock thread that Heacock shut them down by having unususal look on defense that caused Oregon's blockers to be confused.

Clemson and Taj Boyd look very beatable against a team (NC State) that lost to SACRAMENTO, yet they stay ahead of us in the AP Poll. I know the AP Poll doesn't mean much anymore, but its a respect thing at this point. Ohio State did stay at #3 in the Coaches Poll though.

Since I don't respect any one of the mediots in the sports media, I don't expect my teams will either and I don't get upset about it.

If Ohio State wins out, things will take care of themselves.

One can only hope. Because were going to have issues if Bama, Clemson, Oregon/Stanford, and Ohio State all go unbeaten. Will it happen? No. COULD it? Yes.

Looking at us sitting at #4 in the polls heading into week 5 I can see the possibility of a major controversy in the final year of the BCS. This just seems like the kind of year that one of two different scenarios could play out:

1. 3+ undefeated teams from BCS conferences, someone left out like Auburn was in 2004/2005
2. A one loss SEC or PAC 12 team doesn't play in the NC game because 2 undefeated teams from BCS conferences are matched up. If this causes the SEC to miss out they will freak at the thought of not defending their 7 straight championships. Or a one loss PAC 12 team plays tOSU and the SEC complains that their one loss team is better than either teams in the NC game. If we are undefeated the gripe won't be directed at us as much as a controversy of which one loss team is better, coming from the PAC 12 or SEC.

From what I have seen Oregon should be ranked #1. Looking at their stats and margin of victory in each game is impressive so far. Alabama would be #2 on my list followed by Clemson #3 and tOSU #4. I think we are a better team than Clemson but with the early win over Georgia I can't pitch a compelling argument to prove it. Alabama looks more vulnerable than past years but they did beat TAMU at their own game.

Couple of thoughts:

We clearly need to run the table with convincing wins over the rest of our opponents. Each week the B1G looks worse when we need it to be improving. We can't control that. Only thing we can control is our games.

Oregon to me is in a very good spot to either lose a game or strengthen their claim on #1 if they don't. Matchups against #16 UW, #13 UCLA and #5 Stanford has them controlling their destiny more than any other team IMO. If they go undefeated I'm not sure anyone can say anything about them being left out. Even with 1 loss they will be in the discussion.

FSU and Clemson both have a chance to run the table and are sitting at #3 and #8 respectively but something tells me neither are a major concern but the possibility of Clemson running the table would certainly pose a problem with the ACC being better IMO than the B1G and the early win of GA trumps our OOC schedule.

There are controversies every year but for some reason, in this last year of the BCS system something tells me it will be a big one. More than years past, sitting at week 5 I see a tighter bunch of quality teams at the top. Some of them will loose but not all of them. I haven't even mentioned Louisville because I think their chances of playing in the NC game are about .008%. Yes, it's early but they would need to have a perfect storm of upsets in the upper ranks for that to happen so let's not waste time with that one. Even a one loss SEC or PAC 12 team gets in over a perfect Louisville and I would call that a minor controversy.

Before the season started I heard many people say that if we run the table we will not be left out of the NC game because of our #2 preseason rankings. I'm not convinced of that. Based on current rankings, an undefeated tOSU is only vulnerable to 2 of the following playing out: a perfect Clemson, PAC team or SEC team. My prediction at this point is we play Oregon with a confidence rating of about 40%. My prediction for serious controversy though this year is about 95%.
