2013 Preseason and regular polls

I seriously doubt that.
Completely different topic of the tv deals having been brokered.

I don't. And the bowls again really don't care - they've been paid for the contract. You can't dismiss the fundamental changes that are going to happen next season with how things will be selected this season.

This stuff follows the path of least resistance if it can. to me that means UCF to the Orange.

They may as well be.

Anyway, we'll see how it plays out on Saturday.

UCF is a BCS win away or two from being a monster (and maybe the SEC's 17th or 18th team).

Sorry, but this is just getting ignorant.
Nobody is going to have negotiated the fee for ad space before they even know the games. And the idea that "screwit we have playoffs next year, ratings don't matter!" is plain ridiculous.

If you think the bowls are deep thinkers you're the one who is ignorant.

We'll just see who's right or wrong - Hell if I'm totally off I'll self-ban after the Buckeyes Bowl game until next season.

UCF isn't C-USA anymore.

Oh they are, it's just not called that now.

UCF gets an auto bid because they are in the AAC or whatever.
...and that bid came into existence before the Big East lost every team with any value. That pre-apocalypse Big East also being the conference the Orange bowl divested itself of due to years of bad matchups. The Orange wants nothing to do with Big East (nee AAC) teams.

The Orange will be Bama and UCF - UCF has to get in. If they didn't, it probably would be Clemson. In the end though, I think the Orange ends up taking them. Not because they want too, but because the other options available aren't good

See that suggests you don't understand the selection order. The Orange bowl is not going to be forced to take UCF. It is the only bowl with options to pick a good matchup. It's not going to decide on a team that no one cares about.

I don't think Clemson will make it and history says if a team isn't in a conference championship game and loses their last game badly (and Clemson did) the BCS bowls will shy away from them (call it the Oklahoma effect).

UCF makes geographic sense

Local teams are only preferable when they have an actual following. UCF doesn't.

If SDSU only had a single loss (to Ohio State) and won the MWC championship it would be ludicrous to suggest that the Rose Bowl would take them because they're local (if Sparty is not eligible).

and you know the Orange bit the bullet with NIU last year -

Exactly. That's because they had the last pick and had no other option. They're not going to screw themselves when they have the first selection.

If Ohio State somehow loses, they'll end up in the Sugar as well over Baylor/UCF.

So the Orange would select UCF over Ohio State? That is exactly what that would entail.

The Fiesta gets the Big 12 champ (Okie State if they win, Texas if Okie State loses and they win/Baylor if Baylor wins and Okie State loses) and I think has last picks, so NIU will go here.

Yes NIU will most likely be the last team chosen, just like UCF is likely the second to last.

UCF is a BCS win away or two from being a monster (and maybe the SEC's 17th or 18th team).

Oh for fuck's sake.

They aren't sending Pitt or Syracuse or whoever - this time it is a team from the state. That does matter with the 2nd pick for the bowl game.

I understand it fine. I also understand that logic doesn't necessarily apply to this process. And I never said they would be forced and I didn't imply it. I think the Orange Bowl will pick them because they want too. They won't pick them before Bama and I never said they would. Alabama to the Orange is as much of a lock as Sparty to the Rose.

SDSU doesn't have an auto-bid, nor is the school really comparable to UCF. UCF is a much bigger school. Not only that, but the Rose Bowl is the one bowl above all that likes its traditional match-up if at all possible. The rest of them aren't nearly as stubborn.

Oh for fuck's sake.

You're right - they're the 11th or 12th team in the Big 12 when they re-expand as I don't think Florida will like having another SEC school that close (and neither will UGA). A school that size in Florida won't be ignored forever.

Oh for fuck's sake.

this, THIS, and THIS AGAIN

Similar to when a bowl (I think orange) selected ttun/vatech a few years ago. Neither deserved it, but they went with the bowl eligible teams that had the biggest names and would make the most cash.
