This has been on my mind for a while, but this is the first time I'm posting it. I know that the our OL has been the heart and soul of our team according to our coach. However, I can't help but admire the 'Bama OL. Their unit was totally DOMINANT! Especially in the second half. When the OL plays as well as they did, dominating the run with the Kowandjo (sp) brothers, they are bound to win. What was apparent was how their OL took over the game in the first 'Bama drive of the 2nd half, which resulted in a TD. Nothing LSU could do could stop them. Whether it was on the right side or towards the left, didn't matter. This wasn't a one-time occurrence. I went back and watched the 2009 SEC CCG in the off season. 'Bama's OL again dominated, especially in the second half. And there was a clock killing 7-minute drive to end the ball game. Charlie Strong did everything he could to no avail. He dialed up blitzes, brought a variety of pressures, nothing worked. There was impeccable playcalling from the OC, and their QB was extremely adept at passing where the blitz was coming from. I saw shades of that yesterday as well.
If we eventually end up playing 'Bama for the NCG this year, I am very concerned whether we can keep their OL from taking over the game, especially in the 2nd half. Still a lot of football to go, but I am scared. Mario Cristobal is real good.
The worst part is the depth at LB. If our DL is unable to get pressure on the 'Bama OL, we have to start blitzing. Given our lack of depth at LB, and the recruiting misses, I feel 'Bama is going to test the MLB repeatedly. I feel that Zach Boren was a better LB than Curtis Grant is right now. He still gets confused during pass plays. Their OL is part of the reason why 'Bama is #1 in the nation, and is going to be favored in all matchups this year.
I would like to hear from someone with more knowledge on this topic. Does our DL match up well with 'Bama's OL? How does our OL compare with their's?
