2013-2014 B1G Men's Basketball

Is anyone on the hot seat in the B1G currently? I would think Groce and Crean have to be the best two candidates to get canned.

Crean has recruits coming and I think the Illinois admins might have to worry about Tim Beckman and football more than John Groce in his second season.

The closest would be Matt Painter, but that's taking hot seat very loosely since he has about five years left on his contract extension.

Unless there's a scandal, I think everyone is safe (Pat Chambers has the least leverage).

Crean's buyout is too much right now. He isn't going anywhere yet. But if they disappoint again next year, his seat will start getting warm. Groce is only in his 2nd year, and he inherited something of a dumpster fire. He should at least get another couple of seasons.

I don't think anyone gets fired this year. No way Groce is on the hot seat, it's only his second year and it was next to impossible for him to right the ship for this season considering they were due to lose their big guns from last year in Paul and Richardson and they were going to struggle to replace them regardless. Crean led his team to an outright B1G championship last season, even the biggest "what have you done for me lately" fans would realize that one bad year isn't enough to fire a coach over when he had the program at a good level just a year ago - yeah, he had some bad teams his first couple of seasons but I think the teams he had in 2012 and 2013 have bought him a couple more years at least before he could be on the hot seat.

Personally I think Matt Painter is most underperforming among B1G head coaches, he just doesn't do a good job of building teams in my opinion. But Painter is still not on the hot seat, and he has at bare minimum one more year there & my guess is at least 2 before they could possibly fire him for poor performance. Pat Chambers is also towards the top of the list of coaches who should be on the hot seat soon if the trend of late continues, but PSU let Ed DeChellis have like 8 seasons and still didn't fire him so I don't see Chambers in real jeopardy of being fired within the next couple of years.

I read something really odd today, I read that Penn State is having their Senior Night the game they play this week against OSU, instead of their last regular-season home game of the year? I have never seen that before. Pat Chambers, what are you doing?

Could it be a "Homecoming" type of thing where they think they can win this game versus their last home game? I saw Wisconsin is the last home game. Maybe they think a win over OSU would be better suited for recruiting or UW is on a roll and doubt a win for "Senior Night". This is Penn State we're talking about though so who knows...

I have no idea why they have chosen to not have senior day on the last home date of the season, I've never heard of it happening like that anywhere else. I thought it was an odd choice, no rational basis from what I've seen.

Iowa is about to go down in Minneapolis.

Hopefully that game helps OSU get the #4 seed in the B1G tournament. OSU just needs to take care of business and win their last 3 games, and then have Iowa lose at MSU and then OSU will be #4 in the B1G. Iowa would own a tiebreaker against OSU if they were tied so OSU needs to finish ahead of them (or have a 3-way tie with UW) to avoid playing on the opening day of the BTT.

I have been following Wisky closely ever since we beat them hoping they get 1 more loss for us to get #4 seed but they wouldn't lose so I did as you did and turned toward Iowa but we would need to beat MSU and they lose to MSU like you said.
