2013-14 Bowl Games Open Thread

This bowl season is just dreadful. Shane Morris is the highlight of this calendar year and that is only for midwest fans that enjoy failure or gravitational bracelets.

16-13 Irish going into the 4th quarter. Cam McDaniel is getting some yards on the ground, was the #3/#4 back at the start of season. Chris Brown is doing a good job catching the ball right now too in place of a struggling Davaris Daniels. Been just an ugly 3 quarters so far though.

Granted it's saving them from a savage beating in the MNC game, but how the hell did Sparty ever lose to Ntre Ame?

Irish weren't beaten up on defense yet. MSU's corners struggled to cover the Irish WRs too. Lots of long passes on the outside and the MSU corners got beat, or they had to draw PI penalties to prevent the big plays. The Irish couldn't get much of anything running the ball though, and no short passes. The Irish are a different team than they were at the beginning of the season, they've gotten worse as the injuries have piled up. MSU has gotten better too.

Or they played textbook defense and got flagged anyway. The Irish would have about 14 flags thrown today if their DBs were being officiated like that game.

The spartans learned how to throw and catch a pass, which is kind of important. They were bad at both in september as seen by their struggles with their cupcake opponents.

I didn't have the benefit of seeing the game on TV, but from the stands it definitely looked like MSU's corners were getting beaten by the Irish WRs. Part of that could be because MSU's safeties weren't helping much, they were playing up closer to shut down the run. It was a lot of 1 on 1 on the outsides, which is why we were slinging it there and either getting the catches, or drawing the PI calls. MSU is definitely a better team today than they were in September, while the Irish have gotten worse with the injuries. They haven't been great overall this season, but they've gotten progressively worse after losing Nix, Grace, Sheldon Day for parts of the season, and various Safeties/OL now.

I keep hoping it gets better... I mean, these are still all the bad teams. Even scUM later today, which I don't think I'll watch.
The highlight so far has been CSU outplaying WSU except for a few stupid mistakes -- and then forcing the turnovers at the end to make up for those mistakes.
UW - BYU looked good for the first half, then BYU just checked out for the second half.

And now that ND will win their 3rd bowl game in 20 years... ESPiN getting the Preseason NC talk rolling.

It was bad and always saved ND from a punt/turnover.

The INT was the only one I could buy and there was a crapload of identical hand fighting by Dennard and Daniels on that play. The horribly underthrown fade routes vs Wayans were absolutely laughable calls, including him turning his head to play the ball.

Yeah, there were a couple bad PI calls in there, but at least it was a B1G crew on the field. There was a number of times their corners got beat on other passes though and the Irish either got the catch or Tommy overthrew the receiver, which was odd since his arm strength is usually considered pretty bad. The Irish ended up with only 220 total yards, with 78 yards running and probably half of those running yards came at the end of the 4th as they tried to run out the clock. The short passing game wasn't there, I just remember a ton of 1 on 1 match ups on the outside and a lot of long passes that ended up as incompletions.

Love the PI on Denard on that pass to DD at the goal line, only got to see it live. Looks like he just yanked the receiver to the ground to get the pick
