Certainly there are exceptions, but specifically regarding CS, my friend's father owns a very profitable IT company and he told me regarding my decision that he finds the kids at the local state school (UMass) just as knowledgeable as the kids he interviews at MIT. I could be wrong but that's how I justify it :)
