2012 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

So Florida's 2005 Gator season never happened? Instant success. Cool!

Florida was 9-3 that year with wins against Florida State, Tennessee, Georgia and a bowl game win. You proceeded to win the national championship the next year.

I'd be happy with better than 9-3 next year, but a similar trajectory would be just fine with me.

So, what exactly are you talking about here? Are you saying 2005 was not a successful year for Florida with Urban as the first year coach?

Also, this is a recruiting discussion thread.

I think all he was implying was that Urban could beat UM next year. Considering we came close yesterday with a 6-5 team on the road, with a rookie head coach, a defensive game plan that was at best questionable, a LB with one good leg, our 4th string safety playing a lot of the game, multiple overthrown TD passes, etc., I don't think his post is ridiculous at all. Certainly not enough so to quote and imply that he said something he didn't.

Based on Michigan's strong recruiting this season, and the good start they seem to be getting for the 2013 class, we may have a few tough seasons regardless of our coaching staff. Our defense was increasingly miserable this season (largely a result of key injuries, but points out our lack of depth) and we'll lose Sweat, by far our best tackler in the back 7. We lose our best running back and our best wide receiver.

I'm not gloom-and-dooming it, but I also don't expect immediate resumption of dominance over Michigan.

Please explain. I see one player (Dymonte), who is good but no Jalin Marshall, and then a host of top ohioans who are back to loving OSU.

Taco Charlton doesn't have an OSU offer, and is a guy offered on upside, not production.

I know it's fun to be different, but I'm not seeing this 2013 fallout you're suggesting.

Williams returning is huge, as is Shazier maturing.

I don't expect a return to 2010 standards quite yet, but there's a good chance for an uptick. Especially with another year of growth for Steve Miller & the arrival of Adolphus as pass rushers.
I'm not gloom-and-dooming it, but I also don't expect immediate resumption of dominance over Michigan.
I don't think UM is going away, I just disagree with the gloom and doom for OSU's side.

UM is getting Ohio players under Hoke that they'd never have attracted under either Lllllloyd (endgame years) or DickRod. If Brionte Dunn elects to go north, that would be a huge, huge loss that would haunt us for four years.

Again, Ohio State will not fall off the face of the earth, but what Michigan is doing in recruiting right now can't be ignored - they are killing it.

There is still a lot of talent on the D and if Sabino doesn't improve then I think it will be Grant's time.

Also hurt pretty bad yesterday that we had a LB playing on 1 leg and nobody could tackle. Fickell's idea of shortening the practices with less hitting didn't seem to work out. The hitting was the worst I've ever seen from an Ohio State team this year, pretty much everyone forgot how to tackle.

Look at Michigan's D and how much they improved by just knowing their assignments, having confidence and making tackles. There is minimal talent on that D outside the DL and were a top 5 scoring defense. We'll be more than fine with the right coordinator.

Those worrying about 2013 recruiting will have their eyes opened soon enough.

I think there will be a few growing pains next year but I certainly see the talent to compete for the league title. Certainly not scared of Michigan.

Its been 1 year that they have done this....It took ohio state beating itself for michigan to finally beat us in recruiting. Ohio State needs to send a big ole cookie to michigan and apparently you since you both think Michigan has returned from the heavens.

Almost all of which were buckeyes before the nuclear bomb went off in columbus. No doubt Hoke has been aggressive & effective though.

But that's not what I quoted...

again, please explain your comments about the 2013 class. Because it sure looks like you're assuming...

They're 10-and-2. That's back. I'd love for the Buckeyes to have that 2011 record.

Yeah, and Mrs. Lincoln was enjoying the theater before Booth made his unwanted entrance.

Michigan going 10-2 with the schedule I see does not really impress me. Sorry...Lets see how they do next year when that schedule gets beefed up some. Maybe then Michigan fans and yourself can beat your chest then.

Secondly, throwing that 10-2 record out has nothing to do with recruiting or the 2013 class/ 2012 class we were all talking about.

And why they're doing it shouldn't be ignored, either.

I'm sure not beating my chest. Just pointing out that Hoke has brought in a phenomenal 2012 class and is getting a good start in 2013. I don't subscribe to any of the pay services, so cannot provide a point-by-point response to Josh, but what I hear on 247 radio and "the grapevine" suggests Hoke isn't losing momentum.

No one would be happier than me to find out Hoke was Rodriguez redux when it comes to recruiting. But that seems not to be the case, unfortunately. We lost too much Ohio talent throughout the 1980s and 1990s to The Great Faithless ***** Up North, and I don't like the idea of a return to that status - though we're nowhere near that point yet.

I would disagree a little on the Scum recruiting for 2012. Although there is talent at DE, DT, LB and OT, right now I do not see allot of quality at the skill positions. That is one of the reasons Dunn is such a major recruit for them. And they are still an air biscuit at WR. At the defensive skill position, Richardson is the only one that would that I see as a possible dominate player.

I agree that we won't see 9-1 again anytime soon as that is just too hard and requires a string of brakes to go your way. I would be very happy for us to go 7-3 over the next 10 years and I think that is very possible with Coach Meyer.
