2012 In-state Players to Watch

Not sure if he has been mentioned yet, but Luke Roberts (2012) 6'2 225 LB of Lancaster is one to watch. He has been invited to OSU select camp (as has his teammate Aaron Woosley, 2012 6'4 240 DE). The big thing about Luke is that he is still only 15 years old!

Will be camping this summer at OSU, Kentucky and Penn State.

Here is a clip of him last year as a 14 year old Sophmore from scouting ohio. Not sure if he is Buckeye level yet, but has so much room to grow with his age.

Has there been any mention of Jamire Westbrook from Kings HS in Cincy? ESPN seems to really like this kid and UC has already offered. Cousin is Brian Westbrook, and he has a 3.0GPA.

College Football Recruiting: Rising junior Jamire Westbrook gets his first offer - ESPN

Westbrook is in the class of 2012. He's a very good all-around tailback who can run and catch equally well, so some school is going to find him to be a perfect fit for their offense. I'm not sure he has the burst or explosion of a Warren Ball or William Mahone, though.

Cincinnati is the first school to verbally offer Austintown Fitch RB William Mahone. He will be in the discussion with Warren Ball and Brionte Dunn for top back in the state next year. In fact, given what I've heard about Dunn lately, Mahone may be the #2 guy in the state at RB behind Ball.

Whats going to happen with our RB depth if we happen to land Erick Howard, and also 1(possibly 2) of the top 3 RBs of Ball, Dunn and Shell? Can't too much depth be a negative? We lose Zoom after this season, and Boom the next, but with no transfers we still will have Berry, Hall, Hyde, Smith, Martin, Howard and 1 of the frosh, IMO there's no way we keep all of those kids. Or maybe some will have to switch positions

In your opinion is Dunn starting to look like a better LB prospect than RB?

He's starting to look more like a defensive end than linebacker.

I posted this elsewhere, but I'm hoping that the transition from Alliance to Glen Oak accounted for the conditioning issue. I think Dunn is so naturally instinctive in his running ability that he could have a great career in college if he finds the sweet spot in weight.

Very savy way of saying what I was trying to say...

Martin is not a true RB who will threaten that group for carries. Berry and Hall are your ZOOMs...Smith and Hyde are your BOOMs. I'll believe Howard will suit up in an OSU jersey when I see it. If OSU does not take a RB in this class (which is how it's looking), here is what you will potentially have coming into the 2012 season:

Hall - Senior
Berry - RS Junior
Hyde - Junior or RS Sophomore
Smith - Junior or RS Sophomore

I don't see that as being an unattractive situation for a freshman to come into...watch and learn for a couple of years and then have 2-3 years to shine in the offense, depending on how things shake out.

I agree with that, and I've always thought that Martin might go back to FB, but others have steered me to thinking he might get some more carries at TB. I think he's going to get lost in the shuffle at either position. Boren has FB locked from now, until he leaves, and our TB competition is so tight that he's just not going to make an impact there unless there's a lot of injuries.

But it would be interesting for a frosh, but I don't know how the staff convinces 2 of those top RBs to come to OSU, when all of them can start(or at least crack the 2 deep) at just about every school thats recruiting them.

Jalen Robinette - Columbus Bexley - ATH (DB, WR, P) - 6'3, 185 lbs.

Jalen Robinette - Scouting Ohio

Watch for Jalen to show up more and more on the recruiting scene. Coach Haynes has already been into visit and was in attendance at the Spring Game. Has only played two years of football and was concentrating more on basketball until he began being recruited.

Wideouts stand out at State College Nike Football Training Camp - ESPN

Corey Smith (Akron, Ohio/Butchel) was dominant at times. He was extremely difficult for any defensive back to cover, showed excellent speed, hands, body control and overall playmaking ability. Depending on what he looks like in pads at game speed, Smith could potentially be one of the better receiver prospects in the Midwest for the next recruiting cycle.

FWIW i was just told that Centerville has a kid named Benny McGowan and that he is one to watch. He currently measures at 6'3'' 283 and that was his sophomore numbers. From what I have been told he is better than Bennett on the offensive side of the ball at his age. He will almost certainly play OG in his future but he is someone to keep an eye on.
