If fans can see this issue in our secondary then like you stated poe i'm pretty sure all other teams we are playing can see that issue as well.
If Gene Chizik is fired and is willing to take a peak at OSU as a D-coordinator what would you guys think. I know i'm jumping the gun but even if Meyer decides to stick things out with the current staff and gives them more time how do we not jump at that opportunity regardless?
The OSU defense is suppose to be the best in this conference without question and if someone with the pedigree comes along to get us back to where we are suppose to be I think you got to do it.
I guess my only opinion would be I trust Meyers judgement.
As far as last night and the current state of the D goes I think it's a lot of factors all in play. Impossible to say it's just one thing.
Some things I think I see;
-DL cannot affect a QB from the shotgun enough (sometimes they do but not consistently enough).
-When QB's get time they find open receivers
-When long runs are given up it seems like its usually 4 DL blocked, an OL gets on 1 LB and no one else in the picture. I can only assume the safeties are off helping the corners?
-Intangibles/effort...I get the feeling this part of the team suffers the most from "nothing to play for this year" syndrome r something to that effect. They just don't seem to have much fire in the collective belly. (Obviously there are a couple of exceptions). This more than anything else is what I think could get LF in trouble. The defense appears to not play hard for him....that could be huge.
This week vs Purdue will be interesting as they have scored 17, 13 and 14 points respectively against ND, scUM and Wisky. Conversely, they have scored 48, 54 and 51 against Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Mich and Marshall.
This is a big game for Luke Fickell's future imo. If our D can't keep them under 21 I think he's in a lot of trouble. Hope not, I like the guy but I just get the feeling he's in over his head right now.
