2011 Women's World Cup

Does the suckage of the refing in this game mean that the refs will be less likely to rape us with bad calls in the next two - or is that just the burden we have to deal with?

Depends on the ref. As much as the calls for the "fix was in" this lady just sucked... that was outlined as much as anything by her need to lecture people on a corner kick in OT. The next ref will do what they want... right or wrong. Problem is that in soccer it usually doesn't equal out when they fuck up. If this woman really wanted things to be equal, there would have been at least 6 mins of extra time after the dive by.... well whatever the fuck her name was.

Bug kudos to the non-partisans in the crowd for seeing the screw job... and, yeah, Marta is a cunt, but, what a finish on Brazil's second goal.. really, really beautiful. And really instinctive by Wambach on the equalizer off a desperation cross in...

I know he was calling the international feed in 1994 (which ESPN used on tape- delayed games that year), but maybe Ian Darke calling U.S. games result in at least one late goal for the Americans in tournaments.

I still like watching the build up of the tying goal and No. 11 on Brazil faking her injury near the corner flag. She gets up when the ball is 50 yards from her.

To be honest the only thing that worries me against the Frenchies is their Right Striker. I can't remember her name, I think she's number 12, blazing fast and tore up the back left side of the English defense consistently. She doesn't have the foot skills of a Marta, but she's fast

Agree Akak, martas touch on the second goal was world class. But it shouldn't have counted, the ball played to the girl who gave it to Marta was offsides.

For the most part, I think we contained their strikers pretty well. A few breakdowns, but overall the defense played well

Eh... I didn't think it was that bad on the offside... had it been the other way I'd take it... the other goal was the problem, not that one. It was at least close and lots of traffic on the line.

Non-sequitor, but, I'd have been quite happy had Allie Krieger gone all shirts off on her PK... just sayin.

Wasn't BAD, but still doesn't make it NOT offsides. Clearly the player on the left side was offsides when the ball was passed to her.

Yeah, not BAD is what I said.

I didn't say it wasn't off... what I said was it was a great touch. Big fucking deal. My point was that I could live with that.... the red card/Pk retake idiocy... not so much.

Agreed. Just hate when calls that should be pretty easy to call, go uncalled. Same goes for the ridiculous calls that shouldn't be called.

Just saying... on that offside line there was a lot of noise.... not excusing it, but, it wasn't an egregious miss... at the time, and hindsight being 20/20 I have less of a problem with it than I might otherwise. I do think the offense should (generally) get the benefit...

Regardless, and not Marta's fault, and it was a beautiful and creative finish... like I said, I can live with that. Even with the offsides it wasn't a feebie.

You want unforgiveable? 3 Brazil players being a spectator and leaiving their Gk to stop Wambach... ahhahahahahahahahahah...

Edit, I just watched that replay, she's off, but not by a lot.. honestly as it happened I didn't think much was wrong with it...

whatever, we got the result...

so, Marta can stick a dick in it.

Such an amazing cross to get it to Wambach. Big question: Who's your player of the game? I give Hope Solo this one, with Wambach a CLOSE second.

Was she the one who crossed that ball in?

Ummm.. I think so... the short haired blond girl playin on the left wing.. she did a huge amount of transition work... she actually had some pretty bad moments too, but, got a pk and i think she did fire that cross off... though generally I wathed her work hard both on the dribble and getting the ball to the front... so... if she had the assist, no brainer. Best player on the field today from what I saw. (I might be discounting some US defenders keeping that awesome brazillion front in check generally... but, I saw her worknig hard all 120+ mins-- err at least the second half and extra)

Yeah. Haven't had a chance to watch much of the WWC. I've caught maybe one game. That plus the fact that the U17 Men's World Cup is going on at the exact same time isn't helping things. I want to watch both. I'm pretty pissed off that the Copa America isn't on TV either, it is however on Youtube if anyone isn't getting their fix of international soccer.
