Heather was the one doing the chomp.

This is the best Heather can do for you right now. I think her heels get stuck in the mud when she wears them.

Ok, not full frontal or anything but a solid step in the right direction.

That's all I ask is some effort.

Also, #13 for Brazil faking that injury is what gave the time for the USA to strike in the 122nd minute...so thanks for your piss poor sportsmanship!

Something like that should result in an automatic red, in my IMO. That kind of shit has no place in a game, at any level.

I've enjoyed watching these matches because the women's game doesn't seem to contain the same cynicism that the men's game does.

The play where Marta "drew" the penalty was a gret example of this. Part of the reason that play was controversial in the first place is that both players were actually playing hard and going for the ball. In the men's game the attacker would've dove 90% of the time.

Brazil showed their class in extra time and reverted to the standard set by their male counterparts. As a fan of the game it was really disappointing to see, but as an American I'm glad that this became one of those rare instances where the soccer gods punished it swiftly and brutally.

Explain to a non-soccer fan why the Marta penalty was a penalty...

it wasn't...

i'm guessing the ref thought the defender knocked her out of the way, but once the foul was called a red card had to be given cause that's the rule, a foul in the penalty box is an automatic red (which I think is harsh, team is already getting a PK and now they're getting a man advantage)

OK, that makes more sense. If anything, it looked as if Marta was out of line.

Does the suckage of the refing in this game mean that the refs will be less likely to rape us with bad calls in the next two - or is that just the burden we have to deal with?

A foul in the penalty box is not an automatic red...it should only be a red if it denies a clear goal scoring opportunity. They can give yellows for fouls in the box.

It wasn't. It was a 50-50 ball and it should not have been a foul on either player. My point was that the play would've been very different in the men's game - the attacker would've tried to play the ref instead of playing the ball.

The U.S. men didn't really get any favors after the Slovenia game last summer and the ref from Mali.

Watched some moments of the game again.

Even though ESPN is just going off the international feed (like they do for every major tournament), they really have the nets "mike'd up" majorly.

You heard it with the Buehler goal against North Korea and again today on Wambach's (the nets).

Both French goalies can be beat, if shot on. I imagine Cox goes to leftback and Lepeilbet bounces inside.
