I am damn proud of our defense. Out a starting db and two solid backups, they not only held the zips to zip but also under 100 total yards. That is something to hang your hat on no matter who you play.

As bad as Akron was last year, they weren't held below 100 yards by anyone they played.

In fact, Akron hasn't been held below 100 yards since 2007 when they last played Ohio State.

It looked like at the start the defense was over penetrating Akron's line and creating lanes for the QB to make some plays, then the defense settled down and played more contain and looked more under control. A lot of 3 step drops is what we'll continue to see from teams and that will put the issue on the back 7 tackling and making plays. We still got 5 sacks and multiple TFLs.

Really loved how Fickell turned the dogs loose in the second half when he started putting in the backups and blitzed them at will.
