2011 Running Backs Discussion

Zach Boren will be back at FB, but before (and after) the return of Boom Herron, the other RB spot will have a battle for carries among Jordan Hall, Jaamal Berry, Carlos Hyde, and promising redshirt freshman Rod Smith.

It will certainly be interesting to see if everyone is back come fall camp! That is a crowded stable of talented horses.

I want to see us rotate backs and absolutely beat defenses down. I love the way Boom and Saine pushed each other to run harder. If the five that are left will do the same, these horses will help whomever winds up under center for the first half of the season.

I almost feel bad in saying I agree I really want to see Hall and Hyde, because Berry is every bit as good! We have an embarassment of riches at the RB position!

Look for Rod Smith in spring practices. I think he could be special. I like Berry but was also glad to see Hall on the get in the game yesterday.

+1, I love a power back who looks like a strider in the open field...Herron runs absurdly hard, but his size/lateral mobility limit him from being great. Smith has the size and speed needed but until he plays we wont know if he can use it when it counts.

Way Too Early Look: 2011 Running Backs

The Buckeyes will be breaking in a new QB for the first five games in 2011. With a new QB throwing to an extremely inexperienced group of receivers, the running backs will be the focal point of the offense and Tressel will rely heavily on them to win games in September.

With the suspension of returning starter Boom Herron (216 carries, 1155 yards, 16 TDs), Ohio State will also be breaking in a new running back (or three). Unlike the QBs, however, the prospect of a new RB is mostly an exciting one for Buckeye Nation, particularly given the pool of talent waiting to show what they've got.

How much time/carries do you think boom will get once he gets back? I'd have a hard time seeing it would be anywhere close to what it was last year after a 5 game sit.

Boom was head and shoulders above the other guys, he'll get worked into the lineup.
