2011 Rivals/Scout/etc. National & Regional Rankings

Yeah, I know the recruisting is not over and nobody has signed a LOI yet; however, it sure is looking like a "down year" overall for the Big 10. The only other (current) Big 10 team in the top 25 is Michigan State at #25. OK, I saw Nebraska at #14.

2. Ohio State
25. Michigan State
27. Michigan
30. Wisconsin
31. Iowa
36. Indiana
52. Illinois
59. Northwestern
60. Minnesota
67. Penn State
72. Purdue

The big ten never ranks well in the recruiting polls.

Like the rest of the 'big ten = down' chatter, it all revolves around UM. PSU is very inconsistent in their rankings, Wisconsin/Iowa are always poorly rated. MSU usually is also. The bottom half of the big ten competes with the MAC & Big East for recruits.

The Big Ten's overall lack of respect, just kills us in the BCS equation.
Hasn't the Big Ten played in more BCS games than any other conference? We send two teams practically every year. Compare that to the ACC, who seems to fair a little better in the recruiting rankings, who has never sent two teams in one year to the BCS.

And you know it shouldn't. I'd say that the Big 10 is the #2 conference behind the SEC. And next year:

1) with Nebraska we'll be even stronger

2) USC is no longer dominate and the PAC 10 is not really helping themselves improve the conference with Colorado and Utah. They are just adding a conference championship game and TV revenue.

3) the Big XII is drops down a big knotch losing Nebraska

4) the Big East and ACC just suck in football.

6 Ohio State Buckeyes
Commits: 19 ESPNU 150 Commits: 5 Top Prospect: DE Steve Miller
Five-star commits: 0 Four-star: 11 Three-star: 8 Others: 0

Previous rank: 6
Athletic receiver Evan Spencer (Vernon Hills, Ill.) is a coveted playmaker who makes an already-deep class better and helps Ohio State sit comfortably in the top 10 of the class rankings. The Buckeyes have cleaned up in Ohio with No. 2-ranked quarterback Braxton Miller (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne), top-three DE Steve Miller (Canton, Ohio/McKinley) and four-star OG Michael Bennett (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville). Miller, an Under Armour All-American, fits the mold of a Troy Smith, but Miller is more explosive as a runner. He has a big arm and can make all the throws. Jim Tressel and his staff went outside the state as well, plucking two talented four-stars out of Florida: safety Jeremy Cash (Plantation, Fla./Plantation) and tight end Jeff Heuerman (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier).

Done before Shaizer's announcement...ESPN has him as a 4-star as well...

Rivals rankings being a joke was confirmed this past week. Rivals admitted that they do not have anyone that covers the Midwest like they have teams of "experts" covering the South, Midlands, Atlantic, West, etc. Basically, the Midwest is being ignored as far as coverage.

I don't know what amazed me more, that they completely ignore an important region, or that a Rivals employee actually admitted it.

OG Michael Bennett (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville)

is any school seriously recruiting him as a OG?

Scout $ - Bennett Still Growing As A Defender

5/19

By Jardy...began playing defense for the first time last year, as well as playing guard...will be an every down DL this year...OSU recruited him exclusively for D...his coach says the decision took so long because he was having a hard time saying no to Northwestern.

Yes I know but I believe that some teams were recruiting him for OG as well.
Throughout his career he played significantly more OL than DL. His junior year he only played DL a handful of times per game (basically every time he played he made some type of highlight). This year he was playing both ways but during their playoff run he played 70% OL and 30% DL.

His future is bright on either side but he would prefer to play DL and that is where he will get his first shot.
