Miami offers Hamilton juniors
Posted by mdyer October 27th, 2009, 9:36 am

Miami University has offered Hamilton junior WR-DB Brian Cleckley (6-1, 179) and junior WR Kenny Lewis (5-11, 165), according to Hamilton football coach Jim Place.

Lewis is getting recruited as a receiver, while Place wasn't sure if Cleckley was being recruited as an athlete or receiver. Cleckley has played quarterback for the Big Blue this season.

"Great to see MU being aggressive with local kids," Place said in an e-mail. "I think both of these kids will receive lots of offers."

Nick VanHoose of Graham (the player I described earlier in the thread) ended up with 1,861 yards with 23 touchdowns and 186 points total. That put him at either 3rd or 4th total in the state I believe. In terms of total offense, he was well over 2,000 yards with returns and receiving. He was a one man show this year and sometimes didn't even have the blocking, yet scorched the field with the defense keying on him with 8 men in the box. He is a D1 player for sure but I'll try to figure out what schools are showing the most interest.

Here are eight sleepers to keep an eye on. These are not necessarily Buckeye-caliber recruits, but ones who aren't getting much attention right now but who should be within the coming months.

Antwan Gilbert 5-11 175 TB Trotwood-Madison
Gilbert has become T-W's main offense this year, taking away a lot of touches from D-I recruits like A.J. Jordan and Marcus Graham. He's currently leading Ohio in rushing and has excellent running skills to go along with very good speed.

Landon Smith 6-1 185 WR Girard
Smith has a good combination of size and speed and blew up this year in Girard's pass-happy offense (coordinated by former Buckeye and YSU QB Nick Cochran). If he shows top-end speed, he'll get some very good offers. He is just as good on defense, but the numbers he put up this year on offense will get people's attention first.

Chuck Bradford 6-0 175 ATH Euclid
Bradford plays quarterback and safety now for Euclid, but will get shots at WR and CB in college. He's a great athlete and just a natural football player.

Lloyd Henry 5-11 165 WR Garfield Heights
Henry blew up this year like Landon Smith and was uncoverable in Lake Erie League action. He only plays offense, potentially limiting interest.

Austin Traylor 6-4 210 DE/TE Columbus Walnut Ridge
Traylor racked up double digit sacks and had over 20 receptions on offense, and showed nice athleticism at each spot. Walnut Ridge has an unfortunate history of having its top prospects having grade problems, so hopefully Traylor can break that trend.

Kevin Brewton 6-3 215 DE/TE Akron Garfield
Brewton is in the same mold as Traylor, but not quite as productive, although that has much to do with the difference in caliber of competition as well as the way Garfield uses him.

Tristin Boykin 6-0 180 TB/WR Centerville
Boykin is a poor man's Corey Brown (the 2010 version). He is a tailback for Centerville, but his frame and receiving skills may dictate a move to wide receiver in college.

Mark Murphy 6-2 200 S Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary
Murphy doesn't have elite speed, but he's well schooled as a safety considering his father is the former Green Bay Packers star of the same name.

Football notes
Posted by mdyer December 2nd, 2009, 9:08 am

Here are a few notes today:

Walnut Hills junior TE Benson Brown (6-6, 232) has taken unofficial visits to Indiana (for the Wisconsin game) and Ohio State (Iowa game). ?He can easily get to 250 pounds, (he) has a very thick frame,? Walnut Hills coach George Kontsis said in an e-mail. ?Great athlete and possesses great hands. I fully expect him to get some kind of offer during the senior days in June.?

Top Prospect Analysis: Jesse Slone, Oak Hill HS, OH, Class of 2011

Jesse Slone, Oak Hill HS, OH Class of 2011:

Slone took center stage at both the Ultimate 100 and Top Prospect Camp this past season. Tall and slender 6'3 190, Slone put together scintillating performances at each camp, zipping the ball across the field into his receivers? hands. With a strong arm, quick feet (running a solid 4.48 shuttle at the U-100), outstanding mechanics and uncanny play calling ability, Slone is an excellent prospect. Jesse was the MVP at the U100 Midwest and the U100 Top Prospect Camp.

Future Outlook:

Slone further solidified his status as a top tier prospect this year by being selected first team all state He completed 76% of his passes (156-217), while throwing for 2,432 yards during his junior year. By tossing 30 TD's and just one 1 INT, his decision making and game management abilities are second to none. With his senior year still to come, Slone has received letters from Cincinnati, Michigan State, Indiana, Wisconsin, Louisville, Kansas and Wake Forrest among others. I would be quite surprised if he didn't end up playing at a big time D-1 school.

Toledo offered and he's getting interest from Ohio State, Northwestern, Boston College, and Michigan State. He's training with Jack Mewhorts former trainer. Plans to attend as many camps as he can this year and thinks OSU will be inviting him to the invite only camp.

Dalton Hartley - Yahoo! Sports
2010 Dalton Hartley - Deleware Hayes DT75,

In the Locker Room with Dalton Hartley

This is a good friend of mine, who I play with at Delaware Hayes, Dalton Hartley. Dalton is a junior and a captain on the team. I can't read the article because I don't have premium, but I'm sure I could just ask Dalton whats going on with his recruitment.

Dalton has pretty good size at about 6'1", 270 lbs, and boy does he have a motor. He isn't overly fast, but hes pretty quick for his size. He plays Nose so doesn't make too many plays, but is asked to command a double team, which he does all the time. Dalton also plays center, and is very good at that. I think he had about 10 pancakes last week, but his future is most likely at DT.

As far as schools go, I'm not really sure who he prefers.

2011 Dalton Hartley - Deleware Hayes - Jr year
Dalton's junior film. He's the center and DT, number 75.

Reverse my earlier comment about Dalton. It looks like his future is on the OL. He has a TON of pancakes on his highlight film. At times he basically grabs hold of the opposing D-linemen and flips him over and lays on him. See the Davidson game for some good example of this.

I know Hartley's first love is Defense, but he could probably be a good D1 prospect at center or guard.
