All-American
The Buckeyes took 5th at the Great Lakes Regional and earned a trip to Nationals next Monday. A solid effort all around, but especially from Chris Fallon. Probably would have been in the running for 3rd with Jake Edwards in the lineup.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State men's cross country team finished fifth overall among 31 teams Saturday at the 2011 NCAA Great Lakes Region Championships at the Ottawa Park Golf Course in Toledo, Ohio.

Senior Adam Green had the best day for the Buckeyes, finishing 19th out of 211 competitors in a 10K time of 30:44.4. Junior Donny Roys (30:48.6) finished 21st overall followed by junior Chris Fallon (30:51.5) who took 22nd. Junior Julian Meyer and senior Taylor Williams rounded out the scoring for the Buckeyes with 31st and 33rd place finishes, respectively.

Wisconsin took home the regional title with a combined score of 50. Butler's Callum Hawkins took home the individual title with a first-place time 30:01.5.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State men's cross country team received an at-large bid to the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championships, the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced Sunday night.

The selection marks the 13th national championship appearance in program history for the Buckeyes, who are coming off of a fifth-place finish at the Great Lakes regional championships. Ohio State has now reached the championship race for the eighth time since 2000, which is third-most among Big Ten schools.

This marks the seventh trip to the NCAAs for the Buckeyes under head coach Robert Gary.

"I am very proud of our program," Gary said. "With the hundreds of teams at nationals, I don't think many people have an appreciation for just how hard it is to be one of the 31 teams. I have been very impressed with our depth of fitness and the character of our team this season. The team also responded superbly once we realized Jake Edwards was not going to make it back."

The NCAA championships will be held Monday, Nov. 21 in Terre Haute Ind., on the campus of Indiana State University.

The OSU men finished 23rd at today's NCAA Championships. Donny Roys led the way for the men, as he as done all season.

A solid, but unspectacular, run for the men.

I'm a little surprised Wisconsin beat out Oklahoma State for the national championship. I knew they had a shot but just thought oOSU had a little stronger team, guess I was wrong. And they won by 41 points... pretty large margin for the NCAAs.

Wisconsin was a pretty heavy favorite going into the meet. Had Mecheso run for Oklahoma State this year, things may have been different, as he absolutely had the ability to make up the 40 point gap. Honestly, Wisconsin didn't run that well. I think Connor could have run a better race, and Darling certainly could have, as he finished 13th last year. Lowe and Fernandez did as expected for Okie, Farrell and Kipchirchir were slightly off what would have been hoped for them, and Stubliski ran well, but not lights out like he did last year. Wisconsin opened the door for Okie, and Okie did run well, but didn't knock it out of the park like they needed to to win. Colorado, on the other hand, ran incredibly well, nearly taking 2nd place. And after really underachieving the past two years, Stanford ran quite well today.

Per his Twitter account, Devin Smith will be running track for OSU. That is absolutely huge for the team. Smith was the D1 state champ in the 100 and Long Jump, and was a favorite to win the High Jump, having gone 7'00" at the regional meet. Smith can make an immediate impact in both jumping events, and perhaps the 100 as well, and certainly on the 4x100 relay. OSU's LJ corps is very strong right now with Hartfield, Korbin Smith, Derek Blevins, Stephen MacDonald, and now Devin. Hope this happens.

Nickles Shatters School Heptathlon Record at Golden Flash Gala
Ohio State junior sets PRs in five events for a first-place score of 5602

Dec. 10, 2011

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Junior Heath Nickles put on a spectacular show at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala Saturday afternoon in Kent, Ohio, capturing first place in the heptathlon with a school indoor and Kent State Field House record score of 5602.

Nickles, the defending Big Ten outdoor champion in the event, posted PRs in five of seven events: pole vault (5.30m/17-4.50), shot put (13.76m/45-1.75), 60m hurdles (8.41), high jump (1.93m/6-4) and 60m dash (7.32). The first place showing in the pole vault was the second-best indoor mark in school history and would have been the second-best mark in the Big Ten for the entire 2011 season.

Cont...

His score has him #1 in the nation in this early part of the season. Congrats Heath!

Heath has really been coming along both in the hep/decath and PV. His 17'4" vault as part of this Hep was a great sign, as he will compete in both events at the B1G Championships.

Other good news on the recruiting front - OSU has signed three recruits for next season, one being who I view as the top prospect in the state: Donovan Robertson.

Donovan Robertson - Berea High School: 2010 Division 1 state champ in the 300 hurdles, won his prelim heat of the 110 hurdles before falling and being DQd in the finals; 2011 state champ in the 300 hurdles (36.90) and 110 hurdles (13.70 w/ a -0.6 wind reading), and state runner up in the 200 (21.63 w/ a -1.0 wind reading)(21.53 w/ a /1.0 wind reading in the prelims). Huge talent who can help in the hurdles, sprints, and relays. Gary has been targeting these versatile hurdler/sprinter athletes which I think is a great idea and he has had good success signing them (Simms, Comer, Roberts, Bogle, Marcus Brooks, Blanks, and now Robertson).

Champ Page - Henry A. Wise High School, Maryland: 2011 Maryland 4A (big school) state champion in the 200 and 400. PRs of 21.63 and 47.82. Great addition. OSU has always done well recruiting in Maryland.

Nick Pupino - Copley High School: I was hopeful Nick would follow Chris Fallon to OSU and he did. Nick finished 4th in D1 XC this year (15:27) and was third in the 3200 (9:24) at the 2011 state championships.

Other big fish still out there from Ohio are: Brannon Kidder, Willy Fink, Tsehaye Hiluf, Ryan Polman, Coy Blair, Jacob Blankenship, Steve Weaver, Adrian Ross, and Chris Strup.

Looking over the OSU roster it seems that some serious firepower has been added to the team. First and foremost is the addition of Ryan Fleck. It lists no other information than that he is a freshman jumper majoring in psychology. However, if this is the Ryan Fleck I hope it is, that means it is the Ohio DII state record holder in the High Jump transferring from Auburn. At AU, Fleck was the national runner up in the HJ as a freshman outdoors, and placed fourth at indoor nationals in 2010. I can find no results on him from last season and no info on if he transferred, but I hope that's the case.

Two big additions from the state of Illinois are freshman Timothy Faust and Nick Batcha. Faust was the Illinois 3A state champ in the 100 (10.49) and 200(21.21), while Batcha was third in both races (10.75, 21.64). Both great additions.

It also looks like Devon Snack transferred in after spending last year at Texas. Snack was the Ohio DI 800 state runner-up in 2010 in a time of 1:51.45 as a junior (he was hurt during he senior year). Not sure if he did anything at Texas last year.

Cody Miller also appears on the roster. Again, no info, but could likely be a transfer from Kentucky. Miller was the Ohio D2 state champ in the 400 (47.48) in 2009. Not sure what his results are from the past two years.

Ohio DII LJ state runner-up (22" 8.5") Brady Gelvin is another nice pick up.

Hopefully some more info will come to light once the season kicks into full gear.

Wow, if true, I didn't know Fleck transferred! I'm also hoping that it is the same guy we are thinking of and his bio page is just a placeholder for the time being. I was at the NCAA Regional in Louisville (2009) that he won... didn't see him jump but I saw him on the podium. Great addition for the Buckeyes. He'll give them some much-needed points at the Big Ten meets and a high possibility of All-American honors.

Buckeyes win classic

You two guys are really slipping up. You know who you are:wink:
Quote:
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State men's track and field team opened the 2012 season with a clean sweep of the 14-event Buckeye Classic Friday evening at French Field House.

The Buckeyes were joined at the third annual season opener by members of NAIA national champion Shorter Univeristy and a number of quality unattached competitors from around the Central Ohio area.

Double victories by Demoye Bogle and Donny Roys highlighted the first meet of the season for the Scarlet and Gray, with Bogle taking home wins in the 60m dash and 60m hurdles and Roys winning the 800 and mile runs.
Here's an event-by-event breakdown of the season opener:

60m Hurdles
Demoye Bogle ran a PR time of 7.86 seconds - the third-fastest in OSU indoor history - to take first place in the 60 hurdles. Heath Nickles finished a distant second with a time of 8.32.

60m Dash
Bogle added another win and PR in the 60m dash, crossing the finish line in 6.76 seconds. Shorter's Allen Hunt was the runner-up, followed by Buckeye Brandon Blackwell.

200m Dash
Blackwell fared better in the 200m, using a PR time of 22.09 to capture first place. Blake Callahan finished second for the Scarlet and Gray in 22.29.

400m Dash
Antonio Blanks picked up a win in the first race of his collegiate career, finishing in a time of 48.75. Shorter finished 2-3, with Malik Fair taking second in 50.30 and Terence Scruggs placing third in 51.30. All-American Thomas Murdaugh led Blanks in heat one, but pulled up and dropped out of the race coming around the final turn.

600m Run
Dan White (1:20.16) edged Marvel Brooks (1:20.44) for first place. Kurt Grove was third in 1:22.38

800m Run
Donny Roys turned in a time of 1:59.84 for first place. Adam Green was the runner-up in 2:02.22.

Mile Run
Six Buckeyes competed in the mile, with Roys emerging as the winner in a time of 4:16.12. Runner-up honors went to Will Knickles (4:17.12).
3000m Run
Chris Fallon won the 3000m in a time of 8:40.43, with Jackson Neff turning in a second place time of 8:43.29, a PR.

Long Jump
OSU's Michael McCarty took the top prize with a winning jump of 7.47m (24-6.25). Shorter's Trebor Holmes was second at 7.23m (23-8.75), followed by Derek Blevins (7.07m/23-2.50).

High Jump
The event featured two Buckeyes, with Brant Reardon (2.03m/6-8) edging Scott Kinkley (1.98m/6-6) for the win. Both Reardon and Kinkley surpassed the top mark by a Buckeye all of last season (Nickles, 1.92m/6-3.50).

Pole Vault
Nickles and Cody Marshall both vaulted to 4.87m (15-11.75), with Nickles taking home the win after clearing the bar on his first attempt. Tyler Borton placed third for the Buckeyes at 4.27m (14 ft.)

Weight Throw
A 20.40m (66-11.25) toss helped Max Mays to first place. Billy Gehring placed second at 18.84m (61-9.75), while Tyler Branch cleared 18.62m (61-1.25) for third.

Shot Put
Branch's 17.77m (58.3.75) heave earned him the shot put title. Curt Smith finished second with a 16.59m (54-5.25) toss, followed in third place by Dylan Vogt (14.66m/48-1.25).

4x400m Relay
The Ohio State `A' team of Marvel Brooks, Marcus Brooks, Luke Norris and Antonio Blanks raced to first place in a time of 3:17.90. Shorter's `A' team took second in 3:23.31.

This meet was basically a glorified practice, but a good rust buster and a few good results. The best performance was from Demoye Bogle, who PRd in the both the 60 hurdles and the 60. If Demoye can get that hurdle time down under 7.80, he will have a decent chance of making nationals. His 60m isn't elite, but may be good enough to score B1G points. Max Mays had a nice opening performance in the Weight Throw and Blanks with a nice opener soloing the 400. Brandon Blackwell also looked solid in the 60m and 200. Tyler Branch had a nice throw in the Shot Put. Topping it off was a great performance from OSU Micahel McCarty with his 24'6" LJ, which I believe is a PR. McCarty is a transfer from Miami who I would guess is in grad school at OSU and finishing up his eligbility since Miami doesn't have indoor track. He was a former second team all MAC performer in the Decathalon and is a great addition to OSU's LJ corps. Nice opener, but The Dual will be a much better indicator of where this team is at.

#4 Ohio State crushes TSUN

Where's Mr. Track:) What makes this beat down more impressive was that it was done without Thomas Murdaugh .

COLUMBUS, Ohio - No. 4 Ohio State cruised to an easy 91.5-70.5 win over rival Michigan in "The Dual" Saturday night at the U-M Indoor Track Building in Ann Arbor, Mich.

With the victory, which featured individual titles in 10 of 15 events, Ohio State picked up its fifth-consecutive win over their rivals from up North. The Buckeyes now own a 7-2 advantage over the Wolverines since the renewal of the series in 2008.

Here's a look at "The Dual" event-by-event:

60m Dash
Ohio State secured a 1-2 finish and eight points in the event. Brandon Blackwell placed first with a PR of 6.78 seconds, just ahead of Demoye Bogle (6.79). Justin Clarke of Michigan was third.

60m Hurdles
Bogle picked up five points with a first-place time of 7.88 seconds, a top 10 time nationally. UM's Herman Washington was the runner-up in 8.09 seconds, while Justin Hines collected a third-place finish and two points (8.20).

200m Dash
Blackwell finished second (22.09) behind UM's Matthew Campbell. Timothy Faust turned in a fourth-place time of 22.19 to bring the Buckeyes' point total in the event to four.

400m Dash
Running without All-American Thomas Murdaugh, Marvel Brooks (third, 49.12) and Korbin Smith (fourth, 49.43) contributed three points to the final team total. Aaron Taylor claimed first place for the Wolverines in 48.72 seconds.

600m Run
First place went to Marcus Brooks, who crossed the finish line in 1:21.92 for five points. Luke Norris earned an additional point for the Buckeyes with a fourth-place time of 1:23.13.

Mile Run
A time of 4:08.52 helped Cory Leslie to first place and five points. Chris Fallon earned two points for Ohio State with a third-place time of 4:10.70, just behind runner-up Brendon Blacklaws of Michigan (4:10.25).

3000m Run
Adam Green (8:30.65) edged Michigan's Morsi Rayyan (8:31.94) for first place and five points. Julian Meyer's fourth-place run was good for one point for the Scarlet and Gray.

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Senior Max Mays was named Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week Monday by the conference office based on his impressive performance at ?The Dual? last Saturday.
