2011-2012 Ohio State Men's Cross County and Track & Field

Thanks for posting, LB.

Solid meet for the guys, especially without Murdaugh and Hartfield who would have provided three more wins. Murdaugh was a DNF in the first meet, so I hope he didn't get hurt. With the long layoff (the next two weeks are meet-free) maybe the coaches wanted to wait to get their studs' seasons rolling until they start to compete more regularly? Could be redshirting as well, but not sure why with so many of the team's best guys being seniors. Hopefully not injury related. No Roys, either.

Regardless, the huge throw for Mays was awesome, Bogle continues to look good, Leslie had a very impressive double, and Nickles/Marshall are really getting consistent in the vault at solid heights. Blackwell looking like a contributor too, as is McCarty. DeChant continuing his struggles from last year a bit. Hopefully he is able to get back to an AA level. 400 guys disappointed, but hopefully just a bad race. Smith hasn't jumped yet either, which is interesting.

I was surprised OSU was taking two weeks off and skipping Penn State this year. Looks like it was simply not posted on the schedule, as OSU WILL be heading to Happy Valley this weekend.

http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/sports/m-track/spec-rel/012612aaa.html

Looking through the entries, Murdaugh is back, which is great, and Devin Smith is entered in both the Long Jump and High Jump. Stephen MacDonald will also make is long jump debut. Barron Witherspoon is also listed as competing for OSU, so perhaps they have taken the redshirt off of him.

Still not competing is Mike Hartfield. Not sure if this is an injury, redshirt, or simply waiting till later to compete situation (which I don't think is the case). Maybe there is another issue? Hope it's nothing serious. McCarty is also not competing this weekend, nor is Nickles. Maybe they are resting up to compete in the hep at Mayo next weekend? Korbin Smith is competing in the 400, but not in the long jump, again. Not sure what's going on there as Korbin was one spot away from going to nationals in the long jump last year. Jake Edwards is still out, as well, though this could be injury related.

The OSU highlights here look to be Cory Leslie going at in the Mile with the likes of Jeff See and Ryan Foster, Dan White in the 800 with Cas Loxsom, and Murdaugh in the hot heat of the 400 Invite. OSU is also entered in the Invite DMR. OSU rarely puts together an "A" squad for the DMR, so it will be interesting to see if they do so here. A DMR of Fallon, Brooks, White, and Leslie would likely qualify for nationals running in a fast race.

Cory Leslie of Ohio State broke his school record in the mile run at the Penn State National Invitational indoor track meet in State College, Pa.

With an NCAA automatic qualifying run of 3:56.85 ? the third-best Division I time this season ? Leslie finished in second place behind former Ohio State All-American Jeff See, who topped Leslie?s facility and meet record set in 2011 with a time of 3:56.51.

My post vanished somehow, so I'll just do a real quick recap of it:

Penn State National Invitational

http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/sports/m-track/recaps/012812aac.html

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Cory Leslie broke his own school record in the mile Saturday afternoon at the Penn State National Invitational in University Park, Pa., highlighting the final day of competition at Ashenfelter III Indoor Track for No. 11 Ohio State.

With an NCAA automatic qualifying run of 3:56.85 - the third-best Division I time this season - Leslie finished in second place behind former Ohio State All-American Jeff See, who topped Leslie's facility and meet record set in 2011 with a winning time of 3:56.51. Sam McEntee of Villanova placed third in an NCAA qualifying time of 3:57.86.

Take a look at the rest of the Buckeyes' trip to Penn State event-by-event:

Cont...

Most exciting performances:

1. Leslie's Mile, by, well, a mile.
2. Demoye Bogle running PRs of 7.84 then 7.83 in the 60HH.
3. 4x4 running 3:09.40
4. Devin Smith High Jumping 6'10.75" off probably a week of practice.
5. Thomas Murdaugh showing he is healthy with his 47.14 400.

This week the Hep guys go to Akron and the rest of the squad to Meyo at ND. Big meet for Nickles, as he will need to improve to near the auto mark to qualify for nationals, probably.

The Buckeyes are at Nebraksa this weekend for the Big Ten Championships.

http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/sports/m-track/spec-rel/022212aaa.html

Team predictions:

1. Nebraska
2. Ohio State
3. Minnesota
4. Indiana
5. Wisconsin

I see OSU scoring around 110 points, so 130ish if they kill it, 85ish if they struggle.

Event by event breakdown...

60M/60HH

Demoye Bogle has had a great year, setting the school record in the 60HH and looking like he has a good chance to go to nationals. National champion Andrew Riley is the clear favorite in the 60HH, but Bogle should finish either 2nd or 3rd. The bigger key will the 60M, where both he and Brandon Blackwell can score solid points if they run well.

Estimated Points: 13

200M/400M/600M

Outside of Murdaugh, this group has been underwhelming. Murdaugh is a huge favorite to win the 400, and he will likely place top 4 in the 200, even though he has yet to compete in that event this year. He placed 3rd and 2nd at the past two B1G Championships in the 200. Faust and Batcah have been ok, but likely won't score. The 400 guys haven't really hit a big race yet. Marvel Brooks has looked better in the 500/600 and will hopefully score in the 600. Marcus Brooks and Korbin Smith have both scored at B1Gs in the past at 400 and 600 meters and any points form them, or Blanks with a good 400, would really help.

Estimated Points: 18

800M

Cory Leslie ran a super race earlier this year, running 1:48.11 to win his heat by a ton at Washington and setting a new school record. However, he likely won't run this, leaving Dan White to hold down the fort. Dan had the old school record and is a national qualifier, but hasn't had the best season. He can absolutely score well with a good race.

Estimated Points: 3

1 Mile/3k/5k

Leslie also bested his old school record in the mile this year, and has a great shot to win. Andy Bayer will be very very tough, and Ben Blankenship could cause a problem if he runs (hasn't raced all year). Cory hasn't had that one huge race when it counts, yet, but with the way he's running I like his chances to win. Chris Fallon has a shot to make the finals with a good race - and he has been running very very well all year. Props to Josh Sabo, as well, for dropping to a 4:07 already. In the 3k/5k, Adam Green will be the only potential scorer. Roys must have gotten hurt, and no one else will contend. I don't expect Adam to score, but he pulled a shocker two years ago to finish 2nd in the 3k.

Estimated Points: 8

4x400/DMR

The 4x4 ran 3:09 back in January, but then haven't run an A squad since. The conference is very tight in the event up front, so its anyone's race. The DMR, despite being a C team, was only 4 seconds off the school record earlier this year. This speaks both to the depth OSU is building, as well as to how soft the record is. I think OSU runs their A squad here and wins, as Indian's studs (Bayer, Hubers) will likely both run the 3k, leaving Turner to anchor. I think a Fallon or Sabo/400 guy/White/Leslie team wins that race. If Blankenship runs for Minnesota they could contend.

Estimated Points: 15

Long Jump/Triple Jump/High Jump/Pole Vault/Heptathalon

Long jump has the potential to be huge or terrible. OSU is so deep in this event, but much of that is based on past performance. McCarty has been a huge addition, and Korbin is starting to jump well. Hartfield is the key - he only jumped once so far and it wasn't pretty, but that was a month ago. I'm assuming he's coming off an injury, and if he is close to 100% that will be important points. MacDonald usually comes through at championship time, so he shouldn't be counted out either. In triple, same thing with Hartfield. I don't on Blevins to score. High Jump looks bleak. Smith got worse every week then hasn't jumped, and Reardon has struggled. Vauld could be huge. Nickles and Marshall have both been great this year, with Cody PRing at 17 feet and Heath hitting 17' consistently and 17'4" a few times. Both should score, and potentially score well. Heath can win, but I don't see Marshall repeating his outdoor title, as that was kind of fluky. Nickles and McCarty are solid 4th and 5th in the Hep right now, but Heath can get second on a good day (would be sitting 2nd now if he would have vaulted better - dropped 90 points, but still set the school record). Kunze will likely grab a low place, as well.

Estimated Points: 38 (LJ: 13, TJ: 3, HJ: 0, PV: 10, Hep: 12)

Shot Put/Weight Throw

After struggling mightily outdoors last year, Matt DeChant did not improve much during indoors this year. That all change last weekend, as DeChant went 62' in the shot and then set a huge PR in the weight, throwing 70' to automatically qualify to nationals. Max Mays also threw 70' last weekend, also autoing. Bill Ghering had a nice 64' throw, but that likely won't get it done. Tyler Branch has a chance to grab a low place in the shot. Though DeChant and Mays sit 2-3 in the Weight, the B1G is ridiculously good in that event (9 of the top 21 in the country), so any slip up will be huge. With DeChant not histroically being great at this event, its hard to predict him to place too highly.

Estimated Points: 16

Nebraska is the favorite, especially at home. They are poised to score very very well in the long jump, shot put, and pole vault. That's why it is crucial for the OSU athletes in those events to do well. Not only is it points for OSU, but it knocks Nebraska down as well.

These guys will be key to OSU's success:

1. Mike Hartfield

A healthy Hartfield likely scores no fewer that 14 points, and likely 18. The Hartfield we've seen this year score maybe 2, not to mention the impact on knocking Nebraska guys down.

2. Matt DeChant

Big throws from Matt and he could be a double champion. If he has a off weekend, he could score 0 points. I put Hartfield as #1 since he is a such a question mark. DeChant has shown he can do it, but not consistently all year. I'm hoping that based on last weekend, he is starting to hit his stride and we see more of the same.

3. Korbin Smith

Smith is a B1G LJ champ, has been 3rd in the 400, and will almost certainly run on the 4x4. So far, his season has been sub par. But he can win the LJ, and a good 400 may grab a point. In the 4x4, every tenth will count, as the gap between PSU, Minny, Nebraska, scUM, and OSU is very small.

4. Heath Nickles

Hep plus PV is a big weekend. Heath has been great all year, but needs to keep up that greatness to get OSU the points it needs. Vault is big, as he can win at his best, but if struggles just a little it will be a big loss of points. He'll have to blow up to worse than 5th in the hep (absent someone who hasn't competed in one yet jumping in and doing well), but he can get second with a big performance. He could score 18, he could score 6.

As far a school records set this year, as discussed above, Bogle set the record in the 60HH, and Leslie got both the 800 and Mile. Heat Nickles also set the Hep record, despite an off PV performance. Other records in jeopardy are the DMR, which should fall if OSU runs an A team in a race that doesn't go out in a trot, and the PV, where Nickles is only 3 inches off the current record.

Great writeup stkoran... someone give him a GPA!

Link to live results of the championships:
http://www.huskers.com/fls/100/trac...?&SPSID=92&DB_LANG=C&&&&SPID=32&DB_OEM_ID=100

Nickles showed up big in the pole vault, winning with a jump of 5.32m (17' 5.5"). Cody Marshall also had a decent day finishing 8th with a jump of 5.32m (16' 9.5").

Unfortunately Heath seems to be struggling in the hep... he's sitting in 14th at the end of day 1. Michael McCarty is sitting in a solid 3rd and is 9th, just 29 points out of 7th.

Adam Green finished 7th in the 3K with a time of 8:04.97.

The long jump, shot put and DMR results were not up at time of this posting.

Disappointing fourth place finish:(

With a total of 94.33 points, Ohio State?s men?s team finished fourth at the Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships, held in Lincoln, Neb.
Indiana had the top team score with 104 points, while Minnesota (100) and host Nebraska (99) finished second and third, respectively.

The Buckeyes were led by the 1,600-meter relay team of Antonio Blanks, Korbin Smith, Marvel Brooks and Thomas Murdaugh, who set a meet record with a time of 3 minutes, 8.06 seconds.

Ohio State finished in what has to be an extremely disappointing 4th place at the Big Ten Championships. Indiana took 1st with 104 points, Minnesota was 2nd with 100, Nebraska was 3rd with 98, and OSU finished with 94.33. The 4th itself isn't what's so disappointing, it's that the title was right there for the taking, and to be blunt, they blew it. That's not to say there weren't many great Buckeye performances, and credit has to to be given to IU, Minny, and Nebraska, as they all performed very well. But this one really stings.

One note before I look at each event. In my predictions I forgot to account for the fact that the Men's and Women's meets were held at the same site this year. In the past they were separate. This allowed for athletes to run more events than they could in the past due the additional recovery time. Specifically, this helped Minnesota by allowing Abda to run the 400 and 600, as opposed to only one, OSU somewhat by allowing Leslie to run the 800 in addition to the Mile, and Indiana by giving Bayer and Hubers much more recovery time before they 5k. They would have run that anyway, but it would have been much tougher.

60 Meter Dash - 1 Point

This did not go well. To be fair, Blackwell set a PR of 6.75 in the prelims to make the final, which was great. Bogle did not run well and finished 15th after coming in ranked 4th. In the finals something must have happened, because Blackwell ran 7.15, which isn't just a bad race, that's pulling a hamstring, falling out of the blocks, etc. If he would have run 6.75 again he would have placed 3rd and earned 5 more points.

200 Meter Dash - 6 points

Murdaugh took 3rd, as I thought he would, but I assumed he would get beaten by Justin Austin, who pulled out of the final. This was an ok performance for Murdaugh, but I think he's 2nd if he runs well. Batcha ran ok and wasn't expected to make the final. Bogle ran this for the first time and did not do well. Not a disaster, but 2 points were left on the table. Nebraksa and Minnesota both overachieved a bit here, as well.

400 Meter Dash - 6 points

Not good at all. Abda (who won) is very good, but is an 800 guy. You don't expect the two-time defending conference champ to finish 3rd behind a guy who doesn't run the event and a guy he's half a second better than, and nearly finish 4th (only .01 ahead). That they were from Minny and NU didn't help. If Murdaugh wins this OSU finishes 2nd in the meet.

600 Meter Dash - 3 Points

Marvel Brooks was solid here, finishing in 6th place and nearly 5th. Brother Marcus missed the finals after scoring in this event last year, though he hasn't run well all season. This went as expected.

800 Meter Run - 6 Points

This was a mixed bag. Leslie ran great in the prelims and finals, incredibly running the exact same time in both (1:48.42 - a very strong mark). The winner is a returning All-American in the event and the runner up has the second best time in the country, so finishing third, after already running the Mile, was great. The bad news was that White did not run well at all, not coming close to making the final.

1 Mile Run - 11 Points

This went really really really well and was nearly the highlight of the meet. Cory finished an agonizing second place, only .05 seconds behind huge stud Andy Bayer of Indiana and well ahead of the rest of the field, which included multiple sub 4 milers. Fallon finished 6th was the icing on the cake. Fantastic performance from him. After his performance at this meet, I will be shocked if Cory isn't in the hunt for the National title in the mile - he is running that well. I think focusing on the 800 as his secondary event is playing to his strength and really helping this year, as opposed to doing the 3k in the past.

3000 Meter Run - 2 Points

Adam Green has been a great big meet performer and stepped up here again, finishing 7th in a stacked field in a new PR of 8:04. PRing in any championship race is very tough to do, especially one such as this which was very tactical (winner only ran 8:01). Big run for Adam.

5000 Meter Run - 0 Points

Nothing to say here other than that this event needs to be beefed up. Hopefully Bradjic will be strong here in the future.

60 Meter Hurdles - 0 Points

This was a disaster. Andrew Riley is the defending National champ and was clearly going to win. Bogle and Iowa's Jordan Mullen had marks well ahead of the rest of the field and should have battled for 2nd. Mullen ended up not running, leaving Bogle the clear favorite for 2nd place. His worst time this year would have placed him second. But instead he set a new season's worst in the prelims and then got DQd in the finals. This should have been 8 points and ended up a 0. Huge huge turn. I have to wonder if Bogle was sick or injured, because this was a terrible meet for him, and he ran very well at indoor and outdoor B1Gs last year.

4x400 Meter Relay - 10 Points

The team of Antonio Blanks, Marvel Brooks, Korbin Smith, and Thomas Murdaugh won and set a new B1G meet record in 3:08.06, which was fantastic. Great way to overcome the disappointment they had to feeling to get a huge result.

Distance Medley Relay - 5 Points

The DMR team of Josh Sabo, Korbin Smith, Dan White, and Chris Fallon ran 9:48 to finish 4th and just miss the school record. I though OSU would win this even with Cory on the anchor not thinking he would run the 800. But this was a very good effort and points wise this worked out in the end. Assuming OSU wins this but no Leslie in the 800, OSU would have lost 1 point, plus Minny would have gained 2. Not huge, but every point matters.

Pole Vault - 11 Points

This was a very exciting result. Nickles was really struggling in the Hep, and I was not bullish on his PV prospects. But Heath came out and set a PR of 17'5.5" to finish 1st. Big result. Cody Marshall was also solid at 16'9.5" to finish 8th.

High Jump - 0.33 Points

Devin Smith went 6'9.5" to finish in a three-way tie for 8th. Not great, not terrible. I have to assume track is tough right now with all the football training they are doing. Brant Reardon did not place with his 6'7.5", and has really struggled so far.

Long Jump - 9 Points

Well, if it wasn't for Nebraska joining the conference OSU would have finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th here and continued to dominate the conference in the event. Sadly Nebraska went 1-2-4 and knocked OSU down to 5-6-7. McCarty was right where he's been all year at 24'6.5" to take 5th. Hartfield, still clearly recovering from injury (I assume) took 6th in 24'4.25", a foot better than his last time out, so a solid result, just not what was anticipated at the beginning of the season (1st place). Korbin jumped ok (24'3.5") to take 7th.

Triple Jump - 4 Points

Another solid performance from Hartfield (50'7.5") to take 5th. If healthy, he would have been in the running for the win. Losing these points stinks, but injuries happen and for the most part can't be controlled. Props to Mike for working in the right direction and putting up his best marks of the season. Blevins continues to struggle and didn't place.

Shot Put - 0 Points

Disaster. DeChant and Branch took six total throws and fouled 5 times. The one throw DeChant did get off was his worst of the year. If he throws the same as last week, he takes 2nd. A mediocre throw places him 6th and puts OSU in 3rd place in the meet. Uggh.

Weight Throw - 15 Points

While Shot was awful, Weight went great. As I said in my preview, this event was extremely tough, with 9 of the top 21 nationally in the B1G. But the boys showed up here - Mays took 2nd in 69'09", DeChant took 3rd in 69'06" (big props to him for bouncing back like this in an event that has typically been secondary for him), and Bill Gehring snuck in for 8th in 63'03.5". Top point event for the team.

Heptathlon - 5 Points

While none of OSU's three Hep guys had their best performances, this actually went ok. McCarty and Nickles finished behind the three guys who were ranked ahead of them, and then two others competed in their first Hep of the year and finished better than Nickles PR, so what can you do? 6th for McCarty, who will be missed, and 7th for Heath.

What this breakdown demonstrates is that while OSU didn't dominate any event besides maybe Weight, they are very very solid across the board, which was not the case only a few years ago. The only events where no one scored were the 5k, Shot Put, and the 60 Hurdles, and in Shot and 60 Hurdles, OSU has guys who will likley be going to Nationals in those events just completely collapse. 5k was the only "hole," and in this conference you need to have All American type talents to score in that event.

Individually, here's how the points break down:

Murdaugh - 14.5
Leslie - 14
Nickles - 12
Mays - 8
McCarty - 7
Hartfield - 7
DeChant - 6
K. Smith - 5.75
Marvel Brooks - 5.5
Fallon - 4.25
Blanks - 2.5
Green - 2
White - 1.25
Sabo - 1.25
Blackwell - 1
Marshall - 1
Gehring - 1
D. Smith - 0.33

What you will see is that this was a very balanced team. Indiana only scored 9.66 more points than OSU, but look at it's top guys:

Bayer - 26
Butler- 20
Hubers - 15
King - 10
Poore - 8
Olamigoke - 8

That's 87 points for only 6 guys, with 61 from the top 3.

Looking ahead, OSU will be at Notre Dame this weekend for their last chance meet, then off to Nationals. As of now here is how things looks on that front:

IN: Leslie (Mile), DeChant (Weight), Mays (Weight)

LIKELY IN: DeChant (Shot), Bogle (60H), Murdaugh (400), 4x400, Leslie (800, but likely wouldn't run this event)

NEEDS TO IMPROVE: Nickles (Vault needs to get to 17'7.75 minimum, Hep - which won't happen), DMR (if they run the A squad), Hartfield (if he can pop a big jump)

Here are the full results: http://www.huskers.com/fls/100/trac...?&SPSID=92&DB_LANG=C&&&&SPID=32&DB_OEM_ID=100

I'll get a recruiting update up here soon after Nationals, but immediate recognition needs to go to OSU recruit Donovan Roberton from Berea, OH, who set the National Record for the 60M Hurdles last weekend in a time of 7.57 seconds. Kid is going to be a stud.

After years of hoping for this I finally get my wish - OSU has entered an "A" DMR at Notre Dame for tonight: Fallon, Smith, White, and Leslie. At worst this team should best the school record by 10 seconds, and hopefully more like 15. Fallon will hopefully kick things off in 2:56-57, Smith split 47/48, White I'll say 1:50ish conservatively, but 1:47/48 potential, and Cory bringing things home sub 4 and hopefully more like 3:55ish. OSU will be pushed in their heat by Oregon, Minnesota, Penn State, and Princeton. I think the other heat looks a bit stronger, but competition should be good enough to propel the Bucks where they need to be - 9:31.00 is the auto mark.

Other entrants are Nickles and Marshall in the vault, Murdaugh in the 400, Bogle in the 60 Hurdles, McCarty in the Long Jump, White in the 800, Fallon and Sabo in the Mile, and the 4x4.

Very solid meet for OSU at Notre Dame last weekend.

The relays ran absolutely out of this world. On Friday night, the DMR team of Fallon, Smith, White, and Leslie smashed the old school record of 9:47, winning their heat of the DMR in 9:31.71. The heats were supposed to be split evenly, but the second heat looked to be a bit better on paper and did end up running faster, as the 1600 leg in OSUs heat lagged a bit, leaving OSU in a precarious position for nationals. However, things worked out and OSU got the last DMR bid to NCAAs, and looks to have a good shot at scoring, as only 2.5 seconds separates them from the top team.

Not to be outdone, the 4x400 team of Blanks, Smith, Marvel Brooks, and Murdaugh also set a new school record, running 3:06.15 to take 4th and automatically qualify to NCAAs. Monster run.

Thomas Murdaugh also ran extremely well in the open 400, taking 3rd in a time of 46.17 and put him at 7th in the country.

Demoye Bogle also bounced back well in the 60 Hurdles, running a time of 7.80 to take 2nd.

Heath Nickles and Cody Marshall both vaulted, but neither could improve their marks. Same with McCarty in the long jump.

Results are here: http://www.deltatiming.com/results/events_byschedule.aspx?yf=2012&mf=2012-alex-wilson-invitational

Nationals start tomorrow, and the following Buckeyes will be competing:

Distance Medley Relay (Fallon, Smith, White, Leslie)
4x400 Relay (Blanks, Smith, Marvel Brooks, Murdaugh)
Demoye Bogle - 60 Meter Hurdles
Thomas Murdaugh - 400 Meter Dash
Cory Leslie - 1 Mile Run
Matt DeChant - Shot Put, Weight Throw
Max Mays - Weight Throw

If they perform well, all of these entrants should be in the running to score (top 8 finish). I think Leslie has the best chance of everyone to place well (I see potential top 3), but has yet to really perform well at Nationals, so that would be a break through. Good luck to all!

Results so far...

Corey Leslie finished 13th in the prelims of the 1 mile. Time - [SIZE=-1]4:07.61.
Demoye Bogle finished 13th in the prelims of the 60m hurdles. Time - 7.84.
As mentioned above, Thomas Murdaugh qualified for the finals by finishing 7th in the 400m. Time - 46.27. As long as he finishes tomorrow he is assured of placing.

In addition to the results previously posted, the DMR took 8th in 9:38 to earn All American honors. They were sitting in 1st place going into the 1600, but OSU changed their order and had Leslie run the 1200 and put Fallon on 1600 and he couldn't hang on, running a 4:04 split. Not a bad run for Fallon, but he was outclassed by the other anchors. Leslie handed off in second after the 1200, and Smith held that position through the 400. Dan White moved into 1st on the 800 leg.

I partially understand the order switch, as it is imperative in championship races to "stay in the race." Putting Leslie on 1200 ensured OSU would be in it through at least the 800, barring disaster. But if you haven't blown it open it puts the anchor in a very tenuous spot. Here, I think Fallon is good enough that he could have kept OSU in the race on the 1200, Smith and White would have at least held the spot if not improved it a bit, and then let your 3:56 miler do his thing on the anchor. Not sure if the plan was to change the order all along, or if the events of the Mile Prelims had anything to do with it.

Speaking of...

Leslie was in position to easily qualify for the Mile Finals, but was pushed down with less than 100 meters to go. OSU appealed to move him on to the final, but the appeal was denied. It seems that in past meets virtually anytime someone fell they were moved on to the final, but not so here apparently. That's really too bad, because Cory was having a monster season. At least he got on the podium with the DMR.

Really strong performance from DeChant - way to bounce back and great to see. 11th at B1Gs, 8th in the nation.

Bogle ran ok, which is fine for his first national meet. He would have needed to PR to make the finals.

Murdaugh ran well, and for the first time really on a banked 200 track. He has been a beast on flat 200s and ok on oversized, but has seemed to relatively struggle on the 200 banked. Glad to see him virtually guaranteed to be on the podium today.

The 4x400 and Weight guys all have very good chances of making the podium as well. If they do, this will easily be the best OSU team performance at nationals in a long time.

The NCAA Championships are live on ESPN3 right now. I just watched Murdaugh qualify for the finals in the 400m dash... pretty exciting!

The Piggie Men are doing their normal track and field dominating thing. :shake:

I hate those guys.

Jeff Demps is foregoing a try at the NFL for a pro track career. Makes sense. Good luck to y'all today.
