2011-2012 Lady Buckeyes Basketball

Ohio State women's basketball: 6-6 center from Brooklyn ready to sign
By Jim Massie
The Columbus Dispatch Wednesday November 9, 2011

The Ohio State women?s basketball team expects to add at least two and possibly three players today during the opening of the early signing period.

One of those players ? Lisa Blair, a 6-foot-6 center out of Nazareth Regional High School in Brooklyn, N.Y. ? is on the record as saying that she will sign with the Buckeyes.

A source close to the Ohio State program said yesterday that Ameryst Alston, a 5-9 guard and the reigning Ms. Ohio Basketball out of Canton McKinley, intends to sign with the Buckeyes.

A third player, Brianna Butler, a 5-11 guard from Nazareth Regional, has the Buckeyes on her final list of possibilities, along with Kentucky and Syracuse.

Butler, who is ranked the No. 13 prospect in the nation by the ESPN website HoopGurlz, took an official visit to Ohio State last month with Blair.

Another Craft

The Columbus Dispatch
Friday November 11, 2011 7:18 AM

The Ohio State women?s basketball team added an intriguing high-low combination yesterday in its latest recruiting class.

A third player, with family ties to Ohio State, also is coming aboard, possibly as soon as Sunday. But coach Jim Foster could not confirm the person or the possibility until signed paperwork arrives, per NCAA rules.
Her father had no such difficulty.

Caite Craft, the sister of Ohio State sophomore men?s point guard Aaron Craft, is headed to Columbus next season, John Craft said.
She will join a freshman class that already includes Canton McKinley guard Ameryst Alston, who is Ohio?s reigning Ms. Basketball, and 6-foot-6 post Lisa Blair from Brooklyn, N.Y.

The opening for Craft occurred because guard Brianna Butler, a high-school and AAU teammate of Blair?s, chose Syracuse over the Buckeyes on Wednesday. Craft, a senior at Liberty-Benton near Findlay, Ohio, rescinded a commitment to Kent State to seize the late opportunity to play for Ohio State, her father said.

?She understands that she was second-tier,? John Craft said. ?If you?ve seen Aaron play, you know we?re blue-collar/old-school types. This is a chance for her to prove herself. She likes the idea of challenges.?

The Lady Buckeyes are quietly winning ball games and are still undefeated for the year.
Last Night in the B10 ACC challenge they disposed of Fla State. First in the game and then in the bench clearing tussle that ensued.
I don't know which one I am prouder of.....:pimp:
ESPN:

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Tayler Hill had a career-high 31 points, including five in overtime, to lead Ohio State (No. 18 ESPN/USA Today, No. 17 AP) to a 78-75 win against Florida State on Wednesday night in the Big/Ten ACC Challenge.
Hill made a free throw to pull the Buckeyes (6-0) within 75-74 with 59 seconds remaining and then scored the go-ahead layup with 31 seconds to go.

Ohio State, which plays at No. 18 Oklahoma on Sunday, got the ball back when Cierra Bravard was tied up and the possession arrow favored the Buckeyes. Hill hit two foul shots with 14 seconds left and the Seminoles had a chance to tie it, but Alexa Deluzio missed a 3-pointer from the right corner.

The rebound went out of bounds to Florida State (3-5), but Ashley Adams stole the ball and a wild scramble ensued. Both benches emptied at the buzzer, but order was restored.

As much as I admired the quality centers of the past few years I like the more up tempo style - particularly in a ladies game.

That said, I continue to be disappointed with Samantha's refusal to mature. She handles the rock like a pro but manages herself like a Frosh.

Tayler Hill is another matter.

Beach is gonna end up being one hell of a player. She missed some easy shot but she is dripping with talent.

Adams needs to get tougher down low. She missed so bunnies as well.

Stokes is a great defender but needs to work on offense.

Agree.

The ladies team needs more Beaches.

What exactly has Sammy done this year to disappoint you? She's pretty much avoided any kind of problem or outburst for quite some time (really, since the So Miss debacle), the team seems to be very tight and together, she's exhibiting good leadership skills, she's shooting better than ever before and her assist/to ratio is outstanding.

Not much to quibble over as far as I can see.

I echo your sentiments about Tayler - she's a quality player and person and she's playing great ball.

Our Lady Buckeyes went to Norman and came back with a good away win against #18 Oklahoma. Great job Ladies!
Next up is Canisius, Noon ET, Saturday, Dec. 10

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - Ohio State's sizzling start gave the Buckeyes a double-digit cushion that held up even when they finally starting missing shots.
Tayler Hill scored 20 points, Samantha Prahalis added 19 and Ohio State made its first nine shots of the game in a 69-63 win over No. 18 Oklahoma on Sunday in the Big 12/Big Ten Challenge.
Ohio State (7-0) led the whole way in its first road game of the season and finished the toughest part of its nonconference schedule with successive wins over LSU, Florida State and Oklahoma. The Buckeyes are 4-0 all-time against Oklahoma (3-2), which lost its second straight game, having fallen at Vanderbilt on Nov. 26.
Ohio State was up 7-0 before the Sooners took their first shot. The Buckeyes' opening streak included 3-pointers by Hill and Prahalis and staked them to a 23-10 lead less than seven minutes into the game.
"When you have veteran guards, it doesn't matter where you play," Ohio State coach Jim Foster said. "It's not like we haven't played in tough venues. It's not like we haven't played good teams away (from home). It's not a first-time experience for those kids, and our freshmen, they're dumb enough to follow our veteran guards. That makes me happy."
