2010 Winter Olympics tidbits

i chuckled when the commentator said, "look at those athletes sitting low in the sled."

You meant to tell me that somebody who looks like Larry the Cable Guy isn't really an athlete?

I don't really care if they're athletes or not, I was glad to see them win.

what made me chuckle was less about the commentator's use of "athlete" and more about his recognition that the bobsledders were really good at scrunching down.

on a separate note, i think the athlete vs. non-athlete debate is played out.

4-man bobsled gold.

Just imagine how fast they would've gone if all four of them had beards instead of just Holcomb.

Former Gator decathlete Steve Mesler (second from right) was part of the team winning the Gold. :banger:

I'm glad the US winter program has finally gotten the attention and results that the years of hard work some of these athletes have produced.

I mean in Torino it was "They added snowboarding so the US would win something" to winning the medal count.

Excellent job!

I'm not going to look back to see if anybody said anything about this, because I don't feel like it, i'm having a bad day, pissed off about the USA, pissed of about a lot of other things...so this thing pissed me off too...

Why are they singing in French in part of these songs at the ceremonies...and why did they always use French before English when announcing everything during the Olympics?!? I understand that they speak French in Eastern Canadia...but that's 1000s of miles away. In BC, French is the 5th most popular language...behind even Chinese and German. Just speak English...or if you are going to do other languages then do a bunch. French sounds like poop...and don't put it first. France sucks, but Canada sucks, too.

Because French as well as English are the official languages of the Olympics....

Kudos to the organizers for getting Neil Young. Canada has a lot of great music, and up until now they've shown nothing but shit aside from the Leonard Cohen cover two weeks ago.

It's nice to see him showing up those mouseketeers they've had on stage so far. Unlike them, he's singing for real AND playing two instruments.

He was doing a fine Jimmy Fallon impression.
