2010 TSUN offseason arguments & shenanigans

Despite my snarky comments from before, I too share the incredulity regarding their views of RR. Every time something goes wrong (e.g. every talented player bailing on the program as fast as possible), they point their fingers in every direction other than RR. There are always mitigating circumstances, it's always someone else's fault. There's always an explanation - the phases of the moon, the players are lazy, not enough Barwis, whatever. Have they never considered that maybe Rich Rodriguez simply isn't a good football coach? His success has been in DII, CUSA, the Big East, and the ACC...not exactly competitive leagues. I have a feeling that they will never accept this, even after he is fired. There will be some other rationale given.

Note: this does not apply to all UM fans (there are many there who have tried unsuccessfully to fight this stupidity) but rather the most vocal mob on GBW that has been jaded not only by the football struggles but also by the mentality and finger pointing of their board leaders.

The most severe consequence of RR's ineptitude is not only stripping UM fans of their role as big brother, but instilling this little brother complex that has been laughed at by them for most of the last 50 years.

  1. They used to be big brother - who grabbed almost any recruit they wanted, won almost any head to head matchup no matter how bad they sucked for 3 or even 3.5 quarters. They could laugh at Same Ole Sparty, and the fools who believed this year would be different despite the evidence to the contrary.
  2. Beating UM used to be everything to Sparty where it was just another win among 4-5 rivalries and close to the bottom.
  3. Sparty was obsessed with UM year round on their boards, UM only focused their energy largely on OSU & ND, shifting to Sparty infrequently when a player/coach embarrassed themselves on the field or in the police blotter.
  4. They used to understand and mock Sparty's irrelevance in comparison to them, always clamoring for attention, equality & relevance, and yet no one cared about them after September except when their coach would slap himself.
Now that they no longer enjoy supremacy head to head with recruits and games, they've become the embodiment of Mike Hart's denigrating label:

  1. They are now the little brother with false confidence before the results to back it up, only to watch Sparty rip out their hearts in the 4th quarter each year.
  2. Losing to OSU is actually acceptable to many fans as long as they can win 7-8 games and beat sparty. This will mark the third straight year of this. RR's failures have made beating Sparty more crucial than OSU. Not more valuable, but the alternative is more unforgivable and a much more constant obsession.
  3. Sparty is a daily obsession on GBW, easily 3-4x as common of a topic as OSU. Whether it be recruiting, football or just simple smack talk.
  4. They have forgotten who UM & MSU are and who demands attention. Their battered and bitter state has lost sight of this, demanding that national writers focus on Dantonio's game & recruit losses, off-field incidents, and general flaws.

Usually, you would expect that hard times would humble a fanbase. It's hard to believe, but for as unbearable as the domers were during cholly's first two years, they've legitimately mellowed in the past year or two. Sure, there are still a number of them that could annoy a buddhist monk, but by-and-large they've chilled a bit. Not scUM fans. Losing has changed them from arrogant, treacherous bastards to whiny little cry babies. Since the ncaa started poking around in their backyard, an awful lot of them have taken it upon themselves to police every other program and gleefully point out every little thing that they perceive to be a violation of some sort...even when it's not.

Fuck every last swinging dick of them. I wish nothing but pain and misery for them. It's like Lane Kiffen spawned a million Damiens, strapped a block-m hat on them and sat them in front of a keyboard. They deserve every ounce of sadness they've had.

I dont ever remember Ntre Ame fans ever being as bad as scUM fans currently are

at least fat boy got them to BCS Bowls...... even though they were ransacked in them

Rich Rod goes 3-9 and 5-7 and hes the greatest thing since sliced bread

BARWIS!!!!11!!!

Rich Rod can do no wrong

every player who leaves the program is "fat" "lazy" or "couldnt take BARWIS!!!111!!"

every 3 star recruit with MAC and low end BCS offers is the next "enter former star player here"

it is highly entertaining to watch, you gotta feel for the respectable scUM fans though that dont act like the unbearable masses

Yeah, but the fact that they had a sweetheart deal and never had to win a conference certainly tended to slip their minds in January...

don't forget all their sub 4.2 QB recruits can already throw better than Pryor.

Typical s & m thread in the DickRod era:

not_all_in!!!!

...in the afterglow of the nation's #75 OT (with no offers from the FL "Big 3") commitment, poster brings up valid question (in this case, their tendency to recruit kids with a less than stellar offer list), is quickly attacked, SonofHormel douchiness makes an appearance, thread quickly dies off. What a wasteland that place is...

If tOSU was recruiting like they are and scUM was pulling in the recruits we are, I'd be looking for a bridge to jump off of. Everybody gets excited when somebody commits, even lower rated guys because you never know when one will turn out like Laurinaitis or A.J., but they are usually just seasoning to a much bigger dish. 80-90% of their recruits are those kids now. It'll be interesting to see what happens as the season wears on. If they get off to a decent start, they may start drawing more interest from actual power program level kids. But, when they inevitably level off, and DickRod's job security is called further into question, they could really go in the tank even further. If there is a coaching change, I feel bad for the poor sap having to take over what is essentially a Big East team in a rapidly improving power football conference. They are really setting themselves up behind the eightball here.

Rich has pulled kids out of florida and Lloyd couldn't and wouldn't even touch florida, ever.

I like the idea that just because they are pulling kids from Florida it means Rodriguez is a better recruiter than Carr. It is sad when people actually buy into the bullshit that because a kid is from the south it somehow makes them a better football players regardless of other factors.

How many schools across the country pull kids out of Florida that have offers from the Big 3?

Ohio State does almost annually.

They have dived into that pool headfirst. Meanwhile, who have they pulled out of Florida that has actually made them a better football team? How many of those kids would actually see the field in Columbus or at other elite programs around the nation? Florida has, arguably, the deepest talent pool in the country, but a lot of the kids they're pulling in aren't getting any or maybe just cursory looks from the south's big programs. They were celebrating Posada's commit today because it was a win over USF and Texas Tech. They used to compete with tOSU, USC, Florida, etc...it's been said here a million times, he's still recruiting like he's at wvu.

Turner's Future and how that relates to RR/Staff

I think of all of those that left our program for whatever reason (NFL, attitude, playing time, academic, team rules, etc.) Turner's departure should be the most telling.

If he transfers to another D1 and has a very successful career that is very telling.

If he transfers to another D1 and is mediocre-to-does nothing that would be very telling.

If he transfers to a non-D1 for football that is very telling.

If he never plays football again that also would be very telling.

I'm not sure how much affect this will have on RR's tenure at UM, his success in continuing to recruit Ohio, etc., as this fall's W/L record will decide most of that. However I think Turner's future will be very interesting with regard to RR and his staff and how they manage a program.

What the fuck does this even mean?

I think he is trying to lay the ground work to say that maybe, just maybe, their coach is an idiot that doesn't know what the hell he is doing. JT Turner doing well somewhere else would be proof of that.

The fan base being so idiotic and completely unwilling to accept that Rodriguez is a huge fuck up is why he had to word the idea so awkwardly.
