2010 TSUN News offseason (football)

Word on gbw is that it is no longer a race for #1 QB, but more of a competition for #2. I'll be watching for a forceitin.com transfer "press release" before too much longer...

Which will be interesting if Richrod gets canned after this year. What if Michigan hires a coach that is more of a west coast guy? What if tate transfers this year or before the 2011 season? Will Denard be used like Antonio Bass when he was at Michigan. Will Gardner become the starting QB next year if Tate isn't here? Will be interesting to watch.

Not if but when in my opinion.

That's why RR was such a dangerous/desperate hire. It's going to take another three years to undo the recruiting damage that has been done at UM.

That's why the next coach needs 4-5 years instead of this 3 year crap. Especially if he is a Pro offense or west coast guy. Then Michigan can start recruiting like they used to and grab the top qbs, wrs, and big o-line guys around the country like they used to. Of course it will be harder since it's a down period for Michigan but it is a start. Who knows.......new coach might come in and win right off the bat. Very unlikely, but never underestimate the power of coaching.

Which is the point many of us have been bringing up. The big danger in the next hire is that you guys are committed to him no matter what for a minimum of 5 years, 3-4 of which will be spent undoing the RR slot dot recruiting mess. If the next guy is just good or anything short of a home run the program will be looking at a solid decade of sub standard performance.

ND went through how many guys after Holtsh? Even though I think they found a winner this time, the jury is still out. Successive bad hires happen quite frequently before the savior is found. RR might just be your Bob Davie and you still have Ty and fat Charlie to go.

All of which, of course, just breaks my heart.

There has been a tangible difference in mood from m*ch*g*n's largest volume sunshine dealer in the past week or two. After months of talking how big and fast everyone was, how they were stacked at the skill positions, how they had improved on defense, how rr is finally starting to get "his players", the beav is now bemoaning how thin they are at some critical spots, how lackluster the recruiting has been (a major shift from previous opinions), how there is some discord amongst he team. I wonder if reality is truly setting in and he sees that this just isn't a very good football team again. That losing your best running backs and three best defensive players off of an already wretched defense doesn't necessarily make you better...

Reality setting in over at mgoblog Re: Le Le Lu It...

Dorsey difficulty. Premium article, but the bit that's relevant($) is small:
What about Demar Dorsey and Jordan Campbell? Louisville officials gave no formal update on either player, though InsideTheVille.com confirmed that Dorsey is not on campus yet.
If Louisville is having a hard time getting him through, all conspiracy theories about admissions doing anything other than what they had do can go out the window. RR should never have gone after Dorsey; hopefully Michigan's pursuit of him didn't cost them Tony Grimes or Sean Parker.
Heh.

One last time...

I think even a pro style or west coast guy should be able to take the pieces and turn them into winning seasons though, 7 or 8 wins. While you might give them 4-5 years to get to what's expected at Michigan (10 wins+BCS bowl) I don't care how young the players are they shouldn't be bottom feeding in the Big Ten when you recruit the type of athletes that Michigan does

I was hoping that RR would some how manage 6 wins and hold on another year. The hole in AA would be even deeper and with USC's troubles, Harbaugh might then chose several years on top of the Pac 10 rather then come back to coach the rodents.

Have you seen our recruiting class this year so far? The past few recruiting classes have been ok.....but this year is just pathetic so far. I'm not trying to bash the players that are coming in. I think the one thing is that they seem to do well in the classroom and seem like outstanding young men. Players that will work hard and stay out of trouble. However, most of these guys don't have big time offers and are MAC/ C-USA type players. I haven't followed recruiting this year but it's not looking good. Michigan is not in a good position to even land a DT. Only one running back is interested in Michigan and that is D.Hart. No big time wrs are showing interest. All the qbs we have offered are already commited somewhere else. The o-line doesn't have a headliner. I know Hobbi from Arizona would be a huge get because he is regarded as one of the best guards in the country. Other than that it's not great. Brennan Meyer is a nice get. Still can't nab a linebacker and let Lawrence Thomas get away. How the fuck do we let Gholston and Thomas get away is beyond me. D-backs we have a couple coming in. This class is shaping up to be one of the worst in recent memory on paper.
