2010 TSUN News offseason (football)

He's still not been particularly healthy and hasn't cracked the two deep yet as far as I know. They screwed up not RS'ing him last year. IMO, if he's seeing significant playing time, they're in even more trouble that we thought because that means multiple others are hurt or have failed...also, the much ballyhooed JT Turner isn't exactly wowing anybody. He may just be a late bloomer, but after all the crowing about him as a recruiting "win" over tOSU and the hype that followed him, he's gotta be looked at as a disappointment thus far. Probably doesn't help that rr and his genius staff continue to try to play him at CB when he's clearly a safety...

Just wait for Turner to get another year in under Barwis. Then he'll be crazy good. And RR is still weeding out the scrubs from Carr. That cupboard was really empty. With the recruiting he's doing, I see a possible BCS bowl and win over Ohio State.

Book it!

Turner needs to be moved to safety, but with the depth issues at corner he is going to have to stay their until the season is over. Some kids just take awhile to adapt to the college game, as for Vlad the injury was not the only thing holding him back last year he had some off the field issues as well.

Demar Dorsey, rejected by U-M, still not signed at Louisville

The Detroit News

Four-star recruit Demar Dorsey, who signed with Michigan's 2010 freshman class in February but was denied admission last month, still has an unsettled college future.

Dorsey, a defensive back out of Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., was expected to sign with the University of Louisville, but the Louisville Courier-Journal reported Friday that has not yet happened.

The paper reported that Louisville has confirmed recruiting Dorsey, but he has not yet signed.

Shame. My thoughts may be misplaced, but I've still thought fondly of Vlad even in light of going to Michigan.

I did as well until I read about Vlad calling Tressel and the staff all liars.

edit - Maybe im crazy but I looked and couldnt find the statement I thought I read of Vlad calling the OSU staff liars....My apologies if it didnt happen

It wasn't exactly the breakout spring Vladimir Emilien had in mind - a knee injury and Cam Gordon's emergence at free safety made sure of that.

But Emilien walked away from Michigan's spring game Saturday '90 percent' healthy and confident better days are ahead.

"Everything's slowed down to me now," Emilien said. "I'm playing just like I was in high school. Last year, everything was going fast for me. This year, everything's slowed down. I'm feeling a little confident. I think I can play with the big leagues."

Penciled in as Michigan?s starting free safety at the start of spring practice, Emilien sprained his left knee trying to tackle Tate Forcier on the first day of pads.

Trying? Forcier? We're talking scary good defense, just like high school. :slappy:

You can't make this stuff up.

Someone needs to tell Vlad that everything/everyone has slowed down except for Roundtree on that 80+ yard slant...[censored] I heard hes still running.

All part of the plan. RichRod's offense needs to practice against a awful defense to build confidence. His Willy Wonka factory wouldn't be as happy if they were to get tackled or have a broken up pass.

Unfortunately, Michigan isn't on Michigan's schedule this year.

Much expected of Wolverines' Vincent Smith

Tailback is a big question for Michigan.
One player could be the answer, but his health is uncertain. Sophomore tailback Vincent Smith is coming off ACL surgery from an injury suffered against Ohio State.
U-M coach Rich Rodriguez said in the spring that Smith's progress has been steady and, last month, running backs coach Fred Jackson was even more optimistic.
"I can tell you one thing: He's really put on muscle mass," Jackson said. "I'm not saying he weighs a lot more, but I'm hoping he's 100% and he can be an outstanding back for us.
"The trainers said he's ahead of schedule; he's more advanced than they thought he would be at this point. The more I talked to him, the more I thought he fully intends to do everything and be ready to go when we start camp."
With training camp expected to begin the second week of August, Smith might be asked to take on a big role quickly.
Even with only 48 carries for 276 yards and one touchdown in his freshman year, he is one of the most experienced backs on the roster.
"When he comes back, he's going to take the other guys' game and elevate it, because he wasn't there in the spring to make them better," Jackson said of Smith, who was listed at 5-foot-6 and 169 pounds last year. "He's a talented guy."
He's a unique tailback because he's on the small side but runs between the tackles and isn't known for his speed.
"His ability to make you miss in small spaces," Jackson said about his favorite Smith trait. "I've got guys who can make you miss after you've run 10 yards. He's a (Tim Biakabutuka) guy who, once he starts, doesn't have to be full-speed to make you miss. (Blocking) is what scares me about him because he tried to put 180 pounds on a 240-pound linebacker. He's got to learn different angles and blocking."
