2010 TSUN News offseason (football)

Epic Quote:
Lloyd Carr confident U-M will 'correct any concerns' | detnews.com | The Detroit News

? Morgan Trent, former U-M cornerback, played one year under Rodriguez: "I'm not surprised because I know what happened, and I know what kind of rules were broken. I couldn't see how they were going to get out of that.
"Whatever steps need to be taken (to restore Michigan's winning tradition), I'm all for it. What is happening right now obviously is not working. I don't know how long they're going to let this last until changes are made. This year is going to be the tell-all what's going to happen. We can't have three losing years in a row. Not at Michigan. To lose seven of last eight games (in 2009) is an embarrassment."

? Bike Hart, Michigan all-time leading whiner/rusher: "I don't know what the NCAA infractions committee is going to say, but even if it's small, it is never good, especially at the University of Michigan. We don't want to be seen like that. We have to get through this. Hopefully the punishment won't be bad, and we continue to win football games and move on."
Bikey just doesn't quite live in reality, does he?

Rich Rod is on the clock - CBSSports.com
With one sentence Michigan's incoming athletic director put Rich Rodriguez on notice.

"Rich Rodriguez is our football coach, and he will be our football coach next year," David Brandon said Tuesday.

Next year.

At this point, anything past that has to be considered gravy for Rich Rod. The NCAA notice of allegations came down on Monday and, well, let's just say things didn't go well. In fact the results were so distressing that a guy who hasn't even taken office yet (Brandon) is putting a cap on Rich Rod's Michigan career.

Next
year.

There wasn't much code to break in Brandon's statement after Michigan received its NCAA report card regarding those
alleged practice-time violations. Rich, what Brandon was trying to say was it would be a good idea to go to a bowl next season. At least. And along the way it would be an equally good idea to give the boys a few months off -- just to even things up.

As if you needed to be reminded, the Detroit Free Press nailed it when it detailed the widespread abuse of the NCAA's 20-hour work week.

Now it's on Rich Rod first and Michigan second. It's clear that the losing has to end in 2010. Brandon didn't have to tell us that. Michigan wasn't going to wait much longer especially after Rodriguez dragged the school's name through the NCAA mud. Now it's just a matter of how many wins it will take for Rodriguez to save his job.

Eight? Seven? Six? Ten?

It's too much to take being embarrassed by the Big Ten on the field and by the coaching staff off of it.

The NCAA which likely will hear Michigan's side of things at the August committee on infractions hearing. (Preview: "We're sooooo sorry) By the end of the year we could have two monsters of the game both on probation, Michigan along with USC.

Lane Kiffin will keep his job, perhaps shy a few scholarships. But the pressure is ramped up on Rodriguez times 10. After winning eight games in two seasons, I'm not sure he can win the six it will take just to get to a bowl game.

It doesn't matter what I think, though. Rodriguez' boss just spelled out the terms of his future employment. No code-breaking needed.

remember a few years ago when they weren't willing to have a 3 loss season. now that line has changed to 3 losing seasons in a row.

not that RR has single handedly reduced their entire program to a fraction of what it once was or anything....

That is the biggie. There are a lot of minor infractions out there and every team commits something to some degree. The False and misleading info could be the gasoline on the fire and will hurt Michigan.

This is the real beauty in this entire situation. Many of your brethren turned up their noses at everybody else because m*ch*g*n "didn't have to do things like everybody else" (or were at least smart enough to not get caught). Well, you went out and hired a hilljack who isn't smart enough to not get caught.

As much as I would love to see the hammer come down on this, ultimately the rules are in place to prevent one team from gaining a competitive advantage.

There is clear evidence that this did not happen.

On the contrary - according to the new federal guidelines, their extra practices have "created or saved" 8 wins over the last two years.

Made my way over to gbw to read my favorite comedic scribe's take on all of this. He's spent months assuring the crowd over there that absolutely nothing was going to come from this. He's like the pied piper over there. People follow his word blindly...despite the fact his rr-agenda dwarfs any anti-rr-agenda out there. Well, he's spent the day talking everyone off the ledge. He continues to insist that it's about practices that ran 15 minutes too long (damn stretching!) and punishment for poor academic performance. I, as usual tried to bait him with something...the grad assistants questionable testimony and the citation that Dick "doesn't foster an atmosphere of compliance". He pulled the typical Beaver move...ignore the tough question/answer the fluff. Personally, I don't think anything major will come of all this other than adding more heat to Dicks seat, but it's a PR black eye and it's fun watching these fucksticks squirm.

Oh, and he's still projecting Miller, DePriest and Tanner as a part of their class. Tom Beaver, the world's highest volume sunshine dealer.

The reports yesterday said that David Brandon will be taking over as AD on March 8th. That's about 6 months earlier than the schedule mentioned when he was hired, which was around Labor Day.

In the video of the press conference, it looked to me like Mary Sue Coleman, after saying, "What we wil not do is make excuses" was leaning in close toward RichRod when he was speaking, ready to pounce on him if he started saying something that sounded like an excuse. He did manage to say that "We're looking at it to see why we misinterpreted", which seemed to edge in that direction.

He's on extremely thin ice.
