2010 TSUN News offseason (football)

Denard Robinson; the next Chris Gamble? Certainly has the speed and agility to play corner, but could he come up and stop the run? They're going to have to find some talent on the O side to play on the D side.
They already have two former offensive players who are in line for playing time on defense: LB Moundros (FB) and CB Teric Jones (TB)...Denard is the current odds on favorite to get a lionshare of the snaps at QB, so I don't see how they could possibly expect him to play D as well. Hell, any player moving from offense to defense this late in the game is pretty much pointless. They're better off going with the raw freshman and walkons who have at least been repping there. They're screwed either way.

Their only hope at this point is that the offense can outscore what the D is going to give up. Even if the O is stellar this year (I'm waiting to see if shoelaces has learned to read a real defense and if they have a decent enough RB before I'm convinced that'll happen), their uptempo offense will still result in a lot of three and outs and/or fast scoring drives. That's been the issue. Even when they are scoring, the defense still isn't getting enough rest and in a physical conference, they just wear down. Before Woolfolk went down, I thought they had a shot at 7-8 wins (maybe), now relying on so much youth in the secondary, I think their best hope is a 6-6 season. The guy starting opposite Woolfolk (JT  Floyd) got pantsed regularly last year when he played and he's now their "best" CB. After him, you have C. Christian, a decent prospect, but not ready to step in and see major minutes IMO. Terrance Talbot, an undersized sleeper frosh. Courtney Avery, another midget/project recruit who apparently has conditioning issues and a couple of walkons. Oh, and former WR James Rogers. On a real team, Talbott, Avery and maybe even Christain red shirt. Unless Cullen Christian can play like an upperclass Leon Hall or Marlin Jackson as a true frosh, this is a major blow no matter how anybody tries to spin it.

CB recruiting - Touch the Banner | mgoblog

Overall, that's nine potential cornerbacks who are either playing other positions (Michael Williams, Denard Robinson) or no longer on the team. I can't blame Lloyd Carr or Rodriguez for most of those position changes and such. However, the handling of the cases of Adrian Witty, Demar Dorsey, and Conelius Jones should come into question now. Why were those three allowed to sign Letters of Intent if they weren't qualified? At such an important position - and one in such dire need - Rodriguez couldn't afford to hand out scholarships to kids who would never play a down for Michigan. He did anyway. I hope I'm wrong, but this could be a major failure of the Rodriguez regime at Michigan.

It's amazing. If you pointed out something this obvious to a UM fan, they'd flip out at you. But when they point out the obvious, it's some kind of sage wisdom. I simply don't know what else could happen to make it more apparent that RR has no idea how to effectively manage a football team. His recruiting and compliance are a trainwreck, he apparently doesn't pay any attention to little things like "can this kid read well enough to get admitted?". His player development is piss poor, he's alienating the team and driving off talent, and he's losing games in droves.

Even if you assume that he's a great offensive coach when it comes to X's and O's (and maybe he is, I have no idea), he's clearly a terrible head coach. I don't think this is rock bottom for them, though, because they're dead set on giving this guy 4-5 years to see if it works out. It's only going to get worse from here.

He won't make it to the Holidays if they don't win at least 7 games. Another loss to Sparty bumps that number up, and if they're humiliated by tOSU and/or ND, there may be no saving him.

The way I see it, Richrod has only two ways he can keep his job: Fairie Dust and Unicorn Poop.

Everybody knows that Unicorn Poop is completely incompatible with bullshit, so he's going to have to cut the bullshit if he wants to go that route. I don't see that happening.

As for Fairie Dust, it's been known to cause hair plugs to fall out. I don't think he's that desperate.

Face it, we'll only have one more season of Richrod. It was fun while it lasted.

Too bad that magnificent bastard Bill Martin wasn't still around. I am sure he would find the excuses necessary to keep Rod around for at least a few more years. After all, it is not his fault that he recruits kids that can't pass admissions (clearly admissions fault), it is not his fault players get hurt (honestly that is not his fault), it is not his fault he alienates his players and creates a fractured locker room (that is Tate and whoever else doesn't have wangs fault).

Hall of Shame.

You say all that as if it's a bad thing. I think he should get an extension.
