They already have two former offensive players who are in line for playing time on defense: LB Moundros (FB) and CB Teric Jones (TB)...Denard is the current odds on favorite to get a lionshare of the snaps at QB, so I don't see how they could possibly expect him to play D as well. Hell, any player moving from offense to defense this late in the game is pretty much pointless. They're better off going with the raw freshman and walkons who have at least been repping there. They're screwed either way.
Their only hope at this point is that the offense can outscore what the D is going to give up. Even if the O is stellar this year (I'm waiting to see if shoelaces has learned to read a real defense and if they have a decent enough RB before I'm convinced that'll happen), their uptempo offense will still result in a lot of three and outs and/or fast scoring drives. That's been the issue. Even when they are scoring, the defense still isn't getting enough rest and in a physical conference, they just wear down. Before Woolfolk went down, I thought they had a shot at 7-8 wins (maybe), now relying on so much youth in the secondary, I think their best hope is a 6-6 season. The guy starting opposite Woolfolk (JT
Floyd) got pantsed regularly last year when he played and he's now their "best" CB. After him, you have C. Christian, a decent prospect, but not ready to step in and see major minutes IMO. Terrance Talbot, an undersized sleeper frosh. Courtney Avery, another midget/project recruit who apparently has conditioning issues and a couple of walkons. Oh, and former WR James Rogers. On a real team, Talbott, Avery and maybe even Christain red shirt. Unless Cullen Christian can play like an upperclass Leon Hall or Marlin Jackson as a true frosh, this is a major blow no matter how anybody tries to spin it.
