Let's see, holding is annoying, chopping a leg intentionally can end a guy's playing career and perhaps cripple him for life. Yep, they're almost the same. :roll2:

BTW, offensive linemen hold all the time. Should defenses intentionally go for their knees, too?

Do you hear that loud whooshing sound? Do you know what that is?

Beaver's not going to like this

He will just skip to the last paragraph and use the cupboard is bare excuse.

"It's a combination of poor recruiting, in my opinion, I think coach (Lloyd) Carr (who retired after the 2007 season), to be perfectly honest, left the cupboard bare in his last few years. I don't think they recruited the talent because you look at the upperclassmen that they have. They're all great kids. I had a chance to meet with a bunch of them. They practice hard, they play hard, and they're tough, but it comes down to one thing when you're talking about playing at a high level like Michigan is used to playing at, and that's talent. And they have zero on defense. One kid, the Martin kid. Other than that, a lot of guys would be nice little subs at Indiana."

Carr did leave leave the cupboard bare to certain extent. It still shouldn't be this bad and RR's defensive recruiting is a lot worse.

I like Spielman and he is just being honest. Most Wolverines/fans respect the guy.

he already found Pat White. Now all he needs is Steve Slaton.

and for Ohio State, Iowa, and Wisconsin to leave the conference.

Alternate plan: He could leave the conference, join the MAC, go undefeated, cry like Boise State that scUM's undefeated and should play in the BCS Championship game.

Dave Brandon relishes keeping U-M great

Lynn Henning / The Detroit News

Ann Arbor? He looks 10 years younger than his chronological age, and many pounds lighter than the stereotypical athletic director, whose past profile suggested someone who had been hitting a steady stream of alumni banquets.
You wonder how Dave Brandon does it. The 58-going-on-48 part of it, anyway. He might occasionally eat, but the University of Michigan's chief athletics officer is so wired to his job that pillows are apparently regarded as an NCAA infraction.

Cont...
Brandon steers clear of making any comments about Rodriguez, or potential replacements. But his big-picture view is clear and vibrant.
"If you want to coach here, you've got to understand the expectations are very high," he said. "There are not a whole lot of things our coaches long for here. You come here, and we give you a lot of tools.
"We expect to compete, and we want to have a program that regularly competes for championships.
"If there is progress, we continue to invest in the program. If you wake up and see that we're moving sideways, and you don't see a clear path to success, that's when you think about making changes."

But there is not a hint of pessimism, of dissatisfaction, of we'll-wait-and-see in the athletic director's view of the man who three years ago arrived from West Virginia as Tommy Amaker's replacement.
"John Beilein is, I think, the perfect guy for the University of Michigan," said Brandon
"He is chairman of the NCAA ethics committee, and he will abide by the rules even to the detriment of wins and losses.
"John Beilein is a stand-up guy. He is a winner, and he's going to be a winner here. He's just got to get the athletes to win championships."
