2010 TSUN News (in-season)

HA!

And assuming that Illinois takes care of business this weekend, like the enitre football planet is expecting... The game on November 13th with Purdue will have some MAJOR stakes for Michigan. They could (should?) roll into West Lafayette with a four game losing streak and 5-4 overall record. Obviously, they close with two tough games against Wisky and Ohio State...

They will need to find one more win to get to a bowl, right? Let's go, Boilers!

My early Xmas wishlist:

-After a collective 9-0 start to the 2009 and 2010 seasons, which gave fans dreams of top 25 finishes, bowl games and Heisman Trophies, TSUN limps home to a record of 0-14 vs. FBS opponents missing out on going bowling for the third consecutive year.

As was said above. Go Boilermakers!

In those 2 seasons, TSUN's only wins vs. FBS teams from outside the states of Indiana and m1ch1gan are against UConn and Bowling Green. So UConn is the only BCS-AQ* team from outside the state of Indiana that they've beaten in that time.

BCS-AQ* refers to:
  • Teams in BCS-AQ conferences, who automatically qualify for a BCS bowl by winning a conference championship
  • Notre Dame, who automatically qualifies for a BCS bowl by showing the ability to fog a mirror
Other accomplishments that TSUN is in the running for:
  • First TSUN team to give up 30 or more points in more than 4 straight games (a record set last year)
  • First TSUN team to give up 30 or more points in more than 7 games in a season (a record set last year)

I would almost be just as happy watching them play in the Little Caesars Pizza bowl against the winner of the MAC. Although it's not likely Michigan would be able to fall that far with 2 Big Ten teams pretty much assured to play in BCS games

I dunno, they may have to have a playoff game with ND to decide who goes to Little Caesar's.

Is the 3-3-5 the source of Michigan's defensive woes? Brandon Graham thinks so
Amid the growing concern about the team?s beleaguered defense, on pace to allow a school-record 360 points this season, Graham voiced support for defensive coordinator Greg Robinson.

But last year's first-round draft pick of the Philadelphia Eagles said the team?s new 3-3-5 defense is part of the problem.

?It?s tough to see the boys struggling, knowing that Michigan, for all them years, was prided on defense,? he said. ?They just have to find that niche. The 3-3-5, I don?t think it?s a good look, especially for the type of stuff we see in the Big Ten.?

Graham has watched the Wolverines' games this fall and spent his NFL off week visiting friends and resting in Ann Arbor. He said it was a mistake for the team to switch to its fourth defensive system in as many seasons.

?I?m surprised they didn?t stick with what Coach Robinson was running,? Graham said of the 3-4 the team deployed in 2009, its first year under Robinson.

Instead, coaches turned toward the 3-3-5 after the defense finished that season allowing an average of 393.3 yards per game.
Robinson had run a version of the 3-3-5 as a member of the New York Jets coaching staff in 1994, but Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez had run it recently at West Virginia and felt more comfortable with that defense.

?Let Coach Robinson play his defense,? Graham said. ?Let him do what he knows. He was thrown off, I would say. I know the 3-3-5 is what he (Rodriguez) has been doing for so long. He?s just got to adjust to the Big Ten.?
?I think Coach Robinson is real good,? he said. ?He was somebody who really tried to teach you the game. ?These are why we?re calling these plays or these blitzes now.??

Graham said his concerns were purely schematic.

?You?ve got to have four down linemen. You?ve got to,? he said. ?Or five. You?ve got to stop them holes, and you got to get to the quarterback. You got to trust the cornerbacks are going to do their job.?
For his part, Rodriguez, whose team faces Illinois on Saturday (noon, ESPN) said the scheme is overrated.

?The scheme itself has had success against a lot of good football teams,? he said. ?But it?s the execution of schemes. We?ve got to execute the right way.?
If the scheme is overrated:
1) Why do you keep shoving it down your coordinators' throats?
2) Why does a very bad defense get worse when it is implemented? (Purdue 08, all of 2010 season)
?I don?t have any grand, magic wands to wave,? Rodriguez said Tuesday. ?We?re all trying as hard as we can.?
He has simplified the defense as much as possible to accommodate the learning curve of the many freshmen. He has made changes in the starting lineup, promoting Kenny Demens at middle linebacker and Ray Vinopal at safety. He?s switched players? positions, moving Carvin Johnson to safety, Cam Gordon to linebacker and Quinton Washington to defensive tackle.
I'm not sure that's a very good way to simplify things, but at least you figured out after three years that Ezeh should not be starting.

Iftsun can find a way to win against Illinois, Purdue and some how pick off Wisconsin I think RR keeps his job and quite frankly, as a Buckeye, that's what I want. Ten more years of ass beatings.

If all three of those wins don't happen just find a way to beat Wisconsin. Thanks.

TSUN had 1 year added to their probation, but the charge that RichRod "failed to promote an atmosphere of compliance" (the one charge of the 5 major allegations that they fought) was reduced to a "failure to monitor the details".

I'm not sure whether this will allow TSUN to fire RichRod and not pay any of his $4 million buyout.

CBS

NCAA adds year to Michigan's self-imposed probation

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The NCAA on Thursday handed Michigan a third year of probation for practice and training violations, declining to sharply punish Rich Rodriguez or his program for an embarrassing problem that cropped up just a few days before last season.

Rodriguez, who is 13-19 in his third season with the Wolverines, had been charged with failing to promote an atmosphere of compliance in the program -- a serious allegation with serious penalties -- but the NCAA reduced that charge to a failure to monitor the details.

The lower charge was "more appropriate," said Paul Dee, chair of the Division I infractions committee.

"He was cleared with respect to the failure to promote-the-atmosphere [allegation]," he said. "Some of the things that did occur did not get all the way to the coach."

The NCAA ordered Rodriguez to attend a rules seminar but otherwise said the school had punished itself appropriately.
Michigan announced in May that its self-imposed sanctions included probation for two years and reducing training time by 130 hours over two years, doubling the amount of time the Wolverines exceeded NCAA rules.

Cont'd ...

I think personally Rich Rod might be trying to get fired on purpose to get that $4 million buy out. He made $2.5 million last year. Everybody may be laughing at him, supporting him, etc etc. I bet what he is thinking......"at least I'm getting paid suckers."

Well yeah if he got all 3 he'd be more then set, 8 wins + a chance at another in a bowl game was pretty much what most rational fans were hoping for at best right? I'd imagine he'd be set with just 2 more wins

I just hope the Tot comes in and rallies them to a win over Wiscy.

Lol, I was just referring to the fact that the Little Caesars Bowl would be the 9th slot if we see 2 teams in the BCS and we're not likely to get 9 teams bowl eligible..and Mich would still prolly get the nod over a 6-6 purdue or indiana if 1 of those teams can get to that mark in an earlier bowl. I almost think it would be a bigger moral downer to go up against a Mac school in a bowl game then to not make one if your a U of M fan..especially if you end up getting beat in a virtual home game.

I never thought I would live to see the scenario that may unfold next week.

Michigan fans across the country huddled around their televisions watching the final seconds tick off to secure a Michigan victory over Purdue. High fives exchanged. Cries of joy.

Hurray!! Hurray!! We are going to a bowl game!

Clueless as to what has happened to them and their program.

They are getting the third job interview for a spot at McDonald's. The fat chick at the bar has agreed to go home with them. For the first time in three years they are Bowl eligible.

Hurray indeed.

I love it!
