2010 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

When it comes to early offers on in-state recruits, I'm going to believe in the analysis of OSU's coaches above anyone elses. Rightly or wrongly, I simply assume that when it comes to in-state kids, OSU's guys know them best...and better than anyone else. Not that they'll always be right...

Moore's offer carries more weight (as you put it) with me than Guiton's because it came so early and he was an in-state kid...as opposed to a last minute offer after Boyd (and I think a kid that went to Miami Ohio...Austin Boucher) rebuffed the OSU staff.

IMO early offers like Moore's indicates the staff is sold on the recruit and a super late offer like Guiton's after very little contact means the staff will 'take a shot' on a kid because, in this case, they realized they needed a QB of some kind...almost any kind.

Right....I think the coaching staff took a shot with Boyd when Tennessee let him go. They missed on Boyd and then Pryor was hurt in the Bowl game. They then realized they needed to move on a qb and got one in Guiton.

They needed a QB regardless. 2 scholarship QB's just isn't enough.

Me too...I'm not really questioning the staff's approach, as I think the right guys have the offers as of now (minus Alex Smith). They recruit Ohio great. I was just saying that there is a chance we could swing and miss on some key guys, and then be too late on other talents. Not our fault if it happens and that is the way recruiting can go, but I'm just hoping we somehow pull 2 of Ware, James, and Hicks. I feel we get James and Ware but miss on Hicks, just a hunch. OOS things seem to be moving slowly but we'll just have to wait and see. A commit from Montana could be huge to get the ball rolling on some other guys.

I think we are being more selective with offers this year, and our success from the last couple of years have allowed the coaches to take some chances. The lines look deep, and we have a bunch of speedsters on the team. As long as we get a solid QB I'm happy with this class.

Tharinger.com is reporting that OSU is in the final four for an athlete named Jared Haggins. I've never heard the name in connection with OSU before.

http://www.tharinger.com/Recruiting.aspx

Lakeland(FL) ATH Jared Haggins is closing in on a decision and could announce as early as Friday. The final four for the 6'0" QB/DB prospect are USF, Ohio State, FSU, and Louisville. South Florida and Louisville are recruiting him at QB, FSU at ATH, and OSU at DB. I'm fairly confident he'll choose FSU, but USF could be a dark horse.

But if I remember correctly, he was being seriously considered by Oklahoma, Texas, Nebraska, and others... The big name schools just happened to pick up big name QBs before Kenny got the offers.

It appears 2 new offers went out today. This is becoming a zany year for recruiting. We only have 18 ships to give at this point, and we already have 5 commits. At least 6 others are looking really good, which would bring us to eleven. Summer camp is coming up and something called a high school football season is months away.

So you are saying I'm not allowed to panic yet?
