2010 tOSU Offensive Line Discussion

Maybe a little too early to be predicting opening day starters but I'd like to see:

LT - ADAMS
LG - BOREN
C - BREWSTER
RG - BROWNING
RT - SHUGARTS

With the LT spot being vacated by the departure of Jim Cordle, it could be any number of the other guys stepping up in 2010 Marcus Hall, Josh Kerr, Andrew Miller, Corey Linsley?, Sam Longo? even an incoming Frosh.

The guard spots I'm wondering who'll be filling in the 2 deep. In no particular order: Connor Smith, Evan Blankenship, Jack Mewhort who else? Andrew Moses was a 5th yr senior I think. I'm not real sure who else is left unless some of the guys I listed as OT are actually OG...

I love the potential of this talented group top to bottom. After the shuffling that went on in 2009 (mostly due to injuries) it could be any number of combinations throughout the year but one thing is for certain: having 13 or 14 guys pushing for PT can only make this group better as a whole.

If I had to guess for the 2nd string:

LT: ? I'm not sure about this one
LG: Longo
C: Mewhort
RG: Linsley
RT: Hall

Guard for Norwell. Same with James.

I doubt Kerr factors into the battle, but Hall-Adams-Miller (& Henderson?) will be a good battle. Adams can run away with it if he wants it.

My guess:
LT: Miller, Adams
LG: Boren, Linsley
C: Brewster, Mewhort
RG: Browning, Smith
RT:Shuarts, Hall

Note: Norwell could compete for the LT spot, as well as Henderson. I was really impressed with Miller though and I don't think anyone is beating him out his senior year.

10 Things We Learned About the Offensive Line in 2009
By Brandon Castel

10. Mike Adams was not the third best player in the class of 2008. Sorry to break it to you, but I?ve seen Adams up close and if he?s the third best player from that recruiting class (which is where he was ranked by Rivals.com) then the rest of that class should be ashamed of itself. In fact, I can name two guys from that recruiting class with more talent who play on the same college team as Adams.

When I think of offensive linemen rated that highly, I think of guys like Eugene Monroe and Andre Smith, guys who played early and starred throughout their entire college career. That?s not to say Adams can?t become a good football player, or even a solid left tackle, but it?s going to take some hard work on his part and some solid coaching on the part of Jim Bollman and John Peterson. That might be too much to ask for, but that?s what it?s going to take. Oh yeah, and the clock is ticking.

Offensive line taking shape. With Adams on the first group, the offensive line went LT Adams, LG Justin Boren, C Michael Brewster, RG Bryant Browning and RT J.B. Shugarts across the front. Shugarts in particular seems to have made a drastic physical transformation in the offseason. He looks huge. Not fat, but built. After that group, the second team went LT Andrew Miller, LG Connor Smith, C Jack Mewhort, RG Corey Linsley and RT Marcus Hall. Miller seems to have gained back the weight he lost from the flu last year as he looked to be about 295-300 pounds. The third group was LT Sam Longo, LG Chris Malone, C Scott Sika, RG Evan Blankenship and RT Josh Kerr.
