I agree with the above comments. However, the one thing I noticed as I watched the game last night was how good Oregon's kick return game was. We've had trouble this season on kick coverage and this could throw a bit of a wrench into our field position game. Any thoughts? Go Bucks!

How about squib it or...the super high corner kick? Furthermore, I hope the defense puts a variety of differnt spies on Masoli...rotating betweem Rolle, Homan, and Coleman...do that and I like our chances...:oh:

True, but Oregon has also handled solid rushing attacks in Cal and Oregon State.

I share in your concerns regarding our kick coverage (mainly kickoffs) and our punting. Punt coverage has been pretty good but the punting has been hit and miss and it's really hurt us in the field position game this year. Hopefully Thoma will have the game of his life...

Positive side is that they have an entire month to work on it....

Well, nothing is garaunteed. But I think we are a more power running team, like Stanford than we are like Cal or Oregon State..

My point is that the way to beat Oregon is to be successful running the ball against them...

I had never heard Bruce Hooley until today. 1080 the Fan out of Portland had him on. Now, I had read the thread on him last week, because I had seen his name somewhere and didn't have any familiarity.

Needless to say, he was a very poor representation of a sports media person supposedly representing a team. He dogged the Buckeyes, the Big Ten, Terrelle Pryor, and the coaches. It was amazing (in a bad way). I took a quick moment to call up the station while he was on, and Jason Swygard (show director) answered the phone. I said, "Hi. I don't have much time, but I just wanted to mention that Bruce Hooley isn't even respected in Columbus. He's a negative hack with nothing much positive to say. Thanks." He chuckled, and thanked me for the call.

I see a similar style team to scUM. Just with more talent and experience. Masoli throws it into bad spots like Clarke and "Five"cier when pressured. I actually think scUM's D is better than Oregon's, especially on the line. Their DB's looked pedestrian at best. Rogers at 5'7" had a few great catches that if the DB knew what he was doing would have been picks. I could see the game playing out very similar to the scUM game also. Just think...If TP hits 1 or both deep balls it was a 35-10 game. Add to all this the fact that our D will hear about how the Oregon O will run up and down the field on them and how OSU will lose due to that. I think they will eat that up. Oregon's O line better be ready because they will have to deal with Cam and Gib as fired up as they probably have been all year. I just hope that if the game is 21-10 going into the fourth that JT pushes to bump the score up to 28. 11 point game with a quarter to go is not enough especially if the D allows Masoli to get rolling..... but I don't think that will happen. Masoli didn't throw for a td until game four. It's about stopping the read option and the tweaks off of it.

According to the NCAA statistics page, here's how some Teams rank in Rushing Defense:

Oregon - 40
Ohio State - 5
Penn State - 10
Iowa - 32

Ohio State ran for 228 yards against the #10 rushing defense, and for 229 against the #32 defense.

Furthermore, Ohio State is the 17th ranked rushing offense. Cal is 30th and Oregon State is 59th.

Just keep telling yourself it won't hurt at all, if you say it often enough you will believe it. Don't worry there are only 5 or 6 of us, we'll be done soon enough.
