Game Thread 2010 Rose Bowl: Ohio State 26 Oregon 17 (Final, 1/01/2010)

Every year we get to hear how great the Little 10 is then you play a few Pac 10 teams and lay an egg. The Ducks offense is explosive you can't
replicate it in a practice situation. Thus when the offense scores in an
average of two minutes the opposing team has a few more chance of their
own to score. Our defens is not great but the team speed will suprise you.
Just ask your friendly rival UM I think they saw us as we ran by. I really
do hope it is a great game and just wanted to poke you with a stick a little to have some fun.

USC 18-OSU 15(laid egg???)
UO 38- Pur 36(laid egg????)
Iowa 27- Ariz 17(laid egg???)
Cal 35- Minn 21(was close all game, laid egg???)

USC at home in Rose bowl is not even playing field. Not sure outside of OSU going to USC without our workhorse which team you are talking about. PSU isn't that good most years, ILL was a joke in 07, scUM lost 4 games in 07. Can you expound on the laid eggs???

I say I'm not impressed at all with "team speed" outside LaMichael James, especially on defense. Jeremiah Masoli sure is crafty, but he's not speed demon. I'm actually sort of confused what Oregon has done in the past 4 or 5 years to warrant your confidence? I understand it's easy to sit behind USC and poke your head out when you think it's safe to do so. If Oregon came into the Rose Bowl with Dennis Dixon, you'd see a lot more Buckeyes with frightened faces. Masoli is good, but not THAT good.

So far all I've figured out that Oregon has done in the past few years is beat a Michigan team that lost to a D1-AA team and lost to the turf-monsters from the WAC as your scream PAC-10 superiority.

Quack, quack.

Plus Texas had a fairly "explosive" offense last year. And they were to win by 50. I am not saying Oregon can't win(unlike you inferred about OSU) but I doubt you watched any games outside of maybe OSU/USC and OSU/Iowa. I saw Oregon play 6-7 of their games. That defense isn't great. And we play spread teams alot in the Big 10. Plus if Oregon only has the ball for 20 minutes due to our run game (which has been rolling of late), they won't score 35 points. I think Oregon will need at least 30 to win. They average 27 minutes a game, 115th in the FBS. Ohio State is tied at 41 with 30 +. Ohio State leads the FBS in plays against of over 20 yards. So without Oregon's big plays it will be hard to move the ball at the 2 min per score rate you think.

Was suprised not by speed but by these stats....

Oregon-

98th in penalty yardage
99th in penalties
55th KO coverage
42nd in PR defense
40th run defense
as stated above 115th in TOP

looks to fit Tressball...

One key to beating a high octane O like O is to keep them off the field. The way our running game has been working of late we are geared to do exactly that.

When we have the ball it will be classic trench warfare. We have six weeks for an OL that was already hitting its stride to get healthy. And if they sell out to stop the off tackle play perhaps Pryor can show them just what a freak athlete looks like.

I am sure they will score. But they also like to wear down the D for their fourth quarter onslaughts. That could be tough against the deepest DL rotation in the country.

Everybody wants to go on and on about our lack of bowl success the past three seasons. I will listen to that from the Oregon fan base when they have played three bowls against teams that in those three seasons won 37 games and two National Championships.

As for PAC 10 Rose Bowl dominance I will certainly tip my hat to USC. But nobody from the PAC 10 other than USC has won a Rose Bowl since the 2000 season. And despite winning six Big Ten titles this is Jim Tressel's first visit, bringing with him an OSU team that has not lost in Pasadena since 1985.

Defense wins championships.

There were a few things that jumped out at me last night that were behind the schenes but are very important.

Their corners do not turn around when the ball is in the air. This is huge for the Bckeyes. I understand Rodgers is fst but he is short. I can't imagine our 6'4 guys going up against these clowns.

Their kickoff and punt coverage and kicking sucks...bad. I would love to see us rack up about 150+ yards of kick return yardage. I could see us taking 1 or 2 to the house.

Maehl is their onl threat a WR...we need to be physical at the line ofscrimmage with him.

Their athletes carry the ball like a loaf of bread.

TP could have run for 250 yards himself if he was OSU's QB. When they blitzed the whole middle o the field as open...Pryor woul have eaten up lot of yardage.

I think USC has a pulse...pretty good defense there. Putting up 47 on them...pretty [censored]ing good.

In all honesty, Oregon's offense has gotten a lot better as the year has gone on. It's pretty good.

I'd like to think that Ohio State could shut them down, but I don't think it's a given. They are going to be tough to stop. This will definitely be the best offense we will see all year. And this will be the best defense they've seen all year. USC's is good, but not as consistent as ours has been.

In fairness, USC were young and they had injuries. Not a lot of depth there. We faced their best defensive effort of the year.

Overall, I'd give your trolling efforts a "C-", and your knowledge of the facts an "F".

May I add that I give it a D- for beat and find that I can't dance to it?
