What I saw last night was a capable offense in the running game that will strugle to convert 3rd and longs. If not for the worst tackling I may have ever seen Oregon does not win last night. LB's for Ore St. looked liked they have never defended the option and they looked slow running to the ball. Their safeties and DB's did not look like they wanted to get physical at all.
These are all strengts for Ohio State's defense.

As for the OSU offense, well, I am putting my faith in the coaching staff here. OSU will find a way on that side of the ball. If Ohio State goes big and wants to push the Ducks around, I think they can. If Ohio State wants to go wide and attack the gaps, Pryor will run for over 100 on them.

Whoever said 'Kansas State' in regards to this Oregon team is spot on.

I am in agreement with you. Their offense does not scare me at all. The only reason I would have any concern is if our offense does not produce against their crappy defense.

I would say 29 ppg is pretty good considering
#1 Tresselball
#2 the defense has been giving up 12 PPG

the key to this game is scoring early and winning the field position battle, if we do that it will be a cakewalk, if we get down early and lose the field position battle we could be in trouble

Neither team could tackle, both took HORRIBLE angles, failed to play their assignments...it was a clinic in failed defensive fundamentals for both defenses. Oregon showed little ability to stretch the field, and neither team was exactly putting out an array of weapons at WR. Not only will Ohio State's defense perform much better, our fundamentally sound, if unspectacular offense would have been capable of ten minute drives on those defenses. Neither the Oregon State DL or the Oregon DL was anything to write home about. Another poster called the Oregon DL the fourth best we've played this year, and I think even that might be giving the Ducks the benefit of the doubt. Corner coverage was dreadful, even with the lack of WR threats outside of the Rodgers kid for Oregon State.

I am looking forward to the Rose Bowl like no game since Tressel has been here, and I am definitely looking forward to Oregon being favored, being hyped, and all of the talk about how OSU "always loses" BCS bowl games, etc. People have compared it to the Kansas State game, but I am getting more of the Notre Dame "give Charlie Weis a month to prepare" vibe. Either way, I am feeling a 10+ point win.

Watching the Ducks game last night, I kept thinking that for a rivalry game, they sure don't seem to want to knock anyones block off on defense so to speak. That little Rodgers at RB was not only ducking (no pun intended) right under defenders, but also managed to run a few over.

And I was thinking the same thing about bowl comparisons...K-State and No D come to mind where we were able to make very good offenses look pretty average, but I also immediately thought of last years game against Texas. That was a very good offense lead by Colt, "Should've won the Heisman" McCoy. And up until the last play, our defense really held them in check.

The only thing that scares me about the Ducks is their coaches ability to get creative on offense. He could very well come out and throw everything but the kitchen sink at our defense. I think he'll be anything but predictable.

As for our offenses ability...I think JT showed us last year against Texas that given a little time to prepare, he too can get a little creative. And if the Bucks get unpredictable on offense, I don't think Oregon's D will know what to do with that.

I don't yet have a good gut feeling on this game yet...I think it could go many different ways and one of those could be a dominating performance by the good guys...:)

Actually, I was concerned when I saw the Gators storm onto the field while our guys casually strolled onto it. One team looked ready to play a football game. The other looked like it showed up to receive a trophy it hadn't actually won yet. But then the kickoff happened and for a moment I thought we'd be okay. For a moment.

My impression of Leak was that if you pressured him he'd make some ill-advised tosses, but we made it easy on him by sitting back allowing him to make short throws and let his guys run. The fact that it appeared we made no adjustments when it wasn't working was amazing. As for our offense, we surprised Michigan by spreading them out and throwing it all over the place. I was positive Tressel would switch gears and go after the Gators like the Miami game - power football and play action off it. Boy, was I wrong.

It seemed we fell in love with our toy, who looked like he gained about 15 pounds on the rubber chicken circuit, and even after losing our fastest weapon to injury after the first play we stuck with a plan that had little chance of success in the first place. It was doomed once Ginn was lost. Again, I saw little adjustment at halftime. Tressel was totally outfoxed by Urban that night. UF had a better plan, and their players were better prepared. Blame it on the layoff, the accolades after the scUM game, who knows, but the result spoke for itself.

In some respects, I don't think our program has completely recovered yet, but winning a Rose Bowl would be a step in the right direction. Winning the Big Ten repeatedly doesn't get the respect it deserves (I realize it is not the best conference these days but it's not the worst, either), but getting back on the plus side in a BCS game should silence some critics.

Fuck the Ducks!

Quite simply, there was no mojo that night. Even after the TGJR kick return to start the game, the team was just flat.

Then agaisnt LSU, we were simply outclassed. They were far and away the better team. We were ready to play, but just got beat.

Last year was a great game. Bad to be on the losing side of it. But it was an even game throughout and sans a dropped INT on the OSU side on the last drive...the outlook for OSU fans would be entirely different right now.

Sounds more like Cincy's D against Illinois.(yes, I know thems fightin' words)

For anyone who thinks we don't match up well, I don't really understand why. We haven't been beaten by a spread option attack since Illinois '07. Penn State ran the "spread HD" last year but there wasn't much option there and you can hardly say their offense won the game for them. This year, Purdue runs a shotgun spread, run and shoot type of offense, with no real QB run threat. We've taken care of mobile QB just fine over the last two years. With speedy Rolle in there and Hines at star, I think we have a pretty good antidote for their style of O'.

It's called emotion and rationalization. Happens all the time, especially around bowl season.
