Game Thread 2010 Rose Bowl: Ohio State 26 Oregon 17 (Final, 1/01/2010)

Add to that: Have the Ducks faced a QB at all this year who could really beat them with his legs?

Every day in practice. Granted, Jeremiah doesn't have the top end speed, but he is quick for such a stocky player.

One point that really struck me last night during the game was that the Oregon D does really well against plays that they're own team will run (i.e. bubble screens, etc). However, I don't think they fare as well against amalgamated offenses.

Their D-line seems really undersized. For once, we don't have a Jean-Francois/Dorsey/Orakpo to manage in this game.

Not only that but what I noticed about Oregon's line is they RUSH upfield with no holding back. Watching that game last night I kept thinking about how if it was Pryor not Canfield Pryor would've ran for 100+ yards. Has Oregon faced a mobile QB all year? Boise (NO),USC (NO), Arizona (NO), OSU (NO. Jake Locker is the only one I can think of and that team is just not very good.

If they play upfield Pryor will get then with his legs (who by the way will be 100% healthy), if they stay back and try the containing route our oline will push em off the ball...

They'll do some things against our defense I have no doubt, but I believe we'll do enough on defense. The main key for us though will be ball control which I believe is a great advantage. Undersized or not the oline will be ready to go and win this game for us.

We win where it matters.... In the trenches. One great thing about the long break is it can sometimes have the tendency to throw off QB's who may be on a roll... I'd hardly call Masoli's passing "on a roll" though.

He's almost Identical in running style to Clarke from PSU I think and we did a great job with him...

I'm sure the Oregon coaching staff isn't stupid, they aren't going to ignore the fact that Pryor is a runner when they plan their defensive schemes, their line attacked the way that they did because they knew Canfield wasn't a runner. I think our focus should be pounding the ball at the interior of their defense, make them play our style of football then you can mix in Pryor's athleticism on the edge and the down field passing game, ala the basic tressel formula as of late

Masoli and the Oregon's offense though is going to need to be able to open it up down the field if they hope to have any success against OSU's defense, they aren't just going to be able to pound us with that read option like they did last night, Masoli is going to have to make plays with his arm while taking care of the football

For some reason I'm feeling pretty confident about this game. A month ago I was pretty sure we could not match a team with that supercharged offense. But now that we have the running game ramped up and Pryor is managing the game much better I think we have a really good chance to take the Roses. Oh and the defense is going to bring it all day.:banger: Can't wait!

I thought these comments were entertaining...

Comments on Ducks celebrate Civil War win; Rose Bowl foe Ohio State awaits | The Ducks Beat - Page 2 - OregonLive.com

Great job "paying off the ref's before the game", man that would be hard for anyone to win at Autzen, looking at what 15 guys on the other side of the field? I mean the Ref's had way more "sacks" than anyone else on the Oregon "Defenseless" .... no wonder everyone hate's whOregon???
Oh, the Rose Bowl (yawn), another "Butt-Kicking" by Ohio State for what the 9th straight time...(sleeping now) O for 9 coming up!!!, as the ENTIRE country cheers for Ohio State, and hell nobody likes them, but compared to whOregon....all day long.... SUCK IT DUCKS..

It's not fair. Oregon has too many cool uniforms and helmets, Flat screen tv's and Star Trek doors in their locker room and the ref's on their side. Ohio St has no shot against these long odds. Go Ducks!

Oregon's sometimes out-of-control play on defense looked like it gave up running lanes and big scramble opportunities to the QB last night...

This is precisely what I observed last night as well. At times, I was trying to imagine tOSU offense playing against the Oregon defense.

Pryor is going to get plenty of rest for the things that were ailing him at the end of the season, and I think we're going to see him make several big plays with his feet against the Ducks.

This is certainly what we hope to see. I suppose we shouldn't be naive to think that Kelly and Aliotti will not prepare for a mobile QB. However, the defense I saw last night should have trouble with the Buckeye offense. I plan to re-watch some of the game to try and make some predictions on how they will gameplan their D.

It seems there are two ways to defend tOSU offense with some success. Contain the edges, don't let TP scramble, stop the run and dare TP to pass, is one. The other is to attempt to pressure TP with multiple blitz packages and be aggressive. One scheme requires patience and the other necessitates intensity.

I'm interested to hear what people think.

From what I see now, the Bucks should be able to run the ball. Perhaps this is obvious, but if the Buckeye D doesn't make early, costly mistakes, I see a huge dose of Tresselball coming.

All they will do is slobber about Oregon's offense during these next 5 weeks.

Looking forward to it. I hope every schmo in America thinks UO is going to put up 40 on us. It'll be hilarious reading/watching the aftermath.

Buckeye's offense must limit the 3 and outs. If the run is there for Pryor, TAKE IT!!!!! The key to this game, I think, is keeping Masoli and the Oregon offense on the sidelines as much as possible. We don't need the "big" plays....just a plodding offense controlling the time of possession. I want to see short, high percentage type passes from Pryor. Wear the Ducks down!!!

When the Bucks have an oppurtunity to make an interception, they MUST catch the ball to get the turnover.

Maybe on defense, the Buckeyes put a "spy" on Masoli (Homan maybe?).

I like our chances in this game! However, I felt the same way when we were going up against Florida/LSU. :shake:

Canfield had the space to run because he was an accurate passer. Can Pryor do the same on a consistant basis? Don't get me wrong I like the match up, but until TP shows that he can throw the ball well (on a consistent basis)- we'll see a totally different formation.

I didn't really care who won in the game last night, and I thought Oregon State got a pretty raw deal from the refs.

Agreed (especially on the bogus cut block). However, as was pointed out to me, after they missed the PI in the red zone; Riley really lit into one of the refs and it seemed more even from then on out.

Florida and LSU were the best defensive lines we had faced the entire year, in fact, it wasn't even close

Oregon probably has the 3rd or 4th best defensive line we have faced, maybe even worse
