Game Thread 2010 Rose Bowl: Ohio State 26 Oregon 17 (Final, 1/01/2010)

Funny thing happens to "great" offenses when a fucking nasty D shows up and kicks them in the teeth. They crumble. I expect Oregon to fold like an ugly Nike track suit. Fuck a duck. Fuck that cheap ass Donald Duck knock off, and fuck Phil Knight. Bucks by 14.

yeah, Masoli looked like shit when he was under pressure, throwing balls that were all over the place, and while he makes a great play from time to time, he is also very turnover prone, this is the kind of team that Tresselball will demolish as long as we get up early and force them to try to make even more plays, forcing them to make even more mistakes, rinse and repeat

I'm more concerned with Masoli as a runner than I am with him as a passer. He was great last night at running the read option and knowing when to give the ball to the RB and when to keep it. That said, Oregon State's defense was, for the most part, terrible--bad at keeping assignments, bad at missing tackles, etc.

I think USC has a pulse...pretty good defense there. Putting up 47 on them...pretty [censored]ing good.

In all honesty, Oregon's offense has gotten a lot better as the year has gone on. It's pretty good.

I'd like to think that Ohio State could shut them down, but I don't think it's a given. They are going to be tough to stop. This will definitely be the best offense we will see all year. And this will be the best defense they've seen all year. USC's is good, but not as consistent as ours has been.

Our defense is/was horrible this year. The worst of Carroll's tenure easily, and really one of the worst of all time.... well, okay, USC's history goes back quite a ways, but it's definitely the worst I've seen. We gave up the most points in school history this year, to Stanford, at home.

Have they played a defense yet?

Not "one like ours"... a defense. With a pulse. They have no idea what's in store them.

The only unfortunate thing? All the Duck trolls who were here for the Pryor saga now get to fly back.

Which will make the win all that more sweet.

Has OSU played an offense as good as Oregon's? ANyone with, what you said, a pulse?

Figures a Cane would show up to troll in this thread. Getting an early start on next September, I guess....

Anyway, we did play Penn State, who has the All Big Ten quarterback and an All Big Ten running back. Penn State ranks #35 in the country in total offense with 412.50 yards per game ... which incidentally exactly ties them with your beloved Miami Hurricanes, who also averaged 412.50 yards per game. So, if you want to admit that the Hurricanes' offense has "no pulse", then I will accept your point.

Of course, Penn State's offensive numbers went down dramatically after Ohio State held them to just 201 yards of total offense. In their other 11 games besides Ohio State, Penn State averaged 431.73 yards per game.

Ohio State also played Toledo, who averaged 437.92 yards per game, which was good for #18 in the country. Ohio State shut out Toledo and held them to 210 yards of total offense. In their other 11 games besides Ohio State, Toledo averaged 458.64 yards per game.

By the way, Oregon's offense averages 424.67 yards per game after last night's game with Oregon State, which places them at #25 in the country, slightly ahead of Penn State and slightly behind Toledo. Obviously, if Ohio State's defense holds true to form, then Oregon's total offense number will be quite a bit lower after the Rose Bowl.

For your information, Ohio State's defense is #4 in the country (behind Florida, Texas Christian, and Alabama), giving up just 262.50 yards per game. Ohio State gave up 368 yards to Wisconsin, which was the Buckeyes "worst" defense performance of the season. The Buckeye defense has taken the "pulse" out of many offenses this year.

Overall, I'd give your trolling efforts a "C-", and your knowledge of the facts an "F".

I'm glad everybody else has confidence. I don't think our D is suited for this offense at all. We're going to have to score into the 30s to win this game. Hope Pryor's up for it.

BTW, I hate watching these kinds of gimmicky offenses. If they put points on the board, it's going to make me hate it even more.

edit: ah shit....gotta change my icon. too much green.

BuckeyeNation27 I am here to lift your spirits.

If Masoli and his cohorts carry the football like a loaf of bread against us they are gonna get smoked...badly. They have some serious ball security issues.

Their corners are awful...damn!!!

They tackled as bad or worse than Oregon State did...damn.

FG kicker is limited in range and may allow us to get some decent kickoff yardage/field position.

UCLA and Boise State were the best defenses that Oregon played this year...WHAT A FUCKING JOKE!!!!

Their depth on defense is a joke.

Yeah I noticed Zona put up 40+ on their defense...put up 10 on Iowa and 7 of those points were on a pick 6.

Does Oregon have a great offense tht can score plenty? sure they do. They aso have a defense that sucks bad.

I would run he ball down their throats. That underized defensewas be done by mid 3rd quarter is I were coaching.

Playaction will be there are game long.

I think the surge of our OL will cause them some serious issues...I see 2-3 fumbles because of the surge from the DL.

One thing that helps is they shouldn't get a gift of 30 false start penalties.

I'd be a little optimistic about their short kickoffs if we could ever do anything on kick returns. I'm also a little concerned about their kick return team.

That play where Masoli scrambled to the right and trucked the OrSU DB to convert the first down late in the game? That's a much different play when you're facing Kurt Coleman instead.

That said, Masoli is a pretty good runner and an even better decision maker on option plays. They'll be tough to stop. I think Oregon will move the ball and score some points. I too think the Buckeyes will have to score in the 30s to win - I have a hard time seeing them hold Oregon below 24 points. I think the last person who said they will need to score in the 30s said it with some trepidation though, and I'm not as concerned about that. Oregon's defense isn't anything to write home about in my opinion. People are going to spend most of their time talking about Oregon's offense vs. Ohio State's defense, but the reverse matchup might be the one that has the greatest bearing on who wins this game.
