Early line Oregon -2

ESPN just said "Rose Bowl isn't a bad place for Ohio State to be after having a bad season."

Did I miss something? Was this a bad season?

We beat Scum and State Penn and were outright Big Ten champs. I guess that is a bad season and we might as well not even show up.............Fuck ESPiN!

I think USC has a pulse...pretty good defense there. Putting up 47 on them...pretty fucking good.

In all honesty, Oregon's offense has gotten a lot better as the year has gone on. It's pretty good.

I'd like to think that Ohio State could shut them down, but I don't think it's a given. They are going to be tough to stop. This will definitely be the best offense we will see all year. And this will be the best defense they've seen all year. USC's is good, but not as consistent as ours has been.

I think USC certainly qualifies as a defense with a pulse...and oregon put 40 on them.

The rose bowl is going to be a very interest battle of matchups. Old big-ten power game versus sexy-west coast spread option. Watching tonight's OSU defense, I noticed that they didn't tackle, didn't do a good job of staying in their lanes, and didn't get off blocks. Because of the zone-read, our DE's are going to have to be really good at getting up field, but doing that in control so that they can bounce out if the ball goes there. Getting penetration with only our front-four will be the key to stopping this offense (true with most offenses, but I think especially with this one because so much happens 5-6 yards behind the line of scrimmage). Penetration will also force them to go east-west and allow our linebackers and safeties to come down and make plays in their backfield.

Obviously, the other basics like tackling and staying in lanes will be key. I'm pretty confident that we can do that; our defense always seems rather disciplined. I'm slightly worried about our d-line; while dominant, they haven't owned the line of scrimmage (in my opinion) the last 2 weeks against Iowa and UM. Hopefully, they bring it in Pasadena.

I don't want to think about what our offense can/will do. I'd like to see us run a power-run game with some play-action passes, but w/e works at this point will make me happy.

a week after 36 vs OrSU, and a few weeks before Stanford hung half a hundred.

Not a very good pulse, though.

And Stanford put 50 on them, and I firmly believe that if we re-played the game in Columbus next week, we'd beat them by two scores.

Their defense got beaten and beaten up as the season progressed.

Not that it takes away from the Ducks' offense; I just don't think that Oregon's team philosophy of "what the hell, let's just try to outscore them" will be all that successful against our running game and defense. They're a team that Tresselball was built to beat.

Especially with their penchant for fumbling. They remind me a lot of Kansas State in 2003-2004

Try to play with the numbers any way you want...Oregon has a great offense, one of the best in the country. We have a great defense, one of the best in the country. We need to be able to force turnovers, run the ball, and not turn the ball over. I think we can do all three. That's why I think we will win.

I think Tresselball is built to beat any team, but I think it's better against teams like Penn State not teams with high octaine offenses. I would have loved the way we would have matched up against Oregon State. Our speed rush on the ends would have pressured their QB, and he is terrible under pressure. We would have been able to run the ball all day and force turnovers. I think Tresselball would have killed Oregon State.

As far as Oregon, they can score so quickly that we might not be able to just play a field position game with them. A 21-10 lead in the 4th quarter wouldn't be safe, like it was against Michigan, or would be against Penn State. I think we need to be able to not just move the ball by running it, but score by running it.
