Game Thread 2010 Rose Bowl: Ohio State 26 Oregon 17 (Final, 1/01/2010)

What? I thought Carter was ur #3 guy, and Ray Small was one of your best athletes? hmmm i guess im wrong
Ted Ginn's as fast as anyone in the league. That doesn't make him one of the better dolphin receivers.

Carter is a very talented youngster, but he shows his age/inconsistency as well.

Small is not a factor as a WR, and really hasn't been one since 06, when he was 6th or 7th on the depth chart. He's a punt returner (who makes defenses hold their breath after he catches it, and us fans before he fields them dangerously).

Posey is OSU's #1 WR, and has emerged nicely.

Sanzenbacher is OSU's steady WR, tough, smart, crafty receiver.

Beyond that they merely have potential.

Well that sucks. We're going to need a good game out of our offense, and to lose our PR threat and our 3rd-string receiver hurts. Our offense has been assisted countless times by the short field Ray Small has given them, not being able to have that could severely limit our scoring ability.

I would gladly trade a punt returner with a little less speed for someone that can hold onto the ball consistently or does not let the ball roll an extra 15 yards.

Small was explosive, but he was also a liability.

I love Small AFTER he catches the ball, but he scares the hell out of me before he catches it. After Posey and Sanzenbacher it seems like we have a lot of potentially good receivers all on the same level so I don't think losing Carter will hurt the offense at all.

So Duron's absence provides Twash the opportunity...Small's absence will provide Flash's opportunity. I believe that Taurian and Flash can make positive impacts. The talent is definitely there. Practicing like starters for a few weeks certainly won't hurt. This is their golden opportunity.

Agreed, and I don't think there's much of a drop off from Small/Carter to Thomas/Washington.

It's making us Oregon fans upset as well....

If we beat OSU: It won't be as meaningful because the Buckeyes would have been depleted at WR.

If we lose to OSU: We lost to a team that was missing two of their best WR's.

Don't worry about it. It won't have much of an impact on the game and if Oregon wins we will give them their due...no excuses. If Ohio State wins then Oregon lost to a good, underrated team with a great defense IMO.

T. Wash has shown the ability to get open. IF he can hold onto the ball, he could actually be a real difference maker in the game.

On another note, we have some pretty good TE's in Ballard and Stoney that I would actually prefer we throw the ball too.

We'll be just fine, imo...

Ray Small= solid #3 receiver. Which means on a good day, he'll have 3 catches for 40 yds and pick up a first down or two. Saine has arguably been our #3c while Small and Carter have been 3a and 3b, but would love to see Thomas or DWash grab the position here. Like the previous poster mentioned, Ballard and Stoney are excellent options as well.

Yeah, you know, I think this is an awesome opportunity for TWash and LThomas to see what they're made of. Obviously not the optimum situation to "get their shot." But still, if these two receivers are thinking about sticking around and actually contributing on the field for the Buckeyes in the future, they will have a great chance to make their statement. If either of these guys works their butt off and steps up, that will be a great thing for the Bucks. And if not, well as others have said...not like our 3rd and 4th recievers have contributed much this season anyway.

I agree, we won't miss Small that much as a receiver, but I think we probably miss him on punt returns. He came up huge in the PSU game and that helped our offense immensely. I just hope whoever replaces him on returns won't give us any oh [censored]! moments.

Speak for yourself. Consider me a fan of "Tressel Ball" and the win percentage that comes along with it.

There's too much disparity between a couple of classes of opponents that make up that win % for me to take it at face value no questions asked.

Tressel at OSU overall: 93-21 (81.6%)

Regular season OOC vs BCS conference schools that finished the season with a better than 500 record: 4-4

Bowl Games: 4-4

So another way to look at it is vs the B10 and OOC teams not in our weight class Tressel Ball wracks up an even more impressive 86.7% win percentage (85-13) but has been 50/50 so far against non B10 foes of roughly equal ability.

87% vs one group and 50% against another makes me question things. Obviously I'm in the minority on that but I've seen the return of the "it just wins" defense of Tresselball taken as gospel and I think its worth pointing out "it just wins vs bad OOC teams and the B10" is more accurate.
