Game Thread 2010 Rose Bowl: Ohio State 26 Oregon 17 (Final, 1/01/2010)

No one wants to admit they were wrong. Plain and simple

Plus...their way to deal with it is asinine... "Well Ohio State can't win a big game" ... "They beat so and so"... "That's not a Big Game, are you serious"..."Well that team was a top ten BCS team"..."That doesn't matter, pfft"

So true. Let's recall:

1. Before the State Penn game: "Penn State is a strong team. They beat Ohio State in Columbus last year and will beat them even harder in Happy Valley this year. They're better than Ohio State and Ohio State can't win big games."

2. Before the Iowa game: somewhat the same story.

3. Before the RB: You know what went on.

Games are only "Big Games" until Ohio State wins them, and teams are only "good teams" until Ohio State beats them. Our wins never get any credit because we can't beat good teams, and if we beat a team, obviously they were no good. Go figure.

Not that I am jaded, but does anyone else feel like that if the Bucks would have lost the media would have tore them a new one, but since they won it's like the game never [censored]ing happened as far as sports radio goes? Seriously, what [censored]ing gives, the Pac-10 had a complete [censored]ing collapse and this "super offense of Oregon" got shut down, yet the talk is the USC self-imposed sanctions and the NFL games yesterday that didn't really matter?
I don't get that feeling. I haven't heard anything on sports radio about the USC sanctions and the NFL always gets more coverage. And I've heard Rose Bowl discussions. Jason Smith said friday night that Terrelle showed great improvement and, "if that's the Terrelle Pryor we'll see all next season, Ohio State will be in the national championship game."

What timing... he's actually talking about the Buckeyes now with Beano Cook... More gushing over Terrelle's level of play and talk of the Buckeyes 2010 season. Beano said the Buckeyes will be "very good." Smith agreed and said they have a convenient schedule. "They get Miami at home, and only four games on the road: Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, and Iowa. The only game that might be a problem is Wisconsin." (Hah, Iowa will be a patsy next year?!) Then Beano said the Bucks will contend for the national title and will be at least 11-1. So they said nothing of Miami or Jacory Harris presenting a problem for the Bucks and the future looks bright.

But perhaps that thing about disregarding Iowa is exemplary of the issue; maybe the radio guys just don't know much or care much about college football. The NFL is more popular and their championship isn't mythical.

I've heard at least one other espin radio personality praising the Bucks as well and haven't heard anything like "Oregon just came out flat" or "those weren't the Ducks we saw in the regular season..."

If the Bucks had lost, maybe the radio people would have been on the attack, but I don't think they would have "crucified" unless the game was a blowout. The talk would have been about UO's first RB victory in the modern era.

Zem, I need your radio up here, actually, I have been listening to mostly socal radio because that's where most of the crap got laid on us, they gave me no crow, I want my fucking crow, if you said "Buckeyes gonna get eaten by those ducks, they are nut eating ducks, be careful" or something along those lines, I want to hear "oh sorry, I was wrong." Now I realize Colin Coward wasn't working today, but Jim Rome, who's spent the last 3 years piling the fuck on, gave us all of nothing before jumping on the Broncos, and Steve Hartman said nothing, after he said he hated Ohio state and couldn't wait for the Ducks to destroy us.

Now for local, mostly duck radio, I get what they need to do to improve and onto the next story, so I am cool, but those guys that piled on, I want to see them eat so fucking crow, at least Plaschke had the balls to serve up a bowl for himself, and that guys a total fucking nob.

OC... you're fooling yourself if you think these radio people are going to be "accountable" for their pre game "predictions" It's the same with Mark May, these idiots get paid to make overstatements and boil blood. They don't get paid to be right, and they don't get paid to apologize for being wrong. Your remedy is to turn them off and watch/listen to someone else.

And if we do win it's..... "Well so and so beat themselves"... Good teams force you into mistakes and bad play not the other way around.... Idiots.

Ohio State never wins a game, but I'll be damned if they aren't the carriers of some infectious disease, causing a freakin' epidemic of opposing teams beating themselves. It's happened to scUM for years on end, and it also happened to Oregon.

Except Mark May actually said positive things about OSU after this game.

Did anyone catch this epic fail by Jay Mariotti Pre-Rose bowl?? What a fucking idiot. Be sure to leave a comment at the bottom of the article.
I was going to break down the Mariotti piece point by point, but I said, "Why bother?" His article basically boils down to "O$U sux!!! Speed killz!! Oregon rulz!!! LOL @ Sweatervest!!!" In other words, exactly what you'd expect from a 14-year old meth-head from 8 Mile ... except that Mariotti is supposed to be a legitimate journalist.

"Legitimate" journalists seem to be few and far between. As a group, they seem lazy and blowhard in their style.

So. Who do you respect as a sports journalist?
Bill Plashke?(LA Times) (who is not afraid to call out USC)
Any of the ESPiN guys? (Herbie?)
Peter King? (SI)

 You just listed off two people cut from the same stereotype driven cloth. Plashke is a comrade of Mariotti's on the ESPN yelling show.

I had a coworker come up to me and tell me your Bucks cost me about $100 for the football game this weekend. The other guy who was talking shit all month long and was saying we were going to loose to the turn of about 40 points completely switched and is now saying Oregon and the Pac 10 blows. I wonder if he would still Blaine Gabbert(Mizzou fan) over TP as well. Damn this win still feels good.
