2010 polls - Pre-season and regular

Why is Everyone So High on Oregon

Is anyone else getting sick and tired of hearing about how great Oregon is this season and how they are the second (or maybe even first) best team in the nation? I say this because a fan new poll on ESPN says that most people think that Oregon is the second best team in the nation. This is bull crap. Let's look at the facts.

They have only played one team and even though they crushed them, it seems watered down to me. I thought that Stanford had a tougher defense than proven, but they fizzled out.

Has the national media forgotten that there is a reason why the Pac-10 is called the French-10? It's because there is no defense out there. What happened last year when Oregon finally played a smash mouth defense with speedy players? They got beat in the Rose Bowl. They are a very good offensive team who can't play defense and will struggle against those who can.

Unfortunately, we may not see them play a good D until a bowl game. If they get matched up with Boise or TCU, then we may never know how they would do against a team that plays hard-nosed defense. The media and fans really need to stop saying that they are the best team to knock-off Alabama in the NC. So far, there is only one team that I think can do that, and they don't need 80 different uniform possibilities to get in the spotlight.

Oregon returned 19 of 22 starters (I believe). Darron Thomas has performed very well in his first year at QB, and he's been better than was hoped for in Masoli's place. The defense isn't shabby either. I don't find them to be overrated at all.

Oregon still doesn't play defense (nat'l rank is 52). While they probably deserve to be top 5, the disappointment among Buckeye fans will be justifiable if they pass tOSU in the polls.

Defense wins championships and Oregon doesn't have it. I can only hope that SouthCampus is correct when he guarantees an Oregon loss.

My statement wasn't a reflection on this consideration.

I can appreciate that. I probably should have made my comment without specifically quoting you. My point, said another way, is that the prolific Duck offense may unjustly influence their poll position.

Interesting that Auburn and LSU (undefeated in the SEC) are ranked below the undefeated in Pac-10, Big 12, and Boise St./TCU.

There's also a daisy chain that the voters seemed to ignore.

Undefeated Auburn gave S. Car their only loss who gave Bama their only loss who gave Arkansas their only loss. Since it starts with an undefeated team and everybody else only has 1 loss, it's a defendable pecking order, and I used that for the SEC teams in my poll this week. LSU hasn't played any of them yet, so they can be placed anywhere in relation to the others.
