2010 Heisman Trophy Discussion

I'll give you both the title run argument, but that wasn't part of the question. Crouch threw four more picks than he did TD's in his Heisman year. He ran for a Brazillion yards and even caught a TD pass, but as a QB, he was below average at best.
2001 was also an exceptionally weak year for the Heisman...Rex Grossman finished second followed by Ken Dorsey and Joey Harrington. After that, you had the likes of David Carr, Antwaan Randle-El and a handful of defensive players. It's still early, but I think this is a deeper field overall, and a number of candidates are key cogs in National Title contenders (almost always a key).

You don't get to take half a season off and win the Heisman.
If Devine can put the #25 ranked Mountaineers on his back and carry them to some thrilling victories over, uh ... Syracuse, Pittsburgh, and Rutgers, he's got a shot. I'm sure the Heisman Trust won't hold 54 yards of total offense against LSU against him. :roll2:

If they run the table they will most likely be a top 5 team

Its one game. Also what the heck does the Heisman trust have to do with anything? Tim Tebow and some writer for the New York Times are the kind of people who vote for the heisman and they overlook one game.

Problem is ... there are a lot of players who play in good conferences who have their teams on their back already.

Devine doesn't have a shot this year, outside of numerous injuries to players ahead of him.

*knock on wood*

A prediction of how it will end up from Fiutak.

CFN

The Heisman finalists

It?ll be a dogfight down the stretch in one of the closest Heisman races ever, and there will be at least five viable candidates fighting it out for votes. Denard Robinson will fall out of favor over the second half of the season, but his final numbers will be too amazing to ignore and he?ll get several No. 3 votes after a scintillating performance against Ohio State. Nebraska?s Taylor Martinez will struggle a bit against Texas, but he?ll lead the Huskers to the Big 12 title game getting votes in a top-player-on-a-top-team way. Terrelle Pryor won?t have the numbers, and he?ll be out of the hunt for a little while after struggling this week against Wisconsin, but he?ll make up for it in a win over Iowa. Oregon?s LaMichael James will end up leading the nation in rushing, and he?ll just miss out on the 2,000-yard mark to finish in everyone?s top three. Those on the West Coast will give Kellen Moore a few votes, but no one on the right side of the Mississippi will have him on the ballot. Auburn?s Cam Newton will deserve more respect, but he?ll struggle in his spotlight game in Alabama to ruin his bid (but he?ll be THE guy going into next year). Ryan Mallett and Andrew Luck will get a few votes from those going with the Most Talented Player Theory, but they won?t get enough to get an invite to New York. So, to make the call, it?ll be ?

1) Pryor, 2) James, 3) Martinez, 4) Robinson, 5) Moore, 6) Newton, 7) Luck, 8) Mallett

Pryor is definitely the best player on the best team right now, so it's not hard to believe if he's just steady week in and week out he'll come out on top.

If James does eclipse the 2000 yard mark and Oregon stays undefeated, it would be hard NOT to give him the award though.

It'll be tough for him to get to 2000, since he missed a game. And as he gets more attention, more voters will realize that he missed that game due to a harassment charge, which was really more of an assault when he was "trying to strangle a former girlfriend in a moment of anger". A lot of Heisman voters will think twice about giving a guy with that incident a first-place vote. Right after Reggie Bush returned his trophy, character will be a real factor this year.
