Great to see Sarah Schulze back in the lineup for a few minutes, too! I certainly didn't expect that given the reported severity of her knee injury. If she can get back in game shape by tourney time to contribute even 15-20 minutes a game, it would be a big boost.
Gutsy play by the ladies yesterday. They'll still likely need to pull an upset in East Lansing to get a first round bye in the B10 tourney, but an extra game against a bottom feeder might not be the worst thing in the world in terms of padding the NCAA resume.
I think the team is at its best when there pushing the rock and putting pressure on the D with the teams speed. Even in the half court set they should keep a higher tempo going.
Hill should have a higher ppg avg. She is clearly the most athletic player on the team. She just needs to work on her mid range game and finishing with all that speed. A lot of times she seems out of control or over penetrates. If she can be that slashing wing player who consistently beat their man off the dribble we would be a very dangerous team during this end of season tourney run.
Great win for the ladies last night! Yeah, our last possession was a little questionable, but great job by Amber Stokes to pressure the ball for the last ten seconds, and force MSU's guard to throw up a desperation shot.
Thanks to the UM "women" losing to a bad Minnesota team yesterday, it also pulled us into a tie for 4th in the conference with a chance to claim a share of 3rd if we can take out the Badgers on Sunday. All of a sudden, a first round bye in the BTT is looking feasible with one more tough win.
Tough draw for the women in the B10 tournament. We got the 5 seed, and the first round bye, but I think the 6 seed might actually have the easier path. We play Iowa (despite ESPN's bracket having us against Iowa State ), and then would almost certainly face MSU in the semis if we get past a pretty good Hawkeyes team.
I recall times when our girls won the regular season title, stumbled down the stretch, got knocked out of the BT tourney then got run out of the NCAAs.
Finishing on a roll going into the tourney - may not have even made the dance without winning the BTT after coming in 5th - is a different situation. Let's see when the brackets come out.
Props to the Lady Buckeyes for winning the Big Ten championship. As it has been said above, this team has come a long way in the past few weeks. They are finally playing as a team.
On another topic, Mr. Ed of the O-Zone posted last week that Jim Foster used to be a good interview but something has changed and he doesn't seem like the same coach anymore. Wonder if he is starting to wear down.
The ladies have come a long way from being swept by the Northwestern team that bowed out with a 25 point performance against Sparty! If I had to pick three teams I didn't want to play in the B10 Tournament, it would have been the three we beat. The ladies won it on probably the toughest draw of any top-half team. (Other than maybe Iowa, I guess, since they had to play us. :))
