2010-11 bowl projections

Definitely - since there are barely the 70 teams eligible to fill the bowl slots.

THe good news with that is that teams like Army are assured of a slot despite no tie-ins. The bad news is so are teams like Western Michigan and UTEP.

Bump for discussion of which teams are going where.

The BCS Bowls look like:

Title - Auburn-Oregon
Rose - Wiscy-TCU (forced to take TCU, but at least they get an undefeated #3 team and won't have to do it again for the next 3 years)
Sugar - tOSU-Arkansas
Orange - Va Tech-Stanford (more desirable than UConn)
Fiesta - Oklahoma-UConn (they pick last)

Think Stanford and UCONN will be switched. Neither is a big traveler, and I think they'll try to keep them as close to home as possible. Besides, nobody wants to see UCONN or VaTech, so why not ghettoize them into the same bowl. Conversely, Stanford-Chokelahoma would be a hell of a game.

Oklahoma/UConn? Jesus there's a ratings bonanza... :shake:

Actually VT/Stanford will be a fun game to watch. All the others will be interesting too, though my interest in college football will be severely diminished by January 10th to watch 2 teams I don't care at all about.

I agree.

I don't see how the Orange Bowl passes up on UConn considering they know Stanford fans aren't travelling across the entire country to see this game. Stanford to Arizona simply makes more sense, IMO. In the end it's probably much better for ratings to have the ACC/BigEast face off in a battle of the leasts and get a rematch of last years Brut Sun Bowl in the Fiesta.

Here's what I don't frickin' understand. I know that the other BCS bowls forced the Rose Bowl to agree to this non-aq clause. The way things are panning out this year, TCU would probably much RATHER go to the Fiesta and play Oklahoma--natural regional rival, closer travel distance.

OTOH, the Rose would like nothing BETTER than to take the #4 Stanford team that no other bowl wants to take.

Why can't they sit down like adults and work this out. Win-Win-Win. The Rose Bowl gets the team that nobody else wants, but it actually does want. The Fiesta gets a team that will travel much better than Stanford. TCU gets a closer and more interesting game for THEM.

Am I missing something here?

It's a pretty good thought, but they'd have to get the Orange Bowl to agree. I know that Stanford doesn't travel very well, but for TV ratings I think the Orange would prefer being able to advertise having the probable overall #1 NFL Draft Pick in Andrew Luck. And to have an 11-1 team, rather than 8-4 and unranked UConn.

UConn, Va Tech, TCU...looks like we drew a tougher opponent than most in Arkansas.

Herbie is still in love with TCU and Boise. The Badgers need to turn the Frogs into roadkill.
