As far as the Pryor comparison goes there really isnt that much of a comparison except they are both tall and athletic qb's. Pryor runs at a different speed than Devin does, although Devin seems to be further along as a passer than Pryor was at the same age. Anyway point is Pryor is one of those special athletes that come around only ever so often... it's unfair to compare Gardner to Pryor or for Michigan fans to put that type of pressure on him. Why can't Devin Gardner just be Devin Gardner? Mh20 I don't know what your smoking but could you send me sum because if Gardner is starting next year this program is in trouble. I do think it's reasonable to say that it's going to be tough for Tate to beat Devin out come 2011. Right now Tate gives us the best chance to win and I don't see that changing next year even with Gardner enrolling early.

There is some similarity in their frame, delivery, strength, running style. The speed is different as you said. Gardner passes better than Pryor did at this point, but Pryor was also pretty bad.

Even Pryor hated VY comparisons, and he's as close as it gets. He wanted to be his own player, and he deserves that. So does Devin, who has the talent to warrant it.

Exactly. OSU's offense was in trouble when pryor had to start as a true frosh. He was about as mistake free of a frosh as I've seen, and he still had some rough outings, and was helped a lot by the D.
I do think it's reasonable to say that it's going to be tough for Tate to beat Devin out come 2011. Right now Tate gives us the best chance to win and I don't see that changing next year even with Gardner enrolling early.

I think Tate is a nice pickup to help UM short term. Long term, Gardner may be a better prospect... though Tate will probably be a 2 year starter before Devin is starter material. That's a tough thing to overcome.

The funny part is that some of the RR Kool-Aid drinkers who post on mgoblog think that the series will be a slam-dunk two wins for UM.

I think Devin would be well served by a redshirt year, especially given the fact that Tate isn't early declaration material at his size. Give him two years of separation, time to work on his mechanics & adjust to the grind of being a college student athlete, and 3 years to start even if he never supplants Tate. Denard can provide the running QB package (w/ an occasional pass) until he's ready.

I'm just not sure RR will keep Devin off of the field, especially when 2010 will be a very defining year. Excuses can be made for 08 & 09, but by year three that offense needs to be humming. Whether it's at QB, WR or wherever, I think he'll end up using his star athlete as a true freshman.

This is assuming Tate is still starting by years end and Denard has not supplanted him by performance, injury, both or other reasons. Dryden has a point as well, so perhaps redshirting Devin isn't as ideal in that scenario.

Given the Tate family history I will be shocked if he's even in the program for his third year. I have a suspicion he bails the moment the shit hits the fan. I have an innate distrust of kids with meddling parents.

Tate was being actively pursued with Newsome & Beaver in the fold, and that started before Newsome wavered. Nothing surprises me more on the offensive side of the ball.

I'm not expecting Munchie to be a wolverine, but the talk of UM being done with offensive skill players seem to be message board wishes more than reality. If Clements, Legaux and others want to come, I don't see them being turned away.
