2009 TSUN News (football only discussion)

Hmmm...first time I've seen that.
Not sure where you've been... it was hinted at while he was on the bench, and talked about often when he pointed the finger in the press.
I've seen that. While that's great and all, I still take that with a grain of salt. There could be some truth behind it, but I've got no reason (with any proof) to think any differently about Minor. Thanks for the link though.
Find me a better source than Maizeman (and to an extent, Eroc).

Besides the info they provide, they don't spin or mask the bad side, and will actually go on rants against it. It makes it a lot easier to buy into what they're saying.

I've never thought his offense was gonna flat out fail. I've always felt it will eventually do quite well. The problem is that he's not bringing in the calibre of defensive players that I think will allow him to reach the pinnacle most scUM fans are desiring. They are gonna be bad defensively this year. Their depth is putrid on defense. Thus far, I don't see him doing a lot to improve the situation. He's putting out too many offers to slots/WR and undersized RBs. Yes he needs plenty of them, but not at the expense of defense. A number of these kids are jumping on the offers and committing because they aren't getting other offers as prestigious as scUM. It's a strategic error on his part. If all these offensive kids jump on the offers, that's less slots for defensive players. Doesn't matter how many defensive offers you hvae out there if offensive/hybrid players are snatching spots. I think they only have like 17 or 18 to give this year and they already have, what, 7 offensive players committed? Sure some of them may switch to defense, but why not give those schollies to prime defensive prospects?

edit: Gibbons is in the wrong class, but I don't like fixing it for just a kicker.

Turner & Campbell are the headliners, but also grew up wolverine fans. Marvin Robinson appears to have a similar connection.

For RR to reach the success UM fans are hoping for, he needs to start landing players like Luc, McVey, etc to go with the kids who naturally favor UM. To his credit, he does seem to be hitting the midwest hard this year (after badly neglecting it last year). It will be interesting to see how the dominoes start falling between the spring game and camp.

If more slots verbal before defenders, the natives will get a bit restless.

Agreed, I'm willing to give DR Campbell because he retained his services. Looking at their offer list, I don't see many elite players they're in on. Robinson maybe being an exception. His DB recruiting has been solid and he got a decent DL haul last year provided those three (Campbell, Roh, LaLotta) work out, but where's the LB'ers? He does need to get guys like Luc and McVey, but he's not. Luc, I read, turned down a visit to tsun. It is wise to hit the midwest after overdoing it in the south last year, but he just doesn't seem to have the "wow factor" that JT and Weis (though, I still don't know why) have with the midwest kids.

I still keep going back to how so many scUM fans were saying that DR was going to be a recruiting machine with bluechip prospects falling at his feet. It just isn't happening. He's mostly slugging it out against middle of the road southern teams and mediocre midwest teams for the guys he's getting. Lots of time left, maybe the momentum will swing, but they seem to be playing catch up for the big time guys they're after. And that 26-12 tilt in favor of offense for DR is telling...

But yeah, if more slots/wr/small rbs continue to commit, I may wet myself with glee.

Begs the question...do you take the good stuff that site says with the same grain of salt?

I've never been to that site, so I can't speak for their credibility. Now, if I heard the same thing from Brian or Tom over at mgoblog or varsity blue, it'd have credibility, in my book.

Does Brian have sources, or does he just write a sharp blog using those from other sites?

He seems to be a smart writer and summarizes well, but I don't remember stumbling across many tidbits of his own from practice and such.

Yeah, Brian has a few sources close to the program. If you want the latest news, you can usually find it at mgoblog.

Mgoblog does a nice breakdown of everything UM. They were pretty busy with the basketball and hockey stuff this past month, so football took a backseat on the mainpage. They do a "tuesday recruitin'" that is very informative and includes links to articles and other snipets. I've got a couple sites I like to frequent, but mgoblog is certainly the best of the best. Although, you guys have a pretty informative site going here. I'm amazed at all the non-tuos stuff. If it weren't for the trolls, most of the sites I go to would never have tuos mentioned.

Anyway, I like the site guys. You all seem to be quite tolerable and mature compared to the other tuos fans I've been accustomed to.

Please do us (and yourself) a favor, and try to refer to Ohio State as tOSU (or tosu) on this site. :wink2:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jA3pn2YI7ME]YouTube - Vincent Smith Breaks[/ame]

Every time I see Vincent on film, he reinforces his ability and UM's continuous allergy to tackling.
