Boise State Broncos and TCU Horned Frogs deserve to Dash into a BCS bowl - ESPN
Michigan (12). Current record: 5-5. Remaining games: at Wisconsin, Ohio State. Will the Wolverines go bowling? No. And that would be a bad thing: In July Rich Rodriguez said it would be a major disappointment if his second team in Ann Arbor didn't make a bowl game -- and presumably his goals at that time were higher than the Motor City Bowl. At this point it's impossible to see Michigan winning again until the intrasquad spring game.

This season has spiraled into a complete disaster in short order. After a 4-0 start, Michigan has lost five of six with the only victory over FCS Delaware State. The only two victories against automatic BCS qualifying teams are by three points over Indiana and four points over Notre Dame, both of which came with significant officiating breaks.

In fact, half of Rodriguez's eight wins at Michigan are against Miami (Ohio), Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Delaware State. He's lost twice to bad Illinois teams by a combined 50 points. He's lost to Toledo.

And then there is the ongoing NCAA investigation into excessive-practice allegations. Bad time to be RichRod right now.

The DT Talbott was a pretty solid pickup from what we saw at camp. The CB Talbott was supposed to be a solid sleeper prospect, but they can't afford to turn away any defenders at this point, let alone lose them down the stretch.

Will be interesting to see if this leads anywhere. I'm not particularly high on either one, but um desperately needs bodies on defense and the loss of these guys would sting. They're drooling all over some DT from Texas (nickanamed "Big Tex", fantastic. :!), but they need all the numbers they can get...regardless of talent level.

So would you, along with me, call this a now certified cataclysmic meltdown?

Say, oh I dunno, they finish 5-7 getting blown out twice against Wisconsin and Ohio State...have defections in the recruiting class and finish outside of the top 25 (recruiting wise)...and pair that with the ongoing investigation and maybe some more attrition from freshman trying to get out...

A man can dream.

It's not gonna be pretty. IIRC, Richie closed pretty strong last year and with the amount of playing time he has to offer, I can see him doing it again...defections or no defections. Problem is, the hole he has to dig himself out of on defense is so big, it's gonna take multiple solid classes to do that. So far, with a couple exceptions, he's relying on a lot of sleeper pick ups. That's risky business in a power conference like the Big Ten.

If they do drop these last two (particularly in embarrassing fashion), I don't see how he gets much rope past next year. Even with that, he's gonna have an uphill battle next fall. He loses an awful lot of impact players (Graham, Minor, C. Brown, possibly D. Warren). I think he sticks with Tater vice Gardner simply for the fact that who wants to start all over at QB for a 3rd year in a row? But again, if Tater continues his late season swoon into next year (I really think he's gonna get rocked in these last two games), I wouldn't be surprised to see a quck switch to gardner out of pure desperation.

All the Fraudriguez apologists have backed off their "Rodriguez gets results in year two" claims and are now saying he needs time to get his players in there (what happened to "I can mold my system to the players I have" :roll1:), but that's crap. He didn't have a memorable year until his 5th seaon in Morgantown after the Big Three left the conference, he won't get that long in aa.

No clarification was really needed on that point. :wink2:

Well, Michigan fans can have comfort in knowing they aren't the only ones suffering from dramatic coaching changes:

Ramblin' Wreck's gamblin' man winning more than games - NCAA Football - CBSSports.com

When Georgia Tech began looking for a coach to replace Chan Gailey, the thought of bringing Johnson's option offense to the ACC was considered to be a huge gamble. Don't go there, people told Johnson. The option may work at Georgia Southern and at Navy, but it will never work in a BCS conference. Too much speed.

"We played fast teams at Navy," Johnson said. "We didn't win every game but I knew if the offense was run correctly, it would work."

Georgia Tech went 9-4 in Johnson's first season, which included a memorable 45-42 win over archrival Georgia in Athens. The game was memorable because of the way Georgia Tech won it. Georgia led 28-12 at halftime and appeared to have total control of the game behind quarterback Matthew Stafford and running back Knowshon Moreno. In the Georgia Tech locker room, Johnson didn't scream. He didn't implore his team to do something extraordinary.

"He just showed us a couple of adjustments he thought would help," Nesbitt said last summer. "He just told us that if we settled down and executed the offense just a little bit better, we'd be fine."

In the span of just over seven minutes in the third quarter, Georgia Tech wiped out the deficit and took a 35-28 lead. Since then Johnson has earned a reputation as the King of Adjustments.

Oh wait, GT has been successful the past two years. Nevermind...
