2009 TSUN News (football only discussion)

Tate's put on some good weight, but like the reported weight totals, we've often been skeptical about the 'never lifted weights' line. Credit to BrutusBuckeye (scout) for the find.

'Family of quarterbacks' U-M recruit Tate Forcier to follow brothers to college - MLive.com

DetNews about Tate said:
He's also sticking to a heavy workout schedule - waking to do water aerobics at the San Diego condominium complex where his family lives, then participating in high school football practice in the afternoon. Next comes weight lifting or maybe a trip to the newest training ground for developing him into the best quarterback possible - a boxing and mixed-martial arts gym called Undisputed.
"I must have taken three of four hits the other day to the freakin' stomach,'' Tate says enthusiastically of a recent sparring session. "But it's gonna help me, it's gonna prepare me.''
All the work is geared toward getting the 6-foot-1-inch, 184-pound quarterback ready for the next stop on his journey: The University of Michigan.
Tate says he's occasionally tempted to watch TV or play video games rather than sticking to his regimen, but right now there's little time for such distractions.
"My dad taught me, it's 24-7,'' Forcier says. "He says: 'I gotta get you ready. I need to deliver Michigan a five-star prospect.'
Given the level of detail seen in this article, it seems like Tate might have lifted after all (which fits with his longtime intense trainer).

I can't imagine sending my five-star prospect into the boxing ring without any weight training.

Wow. Three or more pages of nothing but arguing between Buckeye and Weasel fans about what The Tot actually weighs.

Epic! :box:

MSU, U-M have a shot at 'maniac' DL from Cincinnati | detnews.com | The Detroit News
"Black is a player who could line up as a defensive end or at the tackle position," said Scout.com Midwest analyst Dave Berk. "He's got great burst and will give all out effort on each play. He does a good job going lateral and shows great strength and toughness. With good size and speed, Black is still learning techniques and moves that will take his game to another level."
That boyhood affinity for the Maize and Blue may be the biggest reason the Wolverines are still in the hunt. Were it not for that distinction there's a good chance they'd be on the outside looking in at a race featuring a quartet of schools that Black has already visited. Michigan is the only member of his top five that he hasn't seen yet. The Wolverines' position may be growing more precarious by the day since he could be on the verge of paring down his list for the final time. Currently he has only one more summer visit scheduled, and it's not to Ann Arbor.
Said Black, "Hopefully, I'll make it up to Michigan State if I'm not committed on July 11th."
If that decision timetable holds, the Spartans still have a puncher's chance at securing Black's services. However, the notion that he wouldn't make the trip to East Lansing on the 11th if he makes a commitment suggests that another of his suitors might currently be the team to beat. For his part, Black isn't overtly tipping his hand regarding his leanings. He speaks only of the criteria that will lead him to his final choice.
"It's going to come down to where I fit best," he explained. "It's where I think I fit best at and where I'll develop more so I can hopefully make it to the next level."
In what might be the sprint to the finish line, Cincinnati, Kentucky and Indiana have a few innate advantages over their Great Lakes state adversaries. Cincinnati and Kentucky both boast closer proximity. Indiana, meanwhile, is fairly close as well, but also has the additional benefit of sophomore defensive tackle Larry Black -- Jibreel's brother -- on its football team. A recent trip to Bloomington may be the last he takes before he arrives at a decision.
"I still want to make sure that the school I want to go to is the right school for me and my family, first and foremost," he said. "I want to make sure that the school has a winning attitude. I don't want to go to a losing team. So that's what is holding it up -- it is just a tough decision."
Four of his five suitors are currently hoping it's a little too tough.

GBW insiders were already putting him in the class.

Who is left at linebacker for them?

Are they going to put 11 slot receivers on defense too?

MD LB Troy Gloster favors WVU & Stanford over UM and wants to decide this summer. He mentioned a possible UM visit, but I'm not sure that's certain at this point. There are no other offered LBs listed in the scout.com database, other than a few verbals.

They turned away Holmes who wanted to verbal (which may have been the right call). Nelson, Luc, Hicks, Johnson aren't coming. They are turning away defensive visitors but still welcoming guys like RB Andre Givens (who would be in addition to White). He could play DB, but I haven't heard reports of UM wanting him there.

The drumbeats are getting a lot louder about the imbalance of scholarships.

Rich Rodriguez[/B], Tate has put on 15 lbs since getting to AA.

]I'm pretty sure that 10 lbs was from not eating/throwing up/being dehydrated. That being the case, usually within a couple days to a week, you've gained that back.

Fact: The first 10 pounds were trivial.

Fact: Tate is only claimed to be 5 pounds over high school weight.

Fact: Dick Rod is still an ass.

MSU got a QB commit from Michigan who is ranked 14th in the country by scout. MSU just jumped into the top 25 team recruiting rankings. We hhave told Michigan fans that this was coming and they laughed...they will not be laughing for long IMO.

BTW Hicks dropped them today.

6'6" MI QB Joe Boisture switched from Boston College. Bolden, Boisture and Gardner are a pretty strong trio of QBs from that state. He's a pro style QB with good athleticism.
