2009 TSUN News (football only discussion)

I am sure Michigan fans a relieved they finally got the slot WR they needed. Their 12 deep is going to look really good at that position.

I think we are all really underestimating RR. Only one coach in America has been able to consistently recruit into a loaded depth chart and that has been Pete Carroll. In fact, I seem to remember some skunk-bear fans saying after the hire that RR would be the Petey of the Midwest. I guess those fans had true insight that none of us BPers could fathom. What kind of charm and ingenuity does it take to keep grabbing these blue(?) chippers when there are already 15 or so from the same mold lining up on the depth chart? What really scares me is if someday RR discovers that there are actually other positions on the football field, and releases his recruiting mastery on the entire recruiting landscape, not merely concentrating on smurf types that will never see the top side of 200 lb until their belly is hanging over their buckle in middle age. I only hope that when the day comes that mr snakeoil starts recruiting unbelievable depth at OL, DL, and LB, that ther are at least a few crumbs left for the Bucks to field a servicable team. It will be a scary thought to think of a midwest-Pete, sneaky-Pete championship game every year. WE can only hope that RR allows us alittle more time atop the Big 10 heap before his recruiting genius engulfs us.

All he did was turn Oklahoma St around, upset their main rival a few times, and have them winning again. He has won the last 4 bowl games, BCS championship, and other big games.

Although I can understand why buckeyes would call him overrated and hate the guy.

I have to agree with the scUMmer here unfortunately. he does seem to make some poor decisions from the sidelines but you can't argue with his success. As far as saying the only reason he wins is because of talent...he deserves credit for building the program at LSU....and winning a BCS championship isn't easy even if you do have the most talent.

As much as it seems RR is making utterly ridonkulous decisions in the building of his team....part of me says he must know what he is doing? right? I mean He has several years head coaching experience in a BCS conference. He has a staff too, who also have done this before, including a recruiting coordinator.

I would think he has looked at his schollies by position by year (as we amateurs have done here) and understand what his immediate needs are.

Is it really possible that us fans can see this obvious blunders and incompetence going on here? that the scUM staff doesn't?

I love reading about the stupid and embarrasing stuff he does...he is a class A douchebag for sure...but I gotta think he has a plan....Maybe I'm giveing him too much credit?

well he's the head football coach of a major football program....so there's no doubt he knows what he's doing. but there's also no doubt he's overrated and there's no doubt I would love to see his dumb ass throwing for the end zone with 3 seconds left when a FG would win the game up in AA.

He knows what it takes to build his type of offense, and is painfully aware that he does not have that personnel yet. Given that their offensive obsession last offseason came at the expense of the defensive coaching, I'm not sure he believes in the same balance as some coaches.

There's also the little matter of whether defensive players are looking to play at UM as well as their unusual pseudo 3-3-5 formation. He's offering tons of defenders, but outside of DB, not many are interested. He has three strong defensive verbals in the last two classes that almost any coach at UM would have landed.

They need to establish some consistency on defense and turn around that trend and marketability to defenders.

First thing that came to mind for me as well. They seem to always be in dogfights with Sparty (no matter how bad MSU is). I can't imagine the reaction if he pulled that stunt again and the defender caught that 50-50 ball.

I just meant he was smarter than you were giving him credit for because he's not coaching TSUN.

What are the chances of this happening this year against WMU? :wink2:
