2009 TSUN News (football only discussion)

OSU's primetime games, even their losses, have been a huge asset to their recruiting. Kids are drawn to OSU, knowing they'll play in the top (or close to it) OOC game of the year, teams like Texas, USC, Miami, etc. Losing games to VY & Sanchez were huge assets in recruiting current and future kids. Kids want to be on that stage.

OSU does not have the same sway with kids if they simply beat up on Miami of OH or Washington (bad luck there, but the difference is undeniable) those weeks. Dismantling Texas in 06 & coming close in 05 earned OSU a ton of national respect. They need to do that again if they are to return to the NC game. Beating four mediocre ballclubs won't do it, especially with how folks view the b10.

Taking all bets.....the next michigan offer will be to a: CB, WR, RB, QB. No other positions require a bet....because that just isn't going to happen.

He HAS to go for quantity over quality.

A majority of these midgets are going to get McGuffied (no offense to the player, but he was, unfortunately for him, the first overhyped midget) at some point, so you need at least 6 deep at each one of those positions in order to make it through 12 games (not 13, because I do not think they make a bowl game again this year, which will be sweeeeeet!!!!).

Yeah. If playing USC and getting a L instead of Eastern Michigan and getting a W prevents UM from getting into the MNC game, hell yeah.

Typical scUM arrogance.

Appy State, Toledo, a 3-9 season and you are talking about scheduling easy wins.

I can't wait to see WMU break it off in you guys.

It's not a guarantee. Texas this past year. There are too many examples of teams that deserved a shot at the title, that missed out because a computer said they weren't the top two teams.
Texas got what they "deserved" If they deserved more, they would have beat TTU.

We have a playoff. 2 teams qualify, after 13 weeks (with 1 bye week). 117 get left out. Don't want to be left out? Win. If you win and are left out, then play a tougher schedule and beat someone who counts. A win is not a win.... Ball State was 12-0 ..... should they and Utah have played in the BCS title game?

The last year Michigan beat Ohio State was 1983? Damn. I knew it's been a while, but I didn't know it was THAT long. They are so bad now, they are actually forfeiting wins from the Cooper years?

Honestly, I feel the same way for osu. Say osu loses to USC this year but goes undefeated the rest of the season. Had osu played William and Mary instead and gotten a win, they'd be playing for the title. Wouldn't you be [censored]ed that you missed your chance to play for the title because of one game???
If OSU isn't good enough to beat USC at home then they don't deserve to be in the NC game is how I look at it. OTOH, beat USC at home and no one can complain about OSU getting in, even if they slip up once in Big 10 play. OTOH play a weak ass schedule in a league the media thinks is sub-SEC and your undefeated team has to settle for jst another BCS bowl game. So no thanks to the pasties, give me one of the big boys every year.

I, too, prefer no pasties.

Edit: whoops. How about these pasties?

Michigan State schedules Alabama, West Virginia; U-M will play UMass
Detroit News staff
MSU to play W. Va., 'Bama
Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis announced Monday the Spartans have signed contracts for home-and-home football series with West Virginia (2014-15) and Alabama (2016-17). MSU will begin each series on the road, with a rematch at Spartan Stadium the following season.
In addition, Hollis announced MSU has signed a letter-of-intent to extend its series with Notre Dame through the 2025 season, with two-year breaks in 2014-15 and 2020-21.
Threet is headed to Arizona State
Former Michigan quarterback Steven Threet has found what he calls a better "fit" football-wise at Arizona State.
Why the Sun Devils?
"Two reasons, coaching staff and offensive style, and those are the reasons I left (Michigan), and those are the first things I was looking for, football-related wise," Threet, a more traditional drop-back passer, said Monday night during a telephone interview.
Threet, a 6-foot-6, 230-pound native of Adrian, Mich., played in 10 games last season as a redshirt freshman, including the eight starts and threw for 1,105 yards and nine touchdowns.
U-M's 2010 home opener vs. UMass?
Massachusetts might be the first opponent for Michigan in its renovated stadium in 2010.
The paper reported U-M approached Massachusetts about the 2010 season opener, which would be the first game after renovations -- including luxury suites -- were complete. UMass is a Division I-AA program.
