2009 TSUN arguments, shenanigans (not football)

on the recruiting note

of the top 10 prospects from the state of Michigan the past 2 seasons (according to Rivals)

1 5* 16 4* 3 3*

good ole Rich Rod has managed to only land land 3/20 (09 5* DT Will Campbell, 09 4* WR Cameron Gordon, 10 4* QB Devin Gardiner)

12/20 have gone to Michigan State

2/20 have gone to State Penn

1/20 has gone to Ohio State

1/20 has gone to Iowa

1/20 has gone to Oregon

pretty solid talent instate

but instead Rich Rod ventures for out of state reaches?

Sparty certainly isnt complaining

I see what you are saying, but where has it gotten Sparty? There is not alot of talent instate (though 2012 should be really good) and I agree there is no excuse for not landing the top guys, but im not going to complain when over half of those kids who went to MSU did not have an offer from Michigan.

Uh, MSU spanked you guys the past two seasons. If you're going to talk trash about a rival, especially when you're implying that your team's inexplicably crazy recruiting strategy that has turned said team into a pile of 160 lb WRs with no discernible interest in (or talent for) playing defense has not resulted in said rival stockpiling talent, perhaps you should first avoid losing to them by an average of 10 points in the past two games against them.

Do you guys seriously not sense that Sparty is breathing down your necks? It would be one thing if scUM were recruiting well nationally, but they're not. They're not recruiting well anywhere. Even if Sparty were only recruiting well in Michigan (which they are), that would still be better than what RR has been doing. Given the fact that, other than ND, your rivals have been plowing the rotten corpse of Michigan football for the better part of 3 years, one would expect at least some concern on your part.

I guess life is easier with your head in the sand.

Tater's got to be careful with that staph infection, he could lose all that weight that Barwis and his revolutionary strength and conditioning program put on him last year :slappy:

That was a typo. It was supposed to be "staff". Barwis *IS* the infection!!!1!11!

2011 ATH Delonte Hollowell has committed to Michigan.

  • 5'8" 164 lbs
  • 4.66 40 yd (laser timed @ San Antonio combine)
  • Offers: Michigan & Central Michigan
Is it just me or do those numbers portray an athlete that is exceptionally small and slow for his size?

I'm glad to see it. This will make the offseason reports a LOT more interesting (particularly with the QBForce.com updates), and make the UM spring game another intriguing contest.

Keep it up and you'll end up in the Forcier Hall of Shame, winslow.

If you have seen any of my posts around here regarding Michigan you would know im not a blind faith supporter, I have many concerns about our head coach and his program (with the abundance of wr's on the roster being one). As for Sparty breathing down our necks... they have definitely upgraded their talent, but I don't feel they are breathing down our necks as far as surpassing Michigan in football.

For all of MSU's progress Scout team rankings last year were UM #14, MSU #37. So far this year it is UM #10 and MSU #25.

I would argue that UM should not be ranked so highly because of the mix of players they are recruiting, but there is still a sizable gap between the two schools.

Then again, if you roll back to the Carr era UM was bringing in legitimate top 10 classes and MSU was in the 40's and 50's.

2008: Michigan State was 9-4 and played in a bowl game, while Michigan was 3-9 and failed to make a bowl game, and Michigan State beat Michigan 35-21.
2009: Michigan State was 6-7 and played in a bowl game, while Michigan was 5-7 and failed to make a bowl game, and Michigan State beat Michigan 26-20.

They've had a better record than you in both the last two seasons, played in a bowl those two years while you didn't, and have beaten you those two seasons, while scooping up virtually all of the in-state recruiting talent. I'd say that qualifies for "breathing down your necks" in football.

Michigan's recuiting ranking is a fucking joke. #10 in the entire country? With a class full of undersized slot-dots? I guess we could fill our class with a bunch of 5'8", 170lb low-end 4-stars to boost our rankings, but thankfully Tressel isn't...
