2009 TSUN arguments, shenanigans (not football)

"So, before you write your next critical comment on Rich Rod and on a player, you might want to think about who will be reading it. Why in the world would a parent want to send their kid to a school where the coach and players are getting ripped every day by hundeds of online fans. Why would a parent want to send a kid to a program where half the fans want the coach fired; where there is continual discussion about universty in-fighting. Those of you who are continually writing these scathing comments are hurting recruiting and the UM football program!"

This makes me so happy to read. Wait a min it happens here too.:(

njuries: Brandon Minor's ankle injury is ongoing, and now he has a bruised shoulder as well. Junior Hemingway has a back bruise and was limited against Purdue. Martavious Odoms is still day-to-day, he hasn't progressed that well. Perry Dorrestein is getting better. Carlos was limited against Purdue because he missed the week of practice with tendinitis.

The defense plays well in practice, but seems to be clueless in games.
How long is he going to use this deflection technique?
The offense didn't seem to be that different from first to second half. Purdue made a couple adjustments, and there were some execution errors, but other than that it wasn't bad. The second half collapses of late have been a result of just needing to play better. There isn't a lot of time at halftime to attribute the difference to "halftime adjustments." The team needs to mature mentally and show resiliency. They should be mentally mature enough at this point in the season. Rich was more disappointed with the resiliency against Illinios than he was this week.
There are only 70 or 71 recruited scholarship players on the roster this year. It will take 2-3 recruiting classes to get the numbers up, and have the ability to let younger guys wait their turn. Players like Justin Turner and Thomas Gordon will be good players in the future.

Feels pretty healthy. His shoulder should be fine. The knee injury was just a slight twist, he'll wear a sleeve but no brace over it for the rest of the season. He expected to get a little banged up during the season, especially because his body isn't fully developed yet.
The second half letdowns have been partially because the team comes out flat. There's no real explanation for it, but it's visible on film. They are pumped at the start of the game, but the leaders need to remind everyone to do the same for the second half.
The defense is playing well, except for a couple critical mistakes. The offense hasn't helped at times, putting them in bad situations with turnovers. Having a new defensive coordinator makes it hard for them to achieve consistency.
He certainly has that company line down pat.
Tate feels he's been making too many freshman mistakes. He can't do that and expect the team to still win. The game has finally started slowing down for him (he noticed it against Illinois).

The second half struggles shouldn't be an indication that the defense isn't good. Sometimes people are just pressing too hard to make things happen. He's not sure if the deficiencies are mental or physical. Sometimes, when the opposing offense has success, it feels like the defense didn't prepare well, even though Troy knows that's not the case. they just need to focus and get it done.
Greg Robinson is a calm coach, and he's been successful in a bunch of places. Troy feels like last year's defense was bad because the schemes simply weren't working. This year, it's a good defense with too many execution errors at times.
With a young defense, Obi Ezeh and Donovan Warren are the players who will get on guys when they make a mistake. Warren is a very passionate player, though it usually isn't displayed like it was on Saturday unless things are going very well or very poorly.
Ezeh is going to hound someone else for making mistakes? Really?
Going to a bowl would be an accomplishment for this team. If they don't go to a bowl, they can't be too disappointed with their progress, because they've still improved the record from last year. Goal #1 is to beat Ohio State, and they want to beat Wisconsin as well. Troy can't wait to get into the atmosphere of Camp Randall and play.
wow.

What's really amazing is that there are probably more Ohio State fans who want to fire Jim Tressel (91-21, .813 winning percentage, 5 Big Ten titles, one national championship) than there are Michigan fans who want to fire Rich Rodriguez (8-14, .364 winning percentage, no titles of any kind whatsoever). I guess that employing an allegedly high-powered offense with lots of 4.3 slot dots is enough to keep the attention-deficit XBox crowd happy.

But a lot of broken records!

Regarding the plea from the parent of the TSUN player, asking posters to remember that negative posts hurt recruiting.

I see what you mean. TSUN fans should hide the truth about the program because you believed in that nice young man from West Virginia and, what the hey, there won't be any good recruits coming if the truth keeps being spoken. Hide it, and there's a chance that a mistake made can be overwritten. I see that Rich Rod says he needs just 3 or 4 more recruiting classes to get it right. No one can say that you didn't step up to help him out of the goodness of your heart. It was the right thing to do.

I'm a parent. I read your post repeatedly. Over and over. Searching deeply within myself for the words to express what I felt. He is your boy. The one who worked so hard to make the grade. The one who you carted across the countryside for football games as he grew up. Oh, the excitement you felt the day that he got that call from Rich Rod himself! The pride. Michigan! Bo Schembechler's Michigan! You boy was going to TSUN to play in front of more than 100,000 fans!

As a parent, I must admit that I cannot find the words to express what I feel after reading those words so many times. So, here's a link to express in sound and images, what I cannot express in my own words:

The parent quoted previously also sent this to RR:

As the parent of a current UM player and 9 months out of the recruiting process, it is important for you and your fellow coaches to understand that recruits and their parents have televisions and subscribe to newspapers. These are some of the easiest ways for a recruit to see what is going on in a football program.

So, before you coach your next game, you might want to think about who will be watching it. Why in the world would a parent want to send their kid to a school where the team is getting ripped every game? Why would a parent want to send a kid to a program where the coach should be fired; where there is continual dissension, transfers, underachievement and in-fighting. Those of you who are coaching these kids are hurting recruiting and the UM football program!

Please consider the next time you want to coach a game that other players and coaches are working harder than you and Barwis can imagine. It is great for intelligent coaches to give insights that talk about strategy, what is working and what is not. However, what you are doing will do nothing but destroy this program.
